  1. Hi I donated my old road bike to one of our staff at work who wanted to start cycling. The problem now is he is not really sure where to start. Are there any clubs / group rides for beginners in the Sebokeng Area or anyone looking for a riding partner
  2. RIP Andrew I am just sorry I was not able to provide anymore information on the car I saw driving along Pres Fouche on Thursday morning : The blue car - to me looked like a Opel Astra, with a broken windscreen. I last saw it at intersection of Pres Fouche & Jacarnada where i turned right. It looked like he was going left. On my way home from work yesterday I checked the kerbs, sidewalk and island he had driven over in the hope of finding a clue, possibly a registration plate that had fallen off, but had no luck.
  3. On my way to gym this morning, heading along Pres Fouche towards Olivedale I ended up behind what i think was a blue Opel hatchback (probably the 3rd car) that was initially driving with its lights off. Was mounting the kerbs on either side of the road, wanted to stop it but couldn't risk passing. the vehicle turned left in Jacaranda at top of Pres Fouche, probably heading for North Riding.
  4. Seems the Boom Gate at Beyer's is now operational, must have found a loop hole somewhere. Apparently the boomed gate was not put up by Heia but the Cradle Moon Conservancy. Strange that when we arrived at the gate on Sunday morning and the Security Guard wanted R30 from us, when we declined paying first Heia's owners son came out and when we still weren't interested in paying, he came out. Said we only had to pay R30 to ride, what we paid Hero was our prerogative and if we didnt want to pay them anything didnt have to as it was his land. We went and rode the Cradle Mtb Loop. I can also confirm there are hippo's there, we found fresh hippo tracks in the mud on the yellow route a couple of weeks ago and were quite surprised as to how far up the yellow route they went.
  5. Havent really found a downhill i cant ride, and i ride with a rigid front fork.
  6. Not complaining about 5 star accommodation, we camp at most of the races we go to. Just a few suggestions. Did do Hakahana, race and normal riding, on my rigid singlespeed. Didnt have any complaints about the watering points or about the campsite itself, and hope to be back next year. If there's a race, if numbers drop any more it may not be viable. Maybe a few changes would encourage people to come back.
  7. Yes, but those hills are rideable, Ive done them I just dont see the point off putting in hills that arent rideable. If i cant ride a hill because I'm not fit enough or its too technical, then that is my problem. When you do a race and the KOM winner walks a hill, thats not the riders problem.
  8. 1st time I've done this race, but cant say I agree with all the comments above. I came to do a mtb race, putting un-rideable hills on the route to me is not right. I dont mind short sections where you may have to walk, but hills up to a km long are not on. Route markings were ok, but the one at the bottom of the steep downhill with the sharp left turn was badly placed, causing the leading ladies and a few others to take a wrong turn. Fortunatley they didnt have to go to far before a gate blocked them and the ladies managed to get back on the correct route without being passed. Singletrack !! I was expecting a lot more considering where we were riding. There was singletrack all over the place but for some reason we got to ride very little of it and were kept mainly on jeep track. Barbwire on the route, there was one section where we had to ride over uncovered barbwire (the other section was covered with a rubber mat). Bridge with slats missing, caused some heavy braking - wouldnt have been that hard to replace the slats. Otherwise not to bad a route. We spent the weekend there and the campsite is very nice, but could encourage more people if they changed/did a few things. Friday - no hot water, no toilet paper in the ablutions. No braai facilties on the campsites, had to hire a braai for R50.00 a night. Suspect reception controller, when I arrived alone, I had to pay my R100 for the weekend. No receipt or registration taken down. Just my R100 for sticker. When friends arrived later, with others they had to give their names, registration etc. !!! Wonder what happend to my R100 !!! Maybe without having to walk 1km uphill and a few other changes the number of participants would improve, instead of dropping from 500 to 200 !!!
  9. It wasnt a crack that was the problem, it was a problem with the rear dropout.

  11. My latest Momsen SL792 Carbon SS, after a frame replacement due to a warranty claim
  12. Over December I discovered a fault on my carbon Momsen frame, took it in to the lbs and they werent sure whether it would be a warranty claim or not. Anyway the next day they phoned me and said I should come and fill in the Warranty claim forms and they would send them through to Momsen. So on the 24th December 2014 I went and filled in the forms, not expecting to hear anything till well into the New Year. On 5th January 2015 i got an email from TWT stating that the claim was approved and giving me a choice of replacement frames. After replying which frame I wanted, the next day I received another email stating the frame had been couriered and should be at the lbs in 2 days. I have now rebuilt the bike and will be taking it out this weekend. Thanks Momsen and Two Wheels Trading for the great service.
  13. Hi Guys I lost my Garmin Edge 200 at Hero Adventure Park (Heia Safari) on Sunday 29th June. I put it on the boot of my car when I was loading the bikes and forgot it there when I drove off Went back later to look for it, but no luck. If anyone found it please PM me.
  14. Yes, you probably were right about the gearing. . However my team mate was riding a geared bike, so I had to gear so I could at least stay in touch with him on the flats.
