  1. This is what I was thinking. Glad someones at least on my side here.
  2. Yes coil spring. Air wasn't available and also I wanted the dual position.
  3. Hi so I'm looking at putting a RS Sektor RL dual pos coil on my cotic soul. The idea being that it will be a very capable trail bike that can do a bit of XC and a bit of burlier stuff when I chose too. The fork in question seems to be a 120-150mm but apparently there is also a 110-140 which would be the better option (but the pickings are slim and I've got a good deal on the 120-150 and I'm happy with it so long as its not an issue). The question is what is involved in modifying it or is it simply a setting that I could change. Do I need a space or something perhaps? And is it necessary the Soul is only officially rated to 140. And apparently its a barrel of fun there but the consensus is it isn't rated for 150mm so you shouldn't go there. Is this strictly true will I overstress the frame and potentially cause myself distress in the mid to long term or are they covering their bums due to legal issues and actually I shouldn't be so worried? Supposedly the soul and BFE are perfect for travel adjust since their geometry has been designed with multiple travel options in mind. What do you guys think. Need to make a decision on this quick since I've got people waiting in the wings.
  4. I'm in the same boat as many. I hardly ever post but read often. I'm building a bike at present and have bought stuff on the hub and currently am attempting to sell a fork, long story. Fact is I try to make sure my posts add something to the community or I don't bother. My build thread for instance I thought added something so I put it up but I'm not going to post arb pictures of people bailing off their bikes as funny as I might find them for the same reason I often don't bother to like people's photos on facebook. But I fully intend to present the item I'm selling honestly and answer any questions asked properly since that is how I expect to be treated when buying something. Maybe a small waiting period could be asked for but 100 posts is quite a lot actually and 1000 is months to years at my rate.
  5. I can offer a little bit of advice but I'm no expert. Firstly the best article I found on setting up a front derailiuer is here http://m.wikihow.com/Adjust-a-Front-Bicycle-Derailleur . Secondly I can tell you that I have a 9 speed fd installed on my 7 speed and it works fine. You do have to use your noggin though as the 2 smallest back rings do not play nice with the smallest front ring but this is normal. Next a word of caution. I spent 2 evenings fiddling with the thing to get it right. It takes a bit of patience. Eventually you need to step away read some more stuff and come back to it. In some cases sleeping on the problem helps. Now the last thing if you're trying to use a 10 speed fd on an 8 speed bike you may have a problem since as far as I know a 10 speed chain is much narrower than an 8 speed. This sort of compatibility thing is something I'm not that clued up about but a bit of googling will probably get you an answer.
  6. Just wanted to add that I took this little detour on my ride on Saturday and it was far better than having to cross the road. I enjoyed the ride a whole lot more due to one less road crossing and its quite neat the way the trail is cut into the bank on the other side of the culvet. Wanted to say thanks.
  7. Very Sorry to hear this. My Fiance actually made a point of picking up some litter by the jumping castle area where she was sitting but she did comment that there was a bit of a shortage of bins to throw things away in. Personally I find it annoying to see gels and rubbish left on route (and being the beginner racer I am there are a lot of people ahead of me) and as such I always keep any rubbish I generate in my camel back to throw away at the finish. I can't understand how some people expect someone to follow the entire length of a race to pick up their litter. Really I think water points should have bins and there should be plenty of bins at the finish but on the trail people should bag it till they get back. As a climber everyone is taught through peer pressure that you take your rubbish with you when you leave an area. That includes gross things like oily tuna cans and I have seen people go to great lengths to prevent the tuna oil messing up their pack so I don't understand why a gooey left over gel pack should pose such a problem. Even the most light weight cyclists wear a racing jersey with pockets. I say mtbing needs more peer pressure. Access is a very real concern and is one of the major discussion points within the climbing scene and litter directly affects access. The mtb community needs to realise that these are not public roads and the farmers have no obligation to allow you on their land so as in climbing we need to be concerned about keeping land owners happy. Climbing has lost a couple of stunning areas due to a few irresponsible people and I see all the same symptoms in the mtb community with one crucial difference - there are a lot more mtbers than climbers which means that code of conduct for them is even more critical by the sheer nature of numbers.
  8. Oh. On another look I think I see some part of it on the black route. Correct?
  9. So this was my first race. Did the half marathon. That hill around 10 ks was insane. But on the whole I really enjoyed the experience despite it being so hot and being thoroughly finished at the end. I will definitely be back. I have a question though for the hakahana people. Why is it that the rinkhals single track doesn't seem to feature on any of their now marked trails as published on the site. That was one of the highlights for me and I'd love to take some friends there in the future but I fear we may get lost due to it not featuring on any of the official trails. Or perhaps I don't know how to read a map.
