  1. Thanks for the replies, I suspected as much. That Chain Tamer looks good for this purpose.
  2. Good Day Guys, I have been running a 9 speed set of Shimano Flight Deck STi on my monster cross bike for some time. I have this paired to a SLX long cage 9 speed derailleur and 9 speed wide range cassette (11-40). This set up has been working fine. However, I do get quite a bit of chain drop especially on grassy tracks and corrugation roads ( I am running a narrow wide single front blade). So my question is, I have a spare clutched 10 speed XTR derailleur, would I be able to run this with the 9 speed STi, are the pull ratios compatible? Thanks.
  3. Hey Guys, I did briefly go through what has been posted, but did not notice if it had been asked and addressed: With the old classifieds, there was filtering by type of mountain bike, e.g. downhill, dirt jump single speed and so forth on both frames and complete bikes. I cant seem to find same type of filtering, only hardtail or full suspension. Am I being daft or has this gone? Otherwise the new look and feel is nice. Thanks in advance.
  4. Good Day All Thanks to SAPS, this bike has been recovered.
  5. Holy Rail is the way to go. Below is size XL, fits two bottles with no problems, I also understand that different bottles such as the CamelBak have a better physical size for the volume of liquid and fit with greater clearances on the frame. The nice thing with the rail system is you can mix and match, the second bottle can be replaced with the bag, depending on what and where you are riding. Or if you don't need a second bottle pop your spares into one of those spares tubes that fit in the cage.
  6. There is a group ride from Coimbra, leaving the shop at 16:30 on wednesdays, through the valley and back to the shop. Route is more of a technical nature.(I realize this is a dat before your arrival - more for FYI). They also are starting up their out ride to the railway bridge on thursday evenings, perhaps pop into the shop and chat to Ewan and his team. They meet up at butterfield road pub, head out to the Van Staadens railway bridge and back again. Route is mostly gravel/district roads. FatTracks MTB club also have group rides on a Wednesday evening leaving from the FatTrack contains just off the William Moffet road. Start at 17:30. (Again just FYI) The valley is relatively safe, there have been no major incidents for a while, however there are a few technical lines and would recommend having a buddy in case things go south. Crazy Daves is a jump park, so not mush long distance riding there. Another option is 3 Rivers trails, at Crossways about 40km outside of PE towards CPT. Various trails to suit skill and distance. Just a word of caution, Thursday evenings there is trail running club that run in the upper part of the valley from around 17:30, they leave from Walmer Golf Course, so bare in mind the trails could be busy. Hope you have fun, the Valley is a very fun place to ride.
  7. Thanks for the heads up, but does not seem to have the right fork and dropper.
  8. Stolen: Scott Spark 960 2017 When: 23 January 2019 Where: Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape Bicycle stolen from inside a lock bakkie canopy whilst in the shops. Get further details about the incident in the Stolen Bikes section
  9. This is a very interesting spec spark. Defiantly not a 930 frame, as the 930 is where the carbon specked frames start, and this one is an alu frame. Also the decals on the down tube are slightly different. Brakes look like the Shimano MT-200 (from the reservoir) which is found on the 960/970 end of the range, as is the suspension platform. The 900 elite doesn't return and search hits either. Found this on another forum regarding the 2019 Scott line up: SCOTT SCALE 2019 LINE-UP https://imgur.com/a/i4O8I5v SCOTT SPARK RC 2019 LINE-UP https://imgur.com/a/0o7o0iT SCOTT SPARK 2019 LINE-UP https://imgur.com/a/TMxXMcb SCOTT GENIUS 2019 LINE-UP https://imgur.com/a/bnfo3gP SCOTT RANSOM 2019 LINE-UP https://imgur.com/a/G0lkwz6
  10. Hey All, So this was my solution to a budget enduro build. The bike started out life as a 2011 GT Fury I bought from the classifieds on Bike Hub, thereafter is was a case of raiding the box o spares I have in the garage and scanning the classifieds on a daily basis to find components to complete the build. Build at this point in time (changes as "new" "better" parts come up for sale) Frame 2011 GT Fury Alloy 1X10 XTR M986, with 11-40 sunrace cassette. 32 tooth narrow wide Rapide chain ring on the standard Truvativ Decent cranks. Boxxer RC (coil spring, yellow soft to be exact) Fox Van shock XT brake levers with Deore calipers (mix and match from the garage, didnt like what was on the bike) Lyne Contour dropper post All and all this build has cost around 13k. I have put just under 500km on her and whilst not the most pedal friendly bike certainly not the worst. I have made a few tweaks in those 500km to make the ride better, I got rid of the direct mount stem in favour of a 60mm stem to give a bit better reach, and lower the bar height. I have also "lowered" the crowns further down the stanchions by 20mm (180mm of stanchion between top of lower and bottom of crown in stead of the normal 200mm), I dont push the bike to the point that i will exceed 180mm of travel, but this does help lower the front end to keep the front wheel down when going uphill.
  11. Hi All, Just to pop my wall bracket solution out there.
  12. @Jurgens Smit, its so that you can fit one of their "Integrated Toptube Box" http://momsenbikes.com/accessories/itb-integrated-toptube-box/
  13. Thanks, been "reader" for a while. So the ethos behind this build was to use parts laying around the garage/friends houses and make a cheap and cheerful fun bike, so I wouldn't expect Sven Nys building one based on the components used. Frame came from a Avalanche XX1X Zero, which I had sandblasted taking inspiration from the Litespeed Ti frames. Wheels are Alexrims DP 23's (the photo still has a rear DP21... I managed to bend that properly) Groupset is Shimano flight deck STI married to a 9spd SLX derailleur, and am running a 1 X 9 set up with an 11/34 SLX cassette. The front mech you see is a "Ghetto" chain guide, but I will be putting a 34t narrow wide on when funds allow. I will still keep my "chain guide" as when things get rough its needed. Shimano Octalink BB and Crankset, not the square taper, the other one... not sure its name. Mosso M5 Fork, got it off aliexpress, so far it has done well. Giant seat post and handle bar. Momsen saddle. Brakes are Tektro mechanical, not sure of series, with Avid 160mm rotors front and rear. (Added brakes in edit)
  14. What started out as a fun build with all the parts I upgraded from my MTB, turned into one of my favorite bikes to ride. While it is not a "genuine" cross bike it still puts smile on my face when I ride it. It ticks all the boxes for me: cheap simple parts, no fancy technology, easy to clean/maintain and most of all FUN TO RIDE. But back to the topic at hand, would be great to have a gravel bike event... well several, that one might be close to me
