  3. Hi Sorry we've been very busy clearing and cutting single track. Yes, it is happening on Sunday 8th June. Our website and entries will be updated with this years info very shortly.
  4. Event Name: Beaulieu Prep MTB Cycle Challenge 8th June 2014 When: 8 June 2014 Where: Kyalami, Gauteng Category: MTB This will be the 5th year that the event is running and we will be no holds barred to make this the greatest peri urban mtb cycle challenge in the country. This years event includes an awesome 2.5km, 5km, 15km, 25km and 45km route which starts again in the Beaulieu Nature Reserve inside Beaulieu Estate and ends at Beaulieu Prep. The 25 km and 45 km incorporates bridle trails, jeep and plenty of new single track. The 2.5km, 5km and 15 km meanders along the bridle trails inside the security of Beaulieu Estate and caters for the young and less fit. We are making a huge effort to make this race a truly memorable experience from beginning to end that will hopefully keep you talking for weeks afterwards. For those friends and family members who are not riding, there will be loads of entertainment, food, drinks and live music at Beaulieu Prep during and after the race. Go to Event Page
  5. As some of you may already know, Riversands farm and the joining property Inanda Fields in Kyalami have been purchased by Century Property Developments. They have applied to develop a light industrial development on the Riversands property and have started construction on the access roads for the development. As a result they have erected a fence around the entire property to limit access to the site which throws a spanner in the works for those of you who used to ride the trails through the forested area and along the river. It also means you will need to finds a new access route to get to Northern Farm and a through route between between Sun Valley and Helderfontein. In the mean time the access gate on Rose Road is open but I'm not sure for how long. If riding there, please stay clear of the construction area where clearing work is being done as that will just aggravate the land owner. I'll keep you posted on alternate routes and trails in the area.

  7. . This years will be out shortly
  8. . What a great turn out! A huge thank you to all the cyclists who came out and supported us and to the residents of Beaulieu and the Kyalami land owners for allowing us access to their bridle trails and properties. Thank goodness for the excellent weather we had considering it was just about the shortest day of the year. Sorry about the slightly extended distances. As far as I know there was only one real crash at the beginning resulting in suspected broken humerus, yet the guy still managed to finish top 30, wow! Saw some very interesting descending skills at the broken dam drop off. Made for great entertainment. PS Remember that many of the trails and roads in the area are on private property and please be friendly to all people you are passing. If you are riding in the area please remember to slow right down when passing people on horse back and warn them if approaching from behind.
  9. Looks like plenty of interest in the race by the number of views on our website http://www.bps-mtb.co.za Please come along and support the race. We've spent about three months preparing the trails in the area. I can guarantee you that you will not be disappointed. Remember online entries close tomorrow 19th June. You can however still enter on Friday afternoon 21st June at Beaulieu Prep and before the race on Saturday morning. My advice would be to get those online entries in to avoid any pre-race chaos. PS bring your families along. There will be plenty of entertainment at the finish during and after the race.
  10. Don't forget online entries close on the 19 June.
  11. All systems go for this years event on the 22nd June which starts at the Beaulieu bird sanctuary in Kyalami Gauteng Enter online at http://www.bps-mtb.co.za Check out our promo video. Some shots were taken from last years event and some of the video clips are from the dry runs along the trails prepared for this years event. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T3kLbgdyeQ0
  12. Event Name: Beaulieu Prep MTB Cycle Challenge 22nd June When: 22 June 2013 Where: Beaulieu Prep, Kyalami, Gauteng Category: MTB This is the 4th year that this fund raiser event will be running and caters for the needs of the entire family and all schools willing to take up the challenge. Once again we will focus on creating an opportunity for all to take part in either the 45km, 25km, 14.5km, 4.5km or 2km events. The 14.5km had been designed specifically for novice to intermediate riders and all competing school teams. Don't be fooled into thinking that it will be a walk over. The 4.5km is a for all those young budding cyclists who just want to ride for the fun of it and the 2km is a parent assisted ride for the little ones. The 25km will exist Beaulieu and traverse some of the spectacular single track river trails. Lastly, the 45km caters for the more experienced fitter andadventurous rider which promises to be even better than last year, with loads of single track cutting across some of the most beautiful farms in the area. The race will start at the Beaulieu Nature Reserve and will finish at Beaulieu Pre School in Beaulieu Estate, just North of Joburg. There will be plenty of entertainment for all cyclists and non cyclists with live music, food stalls and activities to keep the kids entertained during and after the events. 15. Congratulations to all the cyclists and supporters who braved the weather and took part in the 3rd Beaulieu Mountain bike Cycle Challenge. Your contribution to raising funds for the school and bringing back cycling to the Kyalami community is really appreciated. Unfortunately, the wind and weather played havoc with some of our signage and the brains of some of the marshals and I believe that some of the 45km participants ended up doing 60km. In the end everyone got home safely and I'm sure enjoyed the race. I'd like to say a huge thank you to the local community for allowing the race to traverse their bridle paths and pass over their properties. Thank you to the Sector 4 Community Policing Forum, the Mounted River Rangers, ADT, Peace Force and Scorpion Trail Security for keeping the cyclists safe along the entire route. Thank you also to all the volunteers and Entry Time for being so professional and assisting with the administration of the entries, and race registrations. Please send feedback, good and bad so that we can improve on next years event.

  17. I have the same problem. I was quoted R3500 by my local bike shop to get the stanchions replaced . I was told that Fox will not help individuals privately. Would your contact be willing to help me out. I need to save every cent as I'm just about to replace my chain, cassette, chain rings, jockeys, gear cables, tyres, break pads for the joberg2c. I'm not lying. Check out my blog Joberg2c blog
  18. Well the proof will be in the pudding. I'm about to place an order for R3800 worth of spare parts with CRC. Every one of the 15 items I wanted was in stock. I'll pop into Solomons today and do a little comparison and will report back tomorrow on my experience.
  19. Excellent ride. Damn tough! spent the afternoon repairing my bike. I was really surprised that the winning team only came in 4h40. We finished in 5:27. The conditions certainly didn't help anybody. I saw the last guy finish in about 8h10. OUCH! Great 'gees' at the watering stations. I ended up with sand between my chamois and my butt. The last 10 km felt as if someone was sanding my arse with sandpaper. Thanks to the Subaru guys. Joberg2c is going to be a blast. Don't forget to visit our Joberg2c blog
  20. Here is a definition I found on trespassing 'In present-day usage the term trespass is usually applied only to unlawful entry into private property. If a trespasser refuses a request to leave the premises, he may be removed by force.' I suppose then, it does sound like I am condoning responsible trespassing. I'm actually not sure where I stand on the trespassing thing. On the one hand, I understand that open riding spaces are becoming more and more scarce and if cyclists didn't trespass then they would all have to ride on the road. On the other hand, they should respect the law. It's the right thing to do and they should steer clear... and yes it is still private property even if it's not fenced in. However, if cyclists are courteous to landowners then they are partly there, If they have permission then they are not trespassing and if permission is denied then they can't plead ignorance. You see, I really don't know where I stand on this. In the UK, public paths over privately owned farms are the norm. Here in the north of Joburg my farther in law happens to be one of those farmers/landowners. So my advice based on numerous conversations with him, is to please be polite and say hello if you happen to pass him or other landowners. You never know when they may feel like applying the law My blog aims to cover all aspects of preparing for the Joberg2c, including the issue of trespassing and how to ensure that it never becomes a reason not to ride.
  21. When riding on someone else’s land at least have the courtesy to say hello. You never know, it may just be the land owner. The same goes for people on horseback. Approach them slowly and warn them if you are approaching from behind. Horses unlike bikes have a mind of their own. BTW, have a look at my blog which is tracking our preparation and training for the joberg2c 2011 at blogspot joberg2c 2011 preparation. For those of you who don't know it's a 9 day multiday MTB event from Johannesburg to Scottburgh
  22. Should I be worried? I thought the Sani2c was tough enough. Is it true that you can ride yourself fit over the 9 days and that is possibly why the final 3 days feel easier?
  23. Thanks for the tips. Ok, so I'm hardly a racing snake. I've done the Sani2c 4 times. Raced with the big dogs twice (not that I ever saw them) and adventured twice. It was great to be in the A group in the Adventure. We usually finish in the top half of the field (Probably closer to half). Unfortunately I lost my entry to my cycling partners girlfriend so ditched him and found someone else mad enough to do the joberg2c. What's interesting with Gary Benekes training programme is that he starts with 12 to 14 hours per week for the first month and then reduces the time in the months to follow. I've always kind of done it the other way round. Like most I'm sure, I only started increasing my weekly training from the middle of Jan so am now a bit behind. Is there any way to catch up without killing myself. I find with this kind of long distance training my immune system takes a hammering. Weight loss is an interesting topic. I found in previous years of Sani2c training that my weight dropped off just before the race probably by about 5 to 6 kg. I'm not sure that's particularly good for anyone. It's pretty difficult maintaining a <65% heart rate especially when you are used to having only an hour to an hour and a half on weekday mornings to train. There is always some wise arse challenging someone to get to the end of the road first. I'll be keeping my blog Joberg2c Preparation up to date so any comments there are also welcome. Cheers for now
  24. Hi I will be doing the Joberg2c for the first time at the end of April this year. To be honest, at first I was apprehensive but now I'm in the swing of training and really looking forward to it. The question is, am I doing enough to ensure that I have a great race? So what I really want is advice on preparing for a long multiday event. If anyone is interested, I've started a blog Joberg2c preparation blogspot to help track my Joberg2c experience from start to finish. Tips welcome.
  25. I just returned from the Eastern Cape having driven over some fairly bumpy tar roads and had to stop 3 times to clip my Thule 943 bike rack tilt mechanism back in place after it failed and tilted the whole rack backwards, bike and all at 120 km/h. Fortunately my bike stayed on the rack but did make for a stressful journey. One advantage of buying a Thule rack is that I know the guys at Thule will help me sort the problem out.
