Thanks - I keep telling myself that to feel better about not being upfront doing more of the work Had a couple of bad experiences with bunches crashing in my first season riding which put me off, but forced myself to get back in the mix this year and it's really helped push me to go harder than I do solo.

Ah - cool - sounding better and better ...

Nice ... I dream of averaging those kind of speeds one day ... best I managed this season was a 90km stretch at just over 27 km/h, but I was a total wheelsuck for nearly all of that. Luckily no one seemed to notice or mind

FWIW - my PPA seeding group is "P" which has been around a 25km/h average on recent rides (don't know how other orgs seeding letters work). So @speedracer's 30km/h would suggest top few alphabet letters. By my calcs that moving speed will give you 17 mins for water/fuel stops and fixing any punctures. Seems a little tight on contingency if you're hungry for that sub 7 - I'd reckon you might need to aim at a higher speed. But .... I'm not in your league, and haven't done a DC before, so I could be talking k*k

With that kind of speed you're going to exceed the Max Speed for audax events ....

Yep - such is my fate that weekend. Weekend with family & inlaws at the coast. Otherwise I might have pitched up to see if there was a nice Autobus at the back to help pull me around - not because I'm a sprinter, just because I'm slow ....
  7. Cheers for the info guys. My roadie setup has also been troubling me lately, and I have a new bike build going on - so I reckon it's time to get a re-fit. Something about my leg extension and fore/aft saddle positioning just doesn't feel quite right.

Very true - I'm definitely more of a mid to lower alphabet rider

Cool. We have a first team ride planned for 22nd April, so will mention your ride for those who have that day free and feel they have the legs! - Rob

Sorry guys - I caused confusion here. My post wasn't to suggest the Hub B / social team do this ride on 28th, but we use the route for future training rides since it sounds like a good one (thanks for that). Having said that - thanks for being cool with any of our emerging team joining as a slower paced group. I'm away that weekend, so sadly wouldn't be able to join anyway - plus I reckon I'd be somewhat off your 23 to 25km/h target pace. Sure if some of the other guys and girls are up for it they'll post though.

Cheers SeaBee - my bad post wording. Ride was already planned by some of the other faster guys in a separate thread I think for the long weekend after easter. My suggestion was for the social team to include the route as one of our training circuit rides as @Mads is Paarl based.

Useful tips - thanks SeaBea. That does indeed sound quite a fast pace given the nice big climbs through those two passes - I reckon if/when the "Hub B / social team" get to ride this route we may well take it at a little more ... well .... social pace. Would be very interested how everyone finds the route, especially Bains - I remember that road is pretty narrow and carries quite a few cars. @Fandacious posted a nice "long" variation on this route also for later on in DC training when distances need to step up: https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/24843-fandacious-dc-training-ride/page__hl__dc+training__fromsearch__1 Although his target of 27km/h was even tougher!

Darn it - sounds like an awesome ride. I'd be there like a bear if family and I weren't already booked away that long weekend. I wonder if they'd notice if I slipped away for a few hours @Mads - how about we put this route on the "from Paarl" training circuits, sounds like a beaut! Edit - meant to say add this route to training circuit

Excellent - What's a good email for you so I can include you on the email circulation list? (feel free to send by PM for privacy) We can talk some Audax, LEL etc etc too ... and maybe even get around to that beer at the Old Bridge

Drop us a PM with your email if you're up for it - I'll put you on the email list. First get together ride is planned for 22 April, Camps Bay. I'll also be traveling in from Somerset West if you want to drive in together.

Cool, cheers will have a chat with the guys on 22nd re: team names, kit etc and then get in touch with Admin after if everyone wants to go that way. Yep, I also met couple of good training buddies for this past season and Argus too - worked out very well.

Yep, it would. We have 7 interested riders now for the social team 8.5/9/5 team, and an inaugural ride booked in for 22 April. Great that The Hub allowed us to bring it together. What's the deal with getting hub branded kit - costs, how we go about it etc?
  20. Count me crazy then .... that's the one I have set my sights on (quite possibly a big mistake!)

  24. Yep - I suspect MapMyRide may offer download too from what I remember. Just sent support email to Strava to see if there is a way, or if they plan this feature
  25. Can't see a "download" on Strava ... MapMyRide - my account is old/stale and has no rides, others may be able to try that one for you. Garmin Connect - looks like I can find someone else's local route, and save that as a Course in my own profile. So that's a yes I think. I guess the focus of Strava is more online comparisons - not sure why they don't allow a download though. They do have a "privacy" option that screens sections near your home, so perhaps that's the reason. Although they could easily allow download of routes not passing through there.
