  1. My helmet took a heavy hit when I went crashing to the ground. Inspection revealed there werent any cracks. Only indentation where it made contact with the ground.

LBS says the helmet is still good for use as there werent any cracks. What's your feelings on replacing helmets ofter a crash?

Bear in mind that the fall was hard enough to break my collar bone.
  2. The Crank Brother Candy pedals are also a very good option to consider. I found them much easier to clip in and out of than the Shimano SPD's. They also shed mud better.

What I did find is that there is a more float to the Candy's than the SPD's and that is something to get used to. But since this is your first set of clip-ins I would recommend the Candy's before the SPD's.

What sort of price am I looking at for these?
  3. So i'm ready to move onto getting me some pedals, cleats and shoes for my MTB. These things (like all other equipment can be rather costly).

LBS can sort me out with decent entry level stuff that is reliable and long lasting but wont break the bank.

Shimano pedals and cleats - R350. They are adjustable

    Olypic shoes - R770

Any thoughts? What should I be looking out for? Any advice would be great.

  4. Coming from someone with experience - please dont buy a dunlop or similar from those retail stores. Goed koop is duur koop.

Up your budget a bit. Silverbacks are god value for money. You could get a new Silverback Oakland for less than R2500 I think.
