  1. Not a rugby player, weight about 80kg not alot of fat! 12 - 27 sounds like an good idea!
  2. Well i am about 80 kgs weight plateau at this levels for the past three years. I am going to change gym program to include explosive power excersizes after the wedding. Staying on the west rand thus I do my fair share of climbing do not know the total climbing as I have a normal speedo and normal polar. All my routes that I do use for training has quite a few climbs. Personally I think I need a stiffer frame to better utilize my power as I think my frame is a little bit to flexable. As they always say the correct equipment make a job so much easier. PLEASE KEEP THE ADVICE COMMING! FYI BMI is about 10 - 12 on the virgin active maschines (know you can actually trust those maschines)
  3. I am looking to get a new bike but need some advice on what to look for. At the moment I have a 54 cm carbon bike but my climbing ability is just not there Tried everything, strong enough to give pace at front on the bunch on uphill drags flats etc, but as soon as I need to go up a hill I fall off At the moment what people are advizing is that I get a smaller frame i.e. 52 cm and compact cranks. I am 174 cm in lenght. What do they mean with compact cranks? Must I get smaller crank arms say 172.5 mm on a 53,39 chain ring or get smaller chain rings 50,34 with the 175mm crank arms? What type of bike must I look for or which are the bikes which is known to be good climbing bikes. I read in reviews that say the cannondale super six is an excellent climbing bike due to it very stiff frame. Then on the other hand should a bike with a stiff frame from any other make do the same thing.......... Any help would be appreciated Budget will depend on what is left after the wedding and the honeymoon! Thank you
  4. Just like to thank the marshalls for trying to contend with the big bunch that formed. Note organizers, take what has worked in previous races and apply to yours. The previous races the A bunch had a full blue light escort ( We did not get winnie's driver because he stops for nobody ) Worked excellent with the blue light car. As for the start. The tandems should have been seperated there and then. I promise you the A bunch riders would not have moaned about starting three minutes later. What the race organizers ( i think they dont know ) do not understand that there is some serious racing in the A bunch. We or some of the guys can compete with cat 2 but chose not to because they still want to enjoy the racing. Maybe start the A bunch bit up the times i.e. before the C4 or even the C3's. But as for general consensus on the form it was hard, fast and damm right dangerous with all the meddling of the slower riders into the big bunches. Food for thought that the racing tandems should start behind Cat 1 riders! Those wondering how the tandems influenced the A bunch, two rider break away with about 30km with a tandem. Bunch could not reel them in, they helped a bit on the drags up and the tandem motered away on the flats and down hill pulling them along. Tandems sat up and let the singles do most of the work to the end. At the end the gap was about a minute between the bunch sprint and the over all winners.
  5. .............................BLOODY AGENTS!!!!!
  6. Is there anyone that can actually give a breakdown of the expenses of a race??
  7. Traffic officer are included into the metro bill, WHAT ROAD CLOSURES!!!!!! Still have to compete with traffic. Venues get sponsered. Still then where and what does the sponsers contribute to the race.????????? Administration fee? not talking about the 94.7 or cape argus here Refershments sponsered so no expenses there. Will conceive if forgot about the medical, fencing and ablution. That is not more than 30 000. If you pay R 40 000 for sound hire you mustbe stupid! Can hold a consert with that amount of sound! Just still feels that we are being explioted for doing something we love, where I know this comparison has been made alot, the running mainiacs get off paying much less and getting alot more! The maths does not make sense even common sense is missing the picture when it comes to cycling event organization? Just food for thought
  8. Hi, I would like to know where does all the money go that race organizers get from all the entry fees? Lets take ave price for race entry this year has been R 190. They get say about 5000 entries per big race i.e. races classified as classic with prize money of R 50 000 or higher. 5000 x 190 = 950 000 Prize money 70 000 Advertizing 30 000 (pamplets, online entries etc) Marshalls 30 000 Medals 20 000 Metro officers 120 000 PPA @ R2 per rider 10 000 (what needs to be paid to CSA) Race commisioners 10 000 Race tec 50 000 ( to lay timing mats and look at a computer screen) So that leaves about R 610 000 Venues are normally sponsered as they get revenue from cyclist spending money the venue and from advertizing. Refresments at the end is also normally sponsered Races are normally organized by NPO's in conjunction with cycling clubs. So let allocate say R 160 000 to them for their effort. So then WHAT HAPPENS TO THE REST OF THE R 450 000? Please if someone can shed some light on the issue it would be appreciated. The totals that I use where from various sources so do not know how accurate they are but still if someone can enlighten the normal plonkers who fork out their money for a race and then get nothing in return it would be appreciated! And where have all the goody bags gone............ Thanks
  9. 103 km, Potholes galore! They can atleast use their profit from this year to fix up the race route. If that is done and they get their distance right, It shall be a excellent race. Bad organization with refreshments after race!

    Brakes!

Hi, I recently got myself a set of 50mm carbon clinchers. I found out to my dismay that normal brake pads dont work on carbon wheels. I have a set of brake pads for the wheels that I got with the purchase. Is the a way to alternate between the two brake pad types with having to remove the pad from it housing and slot the other in everytime that I change the wheels. Buying a second bike is unforunately not an option, PLEASE HELP WITH ADVICE! Thanks

  18. With the pervious chain and cassette it was working perfect

  20. I recently serviced my bike and replaced the chain and cassette. The chain keeps on slipping only on the 12 gear of the cassette. I have already had my bike back x3 so that they can "fix" the slipping chain! Can it be that the cassette is defective or that the chain is defective? OR Just poor service on the part of the bike shop? Please help with advice!
