Event Name: Bay2Beach When: 19 March 2016 - 20 March 2016 Where: Nature's Valley, Eastern Cape Category: Road Bay 2 Beach 2016: Two Day Road Stage Race – Natures Valley to Port Elizabeth A 2 Day Team Road stage race from Natures Valley and finishing on the Beaches of Port Elizabeth. A unique event using old tar regional roads and including passes like Bloukrans, Grootrivier Pass, Gamtoos and Van Stadens with an overnight stop at the beautiful Cape St Francis Resort. Teams of 3 and 4 make up the field . At least 3 riders from each team need to finish to qualify as a finisher. The Route Sat 19 March 2016 Starting in Natures Valley the peloton will head out on the R102 for 1.5km and straight into a long climb up the Grootrivier Pass. It’s up and over and just 7km away is the beautiful old Bloukrans pass which was designed around the Elephant migration tracks. Once through the Bloukrans pass it’s a gentle roller coaster ride past Storms River on the N2 and then at Witelsbos you’re back on the R102. It’s all the way into Humansdorp and onto the finish at Cape St Francis. Total Distance 147 km and 1190 m elevation Sun 20 March 2016 Starting on the beachfront opposite St Francis Resort , its an easy exit out of to Humansdorp and onto the R102 and through Jeffrey’s Bay and a nice descent into the Gamtoos River. Were on the old road and a nice climb out of the valley, past Thornhill and up and over the old Van Stadens pass. Carrying on the R102 the group turns right onto Draaifontein Road, into De Stades and the popular Maitland meander. It’s over the top and a downhill race into the finish at Beachview resort. Total Distance 101 km and 850 m elevation Accomodation Your entry includes accommodation at St Francis Resort and Dinner , Bed and Breakfast. Dates and Times The dates are Friday 19th and 20th March 2016. With the start being at 9am at Natures Valley. Classes It’s a team event made up of 3 or 4 riders per team and limited to 60 teams. At least 3 riders from each team need to finish. Teams of 4 can therefore lose a rider if need be. Open Men – 3/4 Male riders Open Ladies – 3/4 Lady Riders Mixed Men – At least one Lady rider in team of 3 or 4 ( lady has to finish for team to qualify as finisher) Mixed Ladies – One male rider per team ( At least 2 ladies and 1 male need to finish) Seeding Line up in the start chute for Day 1 will be on a 1st come 1st serve basis and Day 2 will afford the top 10 teams preferential starting positions. Bag Transport Your bags will be transported from Start in Natures Valley to the finish at Beachview. A tough rugged Bag is advisable. Bags will need to be dropped off and collected at luggage trucks.
