  1. You've got one? Tell me about it! Been dreaming for ages... In my case, a bit of practice and adaptation from steelcrunch (derailleur) gear change techniques.....more weight in the rear wheel, less weight everywhere else (I needed a larger volume rear tyre, mostly 'cos of my extra kg's as well). Otherwise....absolutely friggin' brilliant.....easier shifting (stationary as well!), no fiddly adjustments, less (almost no) maintenance....and...and.... I run a 32t chainring and 11t cog (see weight issue above), the lowest ratio allowed by Rohloff. All I want now is a Thorn Sterling (eccentric BB) frame so I can lose the chain tensioner....I'm still dreaming.....
  2. the +1.5kg is what makes me shiver. ` At 95kg I Don`t care about a piffling 1,5kg. The actual weight gain is probably closer to 800gms once you factor in the deraileur etc. Good one dude! My point exactly........(me also 90+kg........)
  3. +1 on the Rohloff!!!!! One chainring, no derailleur....can't get better than that
  4. My old Diadoras started to shed tread faster than my hair is falling so my research started........ After getting the name of the two Raleigh Ranger stockists in PE (from Probike), I made the 130km groot trek last Saturday to view and try on them (and other shoes). Shop A: nothing in my size (45 or 46), no offer to obtain them.....I ended up looking at Specialized and Olympic......the sales assistant dude was obviously trying to handle as many customers at a time that he could and could only spend a few minutes with me before rushing off. The shop WAS crazy busy though, but my coin is also legal tender. So, off to Shop B....rather seriously wetted off.... Shop B: much more relaxed but.....the Rangers were more than 200 bills more than the RRP I got from Probike and that of Shop A......no way Jose......sales oke showed me a last year Sidi pair and then stated that the Raleighs were very low end and equivalent in quality to the Olympic....what? Really? I really like the Rangers (in view of the features vs price) but where oh where........? If they last half as well as the Sidi and Specialized I'd be dead happy (they're half the price)...................and they have the ratchet thingie as well as a substantial looking tread... Any suggestions? Maybe Solomons is the way to go?
  5. Cheers Big H, good advice there.....will give it a bash....the SAPO crowd seems a a bit clueless (surprisingly so).....
  6. I'm in a similar position. I ordered some stuff from SJS Cycles in the UK and they posted by Royal Mail in December....I'm still waiting. I have the tracking number but I can't find any e-mail based way to query with Royal Mail.....any suggestions would be welcome.
  7. Rest In Peace Craig......my thoughts have been with the family since i read this shocking piece of news..... I must be honest, I am now becoming crap scared of riding in my area. I have to use sections of the R72 (narrow, no yellow line area) in the Kenton-on-Sea/Bushmans area to reach the dirt roads I normally ride on. The number of times I've had scary trucksuck from close encounters as well as solid and non-solid line overtakers heading straight towards me on these relatively short sections of tar road....... I just don't know, should I ride on the verge? Maybe that could be a starting point. Even that isn't safe as we've had pedestrians in the area hit and killed while walking well off the road. Take up off road running maybe? As I said, my nerve is going......
  8. Joined the ROAG club last week and bought my CSA licence through them. Extremely hassle-free with good e-mail comunication......what a pleasure for those of us in the sticks. Just waiting for the kit to be made available! Make it good guys.....
  9. In 1974 Infantry National Service, an "etter" was explained (by the instructor) to be, and I quote,"'n hond wat sy eie *** vreet"........ We were all etters (of course) at that time......
  10. Swearing in uncool full bleddy (sorry) stop........gender discrimination is taboo so don't bring the lady thing into it to justify vloeking in the company of one's own gender.......
  11. Oh Yeah? Who makes the "original" version of these and where can I get them: http://www.origin-8.com/dropEnds.htm
  12. Hi guys, Some of this stuff looks quite tasty. http://www.origin-8.com/ Is there an SA distributor or maybe one in the pipeline? Cheers
  13. Mmmmmm, interesting...... What effect would tire pressure have on grip? I run relatively high (higher end of the recommendations) due to my weight (pinch flats/snakebites) and to minimise hard surface/gravel/tar rolling resistance. Am I barking up the wrong tree here?
  14. Are you in Slovenia or Kosovo? We have a good ex Napster current Facebook chat buddy in Ljubljana......party animal deluxe. Maybe you could look him up for me sometime and 'ave a few?
  15. I prefer the maintenance-free full cromoly forks with the retro air suspension system inside the tyres.....
