  1. It the first time that you reply in a decent manor so I'll reply in kind which would have been my initial response if you'd replied differently in the first place. I remember Thundercats back form the 80's (I'm from the 70's), unfortunately I don't recall the characters so sorry for mixing up your avatar with a completely different bunch of characters. I don't have problems with people having different opinions to mine, I DO however have a problem with the way people put their thoughts forward and use similar terms such as "this is the way it is so accept it". To these types of comments I slowly put surely extend my middle finger and tell you to go screw yourself, and why would I react like this you may ask? Simple, I was born free and with a mind of my own. I have the ability to question what's around me and I chose to do so at my own will, it's your problem if you don't like the way I think and I couldn't care less. It's also sad that you keep on hovering over this topic and clicking on the embedded url to view the latest updates and to reply whenever it suits you. Great I say, at least the so called troll has captured your interest and you simply cannot resist but to translate your though into words and reply to a thread that you're not really interested in... I've been visiting TH for a while now so don't be fooled by the registration date of my account nor by the number of posts. I'm no newbie to the Wonderful Wide Web nor dealing with guys like you which will always exist on all public platforms. I'll even tell you more, I'm probably registered on more than 30 different forums which cover my personal interests (F1, coding, mtb, soccer etc..) and most of the times it's SA forums where you'll find the largest number of idiots. There's just something about a large percentage of white South African males that's wrong, it's like you get beat up at home by your wives then come to an online forum and act all macho, is this suppose to make you feel better? You expect me to accept your comment "this is the hub, that's not going to happen, welcome" as if you were the hub and the hub cannot exist without you? Your an imbecile if you're that small minded. To think that you would even consider thinking this way just because you're registered on a public forum longer than someone else that you somehow have more rights to be here that what I do, are you kidding me? There's only one time in my life when that philosophy applied and that was in the army, not here. This vessel has enough firing power for you, the canons are ready and you will be fired upon without hesitation. Move along if you don't want to participate in this thread and let it die in peace, like all threads do. BTW, my sword is green because that's the colour of "The Force"
  2. But I've got a special sword, it's green and will slice through Dragon Ball characters like a hot knife through butter
  3. Your attempt to accomplish whatever it is that you think you're accomplishing is pitiful to say the least. To bring up the nick of someone that is not part of this discussion in an attempt to try and get peepz on your side or to simply back you up shows only how incapable you are of having an intelligent conversation. In case you haven't noticed, I'm open to dialogue with anyone that has a brain instead of a peanut. I feel sorry for you, I really do but as we all know, there's a time in our lives when we need to suck it up and take it like a man. In other words, don't try and be smart ass with me and leave comments to try and get people to back you up, in a sneaky or should I say snaky way. Are you a boy who needs his buddies to agree with him or a man that's able to say what he thinks directly at the person that he is speaking to/about? Is it support that you require, will that make you feel better? And WTF is this "watch this space" all about? Don't tell me there s PPC or CPC campaign going on here that I'm unaware of and that you're getting returns on? Rofl... , ok seriously now...cough cough..., do you want to carry on playing this game because trust me, there's plenty rounds left in these chambers
  4. Well said and I agree that if it's law that there must be a 1.5mt safe distance between the vehicle and the cyclist AND that it's properly enforced by law enforcers, then I'd definitely feel safer riding on the left. There's no doubt about that and I assure you that I'm not the only one that feels this way. Hasn't this been passed in CT? I'm sure that I read somewhere that it was?
  5. I said "riding on the right" and NOT "drive your car on the right hand side.." as you have incorrectly pointed out, there's an obvious difference.. :whistling:
  6. Why, are your roads any different? Are the drivers in your town any different than the rest of the drivers in SA? Do your drivers respect cyclist and give them enough space and/or never knock cyclists down from behind? I've seen the roads in your town, looks like I would have no problem riding on one side or the other on certain roads.. https://maps.google....,320.03,,0,-1.4
  7. You'd be breaking an important traffic law as you're suppose to drive your vehicle at a speed that allows you to stop in time if situation presents itself whereas you may hit someone. What if the same happened but instead of a cyclist there was a youngster on his skateboard or a dog running out of the yard or a child running into the road to fetch his ball. These are all possible scenarios and as the driver, you need to anticipate and stop your vehicle in time to avoid the accident all together. But yes, you are also right in the scenario you've put forward but this may not be the case in other scenarios. The 2nd part of your post is spot on. The problem is that the majority of drivers in SA do not respect a cyclist on the road and I'm sure that there's not a single cyclist that has once felt that a car/taxi/truck passed way to close for comfort and this is what worries me.
  8. Ok cupcake, I'll hold onto my pats while you hold onto your panties Now tell me where you live so that I can come a cause chaos on your neighborly roads by riding on the right
  9. If you'd bother to have read what I've said some pages back as well as my previous answer, you would have known by now that we are not road riders. Man I can't continue to repeat this, you're either going to get it first time or I'll need to start drawing pictures for you to understand. And you can stick the below comment right up the closest orifice. Do you think you're any better than folks from KZN? "It is truly a good thing you are in KZN, cause that way I dont have to deal with you making the roads any less safe than they already are.."
  10. If I felt unsafe in a similar scenario, you can bet that I wouldn't hesitate in moving over to the right. As I've already mentioned which seems to be over looked is that we ride mtb and not road bikes and only occasionally do we need to go onto the road or cross it to continue our ride (mainly on trails). We're not constantly on the road so cyclist here that do road riding will obviously think differently as they're always on the road, their mind set is completely different to mine as I simply want to get on and off the road as quickly and as safely as possible. At the speeds that we do (on the road), it's almost impossible to ride into another cyclist that's riding on his left, reason being that we're not riding where there's tight bends without visibility and we're riding as low speeds. In our case, this issue does not apply as we're not riding at the speeds that road riders ride their bikes, there's more than enough line of sight to see who/what's coming in our direction and road riders don't even ride on the same roads as we do.
  11. You can yabber all you want, the fact remains that you refuse to discuss the probable scenarios that I put forward as these obviously go in my favour. Don't be so offended and say that I sound like a 5year old when in fact your reaction is one of a child. It's good manners to reply to a question with an answer and not to reply with another question. You obviously did that to avoid having to discuss my scenarios all together, you have miserably failed!
  12. Agreed, it all depends on the circumstances and as cyclists we need to judge each scenario accordingly.
  13. If you started swearing then you'd only prove that you're incapable of debating the topic. Of course I want a reaction, an intelligent one and not some random cursing
  14. And I forgot to mention, you can't ride where you deem it safe to ride. You HAVE TO ride with the traffic flow or haven't you heard it's illegal to ride on the right?
  15. Yeah it sucks when things don't go your way now doesn't it?
  16. Not much time of space to do much, at least for the rider/s out in front but maybe other riders that are behind will have a better chance or reacting. And how about this scenario where there's more than enough space to move out of the danger line? http://onlinepubs.trb.org/onlinepubs/archive/conferences/2011/10LVR/Rural_Road.jpg
  17. No need to repeat and/or clarify, I understood you first time. Regardless of the "conditions", you're still prepared to break the law and move your ass over to the right because there's a drop of 200mt (dangerous maybe?), so riding against traffic where it's safer is ok when the conditions suit you?! You shouldn't have posted anything in the first place cause you're shooting yourself in the foot..
  18. So you'll ride on the right because it's safer, regardless is being illegal as others have already pointed out?
  19. You would know now wouldn't you, native language maybe?
  20. Seriously, are you that stupid? It's an example of the "odds" previously discussed and was rightfully used as an example, no one is debating if the video is real or not so stop taking things so literally.
  21. If you want to use the term troll or trolling then you should use these terms when applicable. The term is generally used when someone "trolls" a thread with the intention of insulting others or disrupting the thread. In-case you haven't noticed, I started the thread (so I can't be trolling now can I..) and members that have posted in this thread (such as yourself) are in fact the trolls as you're disrupting the thread, insulting others and quite frankly, making no contribution whatsoever.
  22. I don't mind replying to your question but why don't you do the same and reply to mine first? I've put different scenarios out there which all have read yet fail to post a reply specific to it which makes me believe that the obvious answer would be favorable to riding against the traffic flow. Now you take my question ans answer it with your own question and expect a reply in my defense, I don't think so. I will however gladly reply when the same courtesy is received.
  23. I'd be (and as I said) riding in front and my family would be behind me, not the other way round. I'm not arguing with facts and neither with the legal side of things (I thought this had been established by now). I'm referring to (and forget legalities) if I or my family/friends have a better chance of avoiding being ridden over by a vehicle by riding against or with the traffic flow. Again and I reiterate, forget legalities as that's not in question. Let me throw this at you from a different angle. Three riders (mom/dad/child) are riding with the traffic flow and some drunk driver comes and hits them from behind, do you think that only one, two or possibly all three riders will be hit by the vehicle? Most families ride closely to one another and the way I see it, there's a higher chance of all three family members suffering the same outcome. Now the same scenario except that this family is now riding against the traffic flow and of course, the same driver comes along. Now I don't know about most people by I for one have a defensive style of driving, I'm constantly looking and anticipating what other drivers are doing and I apply the same technique to when I ride my bike on the road, I go defensive. So I'll definitely be on the look out and am likely going to be ready to have some sort of reaction if I have the slightest feeling that "***" is heading my way and I honestly believe that anyone that's behind me will also have a better chance of reacting. Nothing is perfect and driving against traffic would be no exception to the rule. It's obvious that there's a higher chance of the accident being fatal from a head on collision and maybe there's actually more fatalities (percentage wise) with cyclists that ride against traffic, I don't.. What I do know is that I hate of not having some sort of control to at least try and prevent getting tangled in the first place.
  24. Ok I'll give this one last try, I honestly will and without any form of sarcasm.. People will have different opinions and trust me, I'm one for respecting what others feel is the right choice for them but then again, my opinion (regardless of being right or wrong) should be respected and not mocked with comments that my thread received from the word go. Would it have been so difficult to simply reply (as some did) why they disagreed and why they think that option A or B is the one to go with, is it really that difficult to have a decent online conversation these days without someone having to start off by insulting someone else? @Skylark; I've worked for myself most of my life so no, my boss is definitely not on my back and you'll need to Google Padesse if you want to find out what it means @AfdElite; Dude, you need to relax and chill regardless of how many post you've made or active threads you're participating in, you can't insult people by calling them names. @cpt armpies mayhem; Again dude, you can either pick a fight with me and expect a response or chill, speak your mind and contribute to the thread, or not.
