  1. There’s a couple of other things I want from them as well; so I’ll grab from them. Thanks.
  2. Where did you get those prices from? Going to attempt this with current tyres at the end of the month.
  3. Oh they do night riding there! How was that?
  4. It would take the rotors being much, much hotter for that to happen. Like dragging them for over 1km, kinda hot I would think.
  5. From the video? Looks pretty decent actually and something the wife might be able to do, too.
  6. That's a fair point. But I think we are talking about different DH tracks here. The one I saw, is not for your average ride - looked proper downhill and my bike isn't built for that. Will do. PS is this the route 1 you were referring to at BRB?
  7. Thanks for that, very informative! I might take you up on that offer too, at the moment I am struggling to find people to ride with me. I just wanna ride all the time at the moment and the wife wants to do more enduro / long XC type of stuff. So I generally go on my own on Saturday for a ride and then Sunday I go with her to ride somewhere easier, longer. Would you say Van gaalen is better than Cradle moon in some aspects? Trying to decide which one to go to on Sunday - the wife wanted to do CM. I am not phased either way to be fair. If its the same DH one I saw on YT where you need a cable cart to get to... I'll skip. Looks way too difficult for me lol
  8. Oh, forgot to mention - I have been to PwC a few times (Cycle lab bike park) and its alright. I use it to get more comfortable on the bike and the jump and pump track there are cool.
  9. I'll do some research on the trails and stuff in the area. Where do you stay in Howick? Just found this video on YT: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=28ZnBh3sNCA That looks like a lot of fun and more the kinda trails I wanna ride. I don't mind flat bits as well - but this looks fun! I've been invited to go ride with someone this weekend as well, at Van Gaalen. Between Van Gaalen and Cradle moon - which is better? The wife will be joining me so a slower ride is okay too. I keep hearing about Buffelsdrift as well. I'll check it out. Thanks for the recommendations.
  10. Thanks, I will loo at those. A Trip to KZN or even Howick might be cool, if they have trails worth the trip. Maybe make it a short holiday with the wife. Nice tip, thanks! I hear it can be busy there. Afternoon ride is better than morning then? I'll check Wolwespruit, thanks. I don't want quite DH - something between that and normal trails. Something that flows well, tests your skills, in cornering, drop offs, etc that sort of thing with some speed. I've been told Hennops is good. I'm not after big drop offs either, just something more interesting to ride than flat, slow ground.
  11. Hi all, I've recently gotten back into MTB; I used to do a lot of street / dirt jump riding in the UK about 15yrs back now. But I have moved on from those days and find trails a lot more interesting to ride. I've been looking at various trails around Gauteng for the last month (I have not visited any, besides Cyclelab bike park) and trying to get a sense on which trails would be good to ride. Looking for trails that offer speed, drops offs, berms, jumps, doubles, etc. Much like the kinda stuff you see on GMBN on YouTube (Though our terrain isn't like the UK, but hoping we have those kinda trails) This weekend I am going to Cradle Moon to do the yellow route, I hear that is a good route - but not expecting too much out of it.
  12. I had my weight at the back when trying to lock up the front wheel. But yeah, that is a sure way to be OTB. I'll try bleeding them at the end of the month, right now it isn't too much of an issue. I did realise though that I need to spend a little time setting up the cockpit properly. Both brake handles are not in the same position and they should move in more on the bars. I'll do that before Saturday I think. Unfortunately they are not C/L - but the standard 6-bolt setup. I'm Randburg side.
  13. I had some time this afternoon; so decided to bed in the pads. Removed them from the callipers and lightly sanded them. Fortunately there is a nice hill just outside my house, so I used that. Did one brake at a time; 5 or 6 times down the hill pulling hard on it and releasing just before the wheel locks up. Did that about 4 times on each run. Braking performance has definitely improved. I can lock up the rear wheel easy enough on the tar. The front one, I am not 100% sure on. Pulling it hard and the wheel almost locks up. Not quite. The bite point is also later on the front brake - how do I adjust this? Will see how the feel on this weekends ride and report back. Going to order some rotors at the end of the month. Thanks for all the help everyone, much appreciated!
  14. I'll bed in the pads this weekend and then go to 180mm rotors front and back. Will update here once done for future reference to others.
  15. I'll do this, this weekend before my rides. Thank you.
  16. Thanks for this. I am looking at maybe going with the Shimano SLX M7100's when the time comes. I believe they are decent as well? With 180 rotors it should definitely help But I will try bleed the brakes first and upgrade the rotors. Thanks, just what I am after!
  17. I'm a light rider at 75kg. I do like your thinking as well. I would upgrade rotors anyway if I got new brakes
  18. Thanks, however I have decided to give it a go myself. Just looking for the correct kit.
  19. I think it's worth getting the kit to do them yourself (Still need to find out where to buy it) as this is something you will need to do more than once on the bike. I'd rather do it myself than drag the bike to the shop each time.
  20. Thanks for the reply. I tend to agree with you on Tektro vs Shimano. Back in the day, I had Hope disc brakes (Like 12yrs ago or more) and they were really good then. I wonder how they are today? My wife's brakes have a sharp bite to them and just "feel" better overall. My brakes have not felt great from the day I took the bike out the shop. Perhaps I should look at new pads + re-bleed + proper bedding in? Appreciate the offer to look at the bike; PTA is a little far for me. I'll look at some GMBN videos on the subject as I do want to get more comfortable doing these sort of things on the bikes.
  21. I did not, Cyclelab did not mention this and being "new" to MTB again, I didn't give it much thought until I cam across a GMBN video on the subject. I have ridden the bike about 40km since then; so I figured that ship has sailed for bedding them in properly. Thank you for that; very helpful. I agree that 203's sound overkill. I like the idea of 180F and keeping rear 160. For reference the brakes are: Tektro HDM275 Hydr. Disc, Tektro / 6 bolt / F&R 160mm The bike: https://www.cyclelab.com/product/2021-scott-navajo-955-aluminium-hardtail-mountain-bike
  22. No idea who they are; last I heard was they were trying to sell the site. They really need to take the site down.
  23. I recently bought a Scott hardtail MTB from Cyclelab. Whilst I enjoy riding the bike, I feel the brakes are not as good as the Shimano's on my wife's bike. I don't want to buy a new set of brakes (just yet) and am considering upgrading the rotors to either 180mm or 203's. I know I can't just fit these rotors on; I need some sort of adapter for the calliper. A few questions: 1. Would this be a worth while upgrade or should I wait until I upgrade the whole brake set in a few months time (Maybe longer than that) 2. Where can I get the needed adaptors? 3. What's the recommended brake pads these days for trail riding? Thanks all!
  24. They're closed. However site still up on the web.
