Event Name: Bay2Beach When: 19 March 2016 - 20 March 2016 Where: Nature's Valley, Eastern Cape Category: Road Bay 2 Beach 2016: Two Day Road Stage Race – Natures Valley to Port Elizabeth A 2 Day Team Road stage race from Natures Valley and finishing on the Beaches of Port Elizabeth. A unique event using old tar regional roads and including passes like Bloukrans, Grootrivier Pass, Gamtoos and Van Stadens with an overnight stop at the beautiful Cape St Francis Resort. Teams of 3 and 4 make up the field . At least 3 riders from each team need to finish to qualify as a finisher. The Route Sat 19 March 2016 Starting in Natures Valley the peloton will head out on the R102 for 1.5km and straight into a long climb up the Grootrivier Pass. It’s up and over and just 7km away is the beautiful old Bloukrans pass which was designed around the Elephant migration tracks. Once through the Bloukrans pass it’s a gentle roller coaster ride past Storms River on the N2 and then at Witelsbos you’re back on the R102. It’s all the way into Humansdorp and onto the finish at Cape St Francis. Total Distance 147 km and 1190 m elevation Sun 20 March 2016 Starting on the beachfront opposite St Francis Resort , its an easy exit out of to Humansdorp and onto the R102 and through Jeffrey’s Bay and a nice descent into the Gamtoos River. Were on the old road and a nice climb out of the valley, past Thornhill and up and over the old Van Stadens pass. Carrying on the R102 the group turns right onto Draaifontein Road, into De Stades and the popular Maitland meander. It’s over the top and a downhill race into the finish at Beachview resort. Total Distance 101 km and 850 m elevation Accomodation Your entry includes accommodation at St Francis Resort and Dinner , Bed and Breakfast. Dates and Times The dates are Friday 19th and 20th March 2016. With the start being at 9am at Natures Valley. Classes It’s a team event made up of 3 or 4 riders per team and limited to 60 teams. At least 3 riders from each team need to finish. Teams of 4 can therefore lose a rider if need be. Open Men – 3/4 Male riders Open Ladies – 3/4 Lady Riders Mixed Men – At least one Lady rider in team of 3 or 4 ( lady has to finish for team to qualify as finisher) Mixed Ladies – One male rider per team ( At least 2 ladies and 1 male need to finish) Seeding Line up in the start chute for Day 1 will be on a 1st come 1st serve basis and Day 2 will afford the top 10 teams preferential starting positions. Bag Transport Your bags will be transported from Start in Natures Valley to the finish at Beachview. A tough rugged Bag is advisable. Bags will need to be dropped off and collected at luggage trucks. At the Lormar tour its all about the vibe, food, relaxation, family and great scenery! Most Tours on the calendar cater for the single or team riders but not so much for the supporters and family. At the Lormar Tour we make sure there is loads of entertainment for the supporters like: Horse riding and Ponies for the kids, Hiking and Swimming while you are racing your bike. We also have a new edition to the Tour, the Lormar Mini. This is for beginner riders, the family and supporters that like to do shorter distances each day. The Lormar Mini is also perfect to watch the rest of the race and see the action go past right in front of you! The Tour venue is held on a well known Arabian horse farm where we incorporate an extra unique aspect at the start of every day. Our main goal is to create awareness of the spectacular Karoo and what it offers so freely. Our mission is to raise funds for local schools in the community providing them with bicycles to get from point A to B much easier! Route Type: Circular This course is hard and hilly, yet scenic. The finish venue is on the picturesque farm Avondzon. Set in the foothills of the Drakensberg, this is a ride well known for its spectacular scenery and brutal hills. The race takes place exclusively on gravel roads; you will find the first quarter a moderate ride. The second and third quarters will prove more demanding with some challenging hill climbing; but have faith; what goes up must come down. The last quarter of the ride is mostly downhill. Event Name: Super D Series CANCELLED When: 21 September 2014 Where: Slipperfields MTB Trails, Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape Category: Enduro The Super-D series is being hosted by Slipperfields MTB trails and comprises of two events taking place on the 24th of August and the 21st of September. ENTRIES ARE LIMITED to 80 riders who will put their skills to the test on the new VIPA Trail on the slopes of Lady Slipper Mountain. Riders will be rewarded points at each event and their combined score will determine their overall position with prize money being awarded to the TOP 10 overall positions. SO WHAT IS SUPER D? Super-D is a blend of cross-country and downhill. The course consists of both a downhill and uphill section. The downhill is on trails similar to the downhill segment of a cross-country race while the uphills are challenging enough to make the use of downhill bikes unlikely. As a result, most riders make use of cross-country or 'trail bikes' however you do not need a highly specialized bike to have a good experience in a Super-D event. Challenging yet not over the top technical, slow and high speed sections and maybe a few man-made obstacles all come together to challenge riders of varying abilities and fitness. It is all about being all-inclusive rather than being a very exclusive event. Super-D rewards the all-round bike rider. It is a balance of bike skills, fitness and even strategy. You do not need to be a technical god or a fitness fanatic to do well in Super-D. Depending on the trail and race venue, the start method and format may differ. Conventionally a seeded or mass start is used, however, at Slipperfields we intend to mix things up by and add a bit more excitement to the format by making use of knock-out heats. All 80 riders will however first have to complete a qualifying individual time trial whereby the fastest 16 riders will progress straight into round 2 and the rest will head into round 1 comprising of 4-man heats. Riders will then be knocked out with each round and eventually 4 finalists will compete in the finals. Super-D has gained popularity abroad and Slipperfields is proud to be the pioneers of this exciting racing initiative in the Eastern Cape and hope it will encourage a growth in spectator participation at MTB events.
