I was quite amazed at the incompetence shown after the women's race was won. Why? Because the two women first through had to wait over an hour to know who won. Because the judges had to confer, because the video was inconclusive, the (lone available) angle was bad, other riders precluded the view. WTF. Why don't they look at the TIMES and say, oh that time goes with that name, and that name goes on that rider. How can they make the winner wait an hour to know if they've won? It's billed as the world's largest individually timed race, and yet when an occasion arises to use this, they can't do it. Completely amateur. A full day after the race and the official site only has start times as the latest update.

While we're talking about lights, all the lights in the world won't help if no one can see them. CHECK BATTERIES. More often than not when I get behind riders, once I'm behind them I can see most of them actually do have blinkers but they're so faint I can barely see them flash when I'm right behind them. IMO vertical arrays are crap, they don't seem to present good visibility even when they're working. I also respectfully disagree wrt adjusting front lights to shine in motorists faces. For one thing, I like the beam on the road to help me see potholes and trenches, and for another nobody wants to be blinded and with the luminosity of these new LEDs you can see them pretty easy even when they're not pointed at you. However if the motorist has brights on, in his face with the bikelight!

It'll make a bad impression on you if you don't hear an electric gate opening and a car suddenly rolls down the driveway and you're riding like a 12 year old right in his path. It's totally you in the wrong here, the only thing a driver might be expecting at that point is someone to jump out with a gun.
