  1. Just to re-iterate, my previous discussion points are all personal opinions. I have no legal background to make further pronouncements on the matter other than to say that our position has always been that the road between Cap Nature and the Ladder is private. It's not about the Ladder.Anyway, I just wanted to have a little conversation to see how much the general public knows about both sides of the issue and what the general feeling is. More than that I cannot say and as the organisers rightly (or wrongly whatever the case may be) say is that the law can probably only sort this out as talking just goes around in circles. Time for me to step away from the discussion. Regards to all and good luck to riders in their quest.
  2. Just to be clear, this is not about money.
  3. I don't know the difference in scale. All I know is that on the FC website there are sponsors logos and it costs quite a bit to take part in the FC. That aside I myself sympathise with individuals who want to enjoy that type of nature as much as we do, but the actions of the organisers don't help matters.Anyway, thanks for all the chatter, but I reckon I should get some work done before the day is out!
  4. Why would the landowner need to defend his right to permission from an outside party. I'm sure the organisation makes enough money to do these things without forcing individuals with limited resources to footing the bill.Nice example in the news today: "The turnover now for the race is about R50m" - CEO, Kevin Vermaak. Sounds like nothing more than a money-making racket to me...
  5. This should sum up the entire thing (sign on the gate): [sorry, tried to get a picture of the sign on the gate in, but can't seem to get it right] Basically says: "Boplaas Gamkaskloof Boplaas Guest Cottages Private Property Access only by prior arrangement Bookings can be made through our website: www.diehel.co.za"
  6. Interesting. So by your logic a family on a farm for 300 years has more right to privacy than one of 150 years? The farms were bought at a time when nobody else wanted them (before it was "discovered" by the public and mountain biking became a craze). The place was turned into a Private Nature Reserve, but has been open to the public BY APPOINTMENT only for quite some time (as many happy visitors will tell you). People are quick to judge the landowners for not "co-operating", but fail to consider all aspects. For instance, what happens if someone gets hurt or killed on our ground? Does FC have Public Liability Insurance? How much? What is the medivac procedure? If we happen to be there at the time is it now our responsibility to now get that person to safety/help? etc. What if someone decides not to leave? Next thing we'll have squatters and land invaders... Right of admission reserved. Again these are just my personal thoughts and questions and are not the official commentary of the owners (since this is a legal matter after all).
  7. Not so much just a bunch of city yuppies. We have been on the farm for nearly 30 years now and spend a lot of time and money making the place what it is.We have been talking and the organisers know who and where to find. The issue is the same as a bunch of people coming into your backyard without permission and expecting not to get chased away. PS. my comments are based mostly on personal opinion and do not necessarily represent the views or positions of everyone involved.
  8. The place is indeed a treasure to us and everyone who visits it and we spend a lot of time and money keeping it that way. Just looking for acknowledgement of our right privacy.
