  1. My great grandfather worked for Raleigh in Vereeniging
  2. Hello.... I would like a few opinions on the following problem at hand. I have stripped and built some bikes but this bike is a little more special. I have acquired a 1940's Carlton track from its original owner and started cleaning the old guy up but there are some areas of the restoration I am undecided on. The first area being the wheels... They are very rusty on the spokes, the original tyres still look good (keeping those) and the cute simplex hubs also look a little rusty. Should I rebuild the wheels? The next big question is the frame. It has been hammered quite a bit. lots of missing paint and a small dent... I think a clear coat or redo paint work? The only thing is that it has some really nice hand painted decals and I don't want to lose its originality... I have however cleaned and polished all the parts and they are looking amazing. If anyone can help me with some ideas on how to best restore this old machine without losing too much of its value, feel free. Rozanne
  3. Might be too small for you but looks the right size for me
  4. So my Vitus 979 build is complete, I think a good name for her is Black sheep... Also I will be cycling her on the retro cycle on Sunday. Can't wait!

  6. Sounds like a lot of planning. I was hoping not to go into a build option. If I may ask where did you get your wheel built and what did they charge?
  7. Awesome guys. I like some of these wheels!! And yes coffee is needed always I really like the american classic 420 aero 3 wheels. Super sexy! and there is an option of cyclocross... Just to ask Scott "some Aluminium rims weigh less than carbons"? is this with or with out tyres and clincher or tubular? Also someone said that it is really hard to get a puncture on a tubular tyre? I am not sure.
  8. Well I was thinking of around R10 000?
  9. OMG! I love your wheels! looking really sexy
  10. Morning everyone I would like to find out, I am fairly new at the whole road bike area of cycling and would like to find out if anyone has experience with carbon road wheelsets. What would be a great set and if it would be better to go for tubular or clincher? I know that there are carbon tubular sets our there that seem cheaper that the clinchers but also that tubular tyres are more costly. If I were to throw a hypothetical road race (say the 94.7) but would like to upgrade my wheels for the race and a few thereafter, in order to improve my time? What wheelset would you go for? Thanks a mill
  11. You can also google the tubing different tubing... So many variations. I don't think there is ever a wrong or wright answer. These old foggies liked to experiment on their builds. I have a Peugeot Rapport with experimental tubing...
  12. Well special coursa is actually a lower grade Viner compared to the special professional and special coursa Prista. Only the tree main tubes are made of higher grade Columbus steel, the rest was cheaper, heavier stuff. If you guys have ever picked up a Viner with the cross on it and not the star on the fork and down tube lugs, now you know what it is... Here is an example
  13. Feel like I am going to be stoned for my previous comment...
  14. How about a Viner Special Coursa? Its not the special professional, so I wouldn't say that they absolutely need a Campy groupset. I stuck mine on a Vitus, 600ex is a great grouppo. I don't believe that campy is a must for Italian frames, all bikes should be ridden!! I don't think a frame minds what you put on it as long as it looks good and functions. Saying this... I now feel bad for not setting my gears yet to take her out for a spin
