  1. +1 for the Anthem
  2. I was actually quite satisfied with the stock Giant P-XCR1 wheels. For a hub, spoke and rim assembly at 799grams they are actually not that fragile. They provided me with a years service with absolutely no trouble despite some spirited riding. The front wheel only bent when I stuck it in a ditch. Unfortunately the feedback from Dragon Sport is that they do not have that rim available, and won't have it available for another three months. The DT Swiss rim is an option, but model that compares favorably, and that is available in 28h, is the XR 400 and that is quite a bit more expensive than R400. (think +- R1500 is bought through a bike shop) I am not at the moment inclined to upgrade the entire wheel set at a cost of R5000 to R6000.
  3. I am not looking for a free replacement. I am looking to buy a new rim.
  4. I bought a Giant Anthem Advanced X 29er last year from my local bike shop (2013 model). Last weekend I bent the front wheel and according to the local wheel building specialist the rim should be replaced... no problem there. This Anthem uses the Giant P-XCR1 wheel set. The problem is that the local suppliers has no stock of this rim, or a replacement wheel for that matter. To make matters worse they can not commit to this rim being in stock in South Africa in the next 3 months. How can the parts availability be so bad for a company as big as Giant? So my options are: a) wait three month (with no satisfaction guarrantee) b) Fit something like a DT Swiss rim and run unmatched wheels (even if is just the decals) c) purchase a complete replacement aftermarket wheelset. Either way Giant owner's beware since OEM replacement parts for your bikes might not be available.
  5. Had the exact same failure on my GoPro mount on day 2 of the Sani this year. I assumed that the plastic just fatigued as my mount has not endured any major impacts. Attached is a small video of the breakage. Kudos to the GoPro for still working faultlessly afterwards. Fallen Hero_small.wmv
