  1. Dave, the Marin hardtails at 99 Bikes are a good deal.
  2. Hey Kenneth, keen for a beer and Northshore makes it easy. Thursday is good for me. Will also ride this weekend, probably out at Woodhill so if you are keen you are welcome to join. Riverhead gets a bit messy after the rains and not worth it unless you like gravel roads.
  3. I havent looked at this thread in a while but thought its maybe time we got together for another drink. Looks like there are a few of us on the shore side so can maybe stay local?? Or maybe a ride sometime ?? Let me know if anyone is keen for either, but I do think an intervention is necessary for Dave and all this ebike talk. (Haha, my wife has an ebike and loves it)
  4. Going on price alone I have always ended up at Evo for 3 of our bikes. I have used them on a warranty with no issues. Also had great service from Mount Eden Cycles for 2 bikes, but they are limited to Specialized and Pivot. Have also used Cyco as they are huge supporters of the Auckland School Series. Think they are mostly Trek though. 99 bikes has really good pricing, but Ive never bought from them
  5. Went to Christchurch this weekend to take my daughter to the XC Nationals. It was an awesome event, brilliant course at Crocodile MTB Park. Event planners gave such carful consideration to spectators, lots of proper track crossings, lots of viewpoints and you could see lots of track from a single point. Brilliant event - and my daughter got 5th in her 1st year in U19 (currently 16). Anton Cooper commented in his post race interview that its the first time hes raced in front of a crowd in a year - only for us to return to Auckland Level 3. I think the park is part of Christchurch Adventure Park, but could be wrong! Wish I had my bike there, but hopefully can go back one of these days. Also took a quick trip to Akoroa which was amazing.
  6. House prices are going nuts, both my neighbours have sold within the last 3 months. If their prices are anything to go by I am happy I bought when I did, which was only 2,5 years ago!
  7. Hi Dave, Patches and anyone else, I am riding at Riverhead, WCRC side, from about 5,30 tonight and a few beers at Hallertau after. If you are keen to join let me know and I will look out for you.
  8. I had also thought it was Thursday, which works better for me. But either is good. Looks like rain will get in the way of my Wednesday evening ride at Riverhead anyway.
  9. Good idea, I dont remember what any of you like like from the ride we did in Woodhill ages ago. Viaduct suits me, work in town. Takapuna would also work, because I live on the shore....obviously.
  10. Its an upside down catfish, synodontis zambezensis. we called the waga waga fish because of the noise they make when you catch them, also called korokoro, also probably because of the sound they make. Their dorsal fin is dangerous, have had a few stuck in my hand.
  11. Haha, also from Bullies, dont tell me you also went to Hillside Junior. When this group rode at Woodhill I never managed to put names to faces so dont know who I met when we rode. Maybe we should have another ride out there some time, looks like a few of us are on North shore.
  12. I live on the shore and Riverhead is really the only option and less so now in winter as the trails get too muddy. Woodhill is a bit of a mission. My daughter trains around Torbay and uses the Long Bay reserve track. Would be good if the university trails were still available. Give me a shout if you want to ride with someone, we generally go out every weekend. Riverhead is still ok if you just stick to the roads.
  13. Great ride at the Auckland Enduro Series #3 in Glenbervie Forest, Whangerei. Awesome trails out that way and really well run event. Brilliant weekend away with the kids, highly recommended.
  14. If anyone here lives in Auckland with intermediate/high school going kids, the Auckland Schools XCO Series kicked off yesterday at Riverhead, It was an awesome event, even met another Saffa whose son used to race in the Spur Series in KZN. Next event is in Hunua. All the details will be on the Auckland School Mountain Biking FB page.
  15. Wayne, we have done it. For my daughters, because she is under 16, you dont have to go to Wellington. Posted everything to them and got her passport in about 6 months. They were helpful over the phone and with responses to email. My son is 17 so had to book an appointment (you cant just arrive) got his ID after about 6 months, still waiting for his passport.
  16. Hey 2bliss My Dad showed me this. and I will pray for Karmi. I was born prem 14 years ago in Cape Town and weighed 780g and gave my parents a very hard time just like Karmi. Us prems are real fighters so I know she will be ok. I gave my parents all sorts of scares and made them grey. i was in ICU for 3 months and i was deaf, but have cochlear implants now. I was SA MTB champ in 2014 and now live in New Zealand and just came 3rd in Auckland school series so prems go on to do great things. Sending hugs to Karmi from one prem to another. Emma
  17. Our bikes came over in our container, I cleaned them myself - make sure you get rid of any trace of mud from everywhere. They were inspected on arrival, but no issues. In fact I cleaned everything myself and we had no issues. They want to check bicycles, camping stuff, etc.
  18. Has anyone ridden at Hunua Ranges? Whats it like, my kids Josh and Em who rode with us at Woodhill are racing in the school series this weekend. The directions to get there make it sound like its really muddy?
  19. Cool. Will be good to meet up tomorrow, my wife still undecided. White CRV, son on a Cannondale, me Giant, daughter Volcan. My name is Stuart
  20. Hi. Family and I have been in Auckland from KZN 1year and not too much riding done to date. Can anyone join in the ride at Woodhill, like I said not very fit right now!
