  1. Tx everyone for the advice. The plan is to REALLY go slow. I can't do buses, so won't run with a bus from the start. The plan is to do the 42km in 6m50s pace, leaving enough time to walk Constantia and enjoy the hurt in the last 14km. Just a pity the two races are so close to each other.
  2. OMTOM no1 coming up for me. Will be treating it as an LSD for IMSA in 2 weeks time. I am way more scared of OMTOM's 56km. Maybe because the furthest I have ever ran is only 42.2km?
  3. I'm doing my first Ultra this year, OMTOM. Only a few weeks out and already gasping for air. Clinging onto confidence from Saturday's "flat" Diamond marathon and reading up everything about OMTOM and how to pace oneself.
  4. it is the small things... I commend you for finishing! I remember my first real marathon, last year at Kaapsehoop (my first real marathon). Thought that not doing a 180km ride before hand will make it enjoyable. It was not the case. Was quite dark and IN the hurt locker from km 28. Stomach cramps etc. I adjusted my training after Kaapsehoop, hoping that my next real marathon will be great or I pack it in. And it was much better this Saturday. The longer LSD's that I did in December helped a lot (a 28km and 30km and no sugars, only water). I was ready for the pain this time, which only visited me at km 38. All the best training for your next one, the LSD's pays off BIG TIME. It gets better. And faster.

  6. Tx for the advice, think ITB injury of 2years ago plays tricks on my mind. It all went well today, started out easy and maintained it for 38km before the grind started. Very happy with my LSD marathon
  7. I need some advice from the experienced runners please? I have bagged 2x IMSA marathons, which in my mind doesn't count as it was 5h40 walks, and 1x real marathon (Kaapsehoop). As part of my prep for IMSA and OMTOM this year, I want to do the flat Diamnd marathon tomorrow. Quite looking forward to this one After a 5hr bike last weekend followed by a 2hr 21k at deloittes, I feel a little bruised with some niggles in the lower legs, but only when I run. Tiredness is gone at least. Average mileage is about 40k -45k per week. Am I chickening out if I don't do the 42k tomorrow, or should I just go for it and bag another sub 5hr run. Would appreciate some advice from you guys.
  8. It sounds harsh...Speaking to the organizers, the lady told me I don't have to worry, "everyone gets a medal here, even if it takes longer than 5hrs" THAT is the Kimberley/Northern Cape hospitality I grew up in! Gotta lovit!
  9. Side line... Anybody here doing the Diamond Marathon on Saturday? Going to see my folks in KBY and looking at doing an EASY 5hr to get some hours on the legs. Should be a flat race?
  10. Taking my hat off to you. Well done!
  11. I agree with Kinvaras - I LOVED mine, but they are not cushioned to last more than 400km-500km. Afterwards I even heard that they have a weight limit You might struggle to get easy front foot running with an 8mm drop. However, I am runnng with a 8-ish drop on my Brooks Revenna and still try to do as much front foot running as possible (or Triathlete Pony Galloping as my wife calls it). Sure fits my pocket better only replacing after 1200km! $/km counts for something, especially if you see the thick heavy shoes of old, lasting 1500km plus.
  12. Tx for the feedback! I will also be parking at Bidon. Looking forward to see some of you out there - haven't rode there in 4 years so a few loops won't be that boring then Honk if you see a slow turtle on an Argon
  13. So Deloittes is on Sunday, therefor I need to do my 5hr ride on Saturday. I will feel a lot safer doing my long ride in the Cradle on Saturday in stead of the usual Rayton/Bronkhorstpruit route. Bronkhorstpruit Saturday traffic is way more dangerous (my opinion). But I heard that Berg n Dal is on this Saturday? As far as I know, they will be racing through the Cradle? Do they close the roads, or can we still park and ride our own thing at the Cradle whilst the race is on? 5hrs in the cradle...that sound like ALOT of laps. Haven't rode their since 2015.
  14. I did the 21k and l loved it. Club members finishing the 42km said it was real tough...
  15. This is my all time favorite... whenever I go on a run and it just "clicks", i feel like this photo.
  16. Wifey had bad luck with 2 pairs of Nimbus (blisters etc). Since she started with the Revennas she hasn't had a problem. I have never had an issue with shoes though, if it is a size 13 it will work As long as it is Neutral and not stabilising. I don't know anything about the Ghost, so will ask Riaan when I see him at Randburg Runner. I trust in Riaan's advice, we are both the same size and we have suffered together on a few laps at IMSA.
  17. Tx everyone Mmm, me thinks me and the Mrs need to go and pay Riaan a visit then for a new pair of Revennas each. Best shoe we have ever had, except for the hole on top of the front toe... Jou beurt is jou beurt.
  18. age old question most likely....BUT How long do you keep you guys keep your shoes? My Brooks Revenna is now 1200km. The sole wear pattern is EXCELLENT and only minor scuffs on the upper, no collpsed support at all. Just doesn't feel right to replace yet. Not having show related niggles either. Is 1200km to much?
  19. you are not alone... 2018 started with a super taper 56km for January, which included 70.3.. 22km for Feb so far, need to get ready for OMTOM
  20. I still cannot believe this happened at 18:00. I stay 300m from there and that is my 3x a week route that i do at 5:00. This morning, running in Wekker, I passed more than 10 joggers, almost half of them female as well. If we cannot run their, where can we run then? I hope this was just an isolated incident. Hope he his back on his feet and running in the area in no time at all! I'm so paranoid now, buying myself pepper spray this weekend - and i'm 6ft3, should not be afraid of anything!
