  1. ChrisF thanks for your thoughts. I agree with you, we all need to be responsible when not actually riding. To clarify, I encountered this individual three different times and every time we were heading in opposite directions while riding. He was screaming from the very first time he came close enough for me to hear him. As a rule I avoid confrontation at all costs as nobody wins, even when you "correct" as you say. May God help us all...on and off the bike.
  2. Fully agree Swift&Aero, a calm chat would have been good and should be our go to attitude. I have extra patience with my fellow cyclists as we all have issues and the bike is our therapy or joy or release.... and that's why I just cycled on the first two times. I didn't even look at him in an effort to avoid confrontation, but this dear fellow cyclist intentionally changed direction the third time and nearly caused a head-on collision and all this while screaming. I might add, he was screaming at everyone not wearing a mask. (I have a buff around my neck at all times to put on when I stop) I yelled at him to stop being stupid without using any expletives...even though his actions could have landed both of us in hospital or worse. I really do have great understanding for peoples fear and frustration during this time, but man some people just seem determined to share their crappy nappy vibes.
  3. Thanks for the confirmation DieseInDust! Next time that wingnut screams at me to wear a mask I'm going to have some choice responses
  4. What is the latest regulation on wearing a mask while riding? (social or training on road) Many wearing and many not...
  5. Will everyone ride together? If so, what speed?
  6. Totally agree and why charge entry for a none rider or want to visit a second time? The Two Oceans Expo is way better and they don't charge anything! Happened to be in London a couple years back over the Ride London weekend, went to the expo and tell you what an experience! No entry charge, in fact everybody walking through the door got a goody bag filled with quality stuff not toothpaste and 110 flyers... stands was far superior and specials so much better to what is on offer locally. CTCT really dropping the ball with the expo, come on guys you are so much better than this!!
  7. A friend just posted this report and warning on his Facebook wall. Can the cycle path not be extended to run along the highway on the harbour side? Many MTB's already using it... "Cyclists beware: Maon Saxe from Sunset Beach's horror cycling experience this morning: Today while riding on the cycle lane over the bridge at the end of Paarden Eiland, I was mugged! I am fine bar grazes on my elbow. I knew that particular spot was notorious for muggings and I should have waited for a few riders to ride together with, but I was limited for time and so decided to go ahead solo. This was at about 7.30am. I skirted around two of them but the third knocked me off my bike. They never harmed me after I fell off. My phone fell out and they took it and my bike. Fortunately 3 amazing black guys walking to work heard me screaming and got my bike back but the phone is gone. Please let fellow cyclist you know, not to be willfully ignorant like me and know that its no longer safe to ride on the cycle lane in that area even with another cyclist. They should wait to form a group and if no one comes go on the highway or try go through the harbour! Its shocking we have to live in fear and cant use a cycle lane that cost our city millions of rands !"

  9. I ordered a Campy groupset from Ribble on 2 Nov and selected the 9 pound shipping option to keep costs down. Was praying that it gets here safe and before Christmas, well, I got a call on the morning of 16 Nov to confirm address and vat to be paid. It was delivered by 1pm on the 17th to by office, paid the delivery guy cash for the VAT. Super impressed, delivery to my door in 2 weeks for 9 pounds! Now that's service at a price nobody in SA could even dream of!!
  10. Try your local bike shop, if not they should know who does. Fit the bike as best as possible and just go have fun, the vibe will carry you.
  11. Disc brakes on a road bike is a bad idea for as many reasons as it is good. At the end of the day there is no need for them and as usual it all boils down to greedy bike companies who need something new to sell us so we will buy the "latest greatest new bike" Well not me, nothing wrong with the current brakes and no desire for my road bike to look like a MTB!
  12. Awesome feedback, thanks Yusran! I've done it on both and totally agree, for racing there is only one option - road! But when i'm out to enjoy the day with full road closure and very little training, then the MTB is my best friend!
