  1. Is that the one they used for the last Regional a couple of weeks ago?
  2. I know Groenkloof and Fountains well as we ride there every other weekend......and let me tell you that groenkloof is a tar road with some potholes in it compared to what I saw/rode this weekend. Do yourself a favour MarkStockton....get your ass down to Giba Gorge and go drink from the Giba trails cup..........the kloof will never be the same again....
  3. I did plenty (8 years) on the road before quiting all together. I'm back on the bike now (10 years later) and spent the weekend @ a bike park in Pinetown called Giba Gorge. All I can say is get off the road and go ride at one of these parks, sure we had a couple of injuries but nothing that a bit of Mercurochrome and some laughter could not sort out, it will change your life!
  4. I spent the weekend at Giba Gorge with a couple of mates to ride and catch some of the UCI World Cup in PMB while we were down there. The WC rocked but we nearly did not make it as we could not get of the trails! Are these the best trails in SA or is there something closer to JHB/PTA that could compete with what Giba Gorge has to offer?
  5. Thats why I bought a MTB....stay off the road guys!!
  6. A couple of us from JHB are going to be staying @ Giba Gorge for the long weekend. Lots of riding and will go check out the 4x and downhill finals on Sat and Sun. You guys/gals are welcome to join us for a roll on Friday, Saturday and Sunday morning.
  7. MK's work great in mud. They will find grip in places you wont believe. Big traction when climbing muddy hills. Just make sure you have sufficient frame clearance on the rear if you run a 2.4. It tends to collect mud and start grinding away at your frame. Mother Goose2009-04-01 04:22:09
  8. Just behind yellow......
  9. Thats good news Thumper as I am about to go and dump R700 on a tire and dont want to be doing it every week.....!!!!! Getting the UST 2.4.
  10. They are cheap as chips!!! Just a pity about the shipping......puts it right back into LBS price bracket.....
  11. CRC.....??
  12. Thanx. I'll give em a bash and see how they go. Appreciate the help.
  13. Thanx Tnose. Any idea where I can get a set and what I should be paying for them??
  14. My bike also came with a set of Kenda Komodos and they did last longer but just don't offer the levels of grip and confidance that I get from the Conti MK's. A flat I can deal with.....a ripped sidewall 25km from where I parked my car is a bit of an issue!!!
  15. I currently run Mountain King 2.4's on my bike and LOVE them. Problem is I have been ripping sidewalls on a regular basis. My local bike shop reacons I should upgrade to the UST (!?!) version of the same tire. The thing costs 3 times as much as the ones I am using!! (R680....) Are they really that much stronger?? Can anyone recomend a strong high grip type tyre for all mountain/freeride style riding that won't leave me broken down at the side of the trail on a regular basis!
  16. Morning. Anyone here ridien/owns a Giant Reign?
  17. Morning. I have been offered a brand new 2007 Giant Reign 1(the green one) at what I think is a good price. A new one is round $4700 (US) so I won't be buying one of those just yet!! Has anybody ridden one of these things and is there any good reason why I should NOT buy this bike??
  18. HEHEHEHE!!!! School fees my friend........ I suppose everyone is an expert at tubeless this and tire liner that!! XC=fitness Freeride=FUN .....pretty much over/down/through whatever the trail throws at me!Mother Goose2009-03-30 06:24:30
  19. Tubeless.....hhhmmmm. You guys reacon it's the way to go? I don't quite know why I don't like it but is it better and why? Can I use it on any set of rims? I don't think my rims are of the "tubless" variety.
  20. Dude......I can change a tire/flat in under 2 minutes!!!! Plenty practise..I'll check out the GEAX range. I'm considering some serious 1kg+ downhill rubber to see if that changes anything!!
  21. I run tubes. The Mountain kings I run @ 35-40psi and I run the Kendas at about 30-35psi. Places we ride (twice a week) Logwood (when it was still open....), MTN Cycle Park, Northern Farms (yawn), The Spruit (Melliville to Morningside and The Kloof in PTA. Most regional races in Gauteng and every other race/fun event we can. The one in the picture blew out 200m from my car after a 40km ride. (20 out and 20 back). Lucky I quess, but it is getting frustrating. I rode the Kendas (they came with the bike) for about 3 months and then bought the Mouintain Kings. Traction and confidence wise probably the best tire on the planet! Then the blow out. At first I thought it was the rim that was too thin for the 2.4, but then the same happend with a MK 2.2 and now with the Kenda's.
  22. Thanx for the advice and the welcome Big Ben!! You are right about those Kendas dude, I also thought they were bullet proof but alais....... I have a little clan that all have pretty much the same bikes and we all have the same issue. Some more than others I might ad.... The problem is that the tire seems to be seperating from the steel lining right on the edge of the rim. It is happening all too often on too many bikes in our clan to be "normal"....
  23. Hello all. I have had plenty issues with sidewall tears on my bike. 2 x Continental Mountain King 2.4's. 2 x Kenda Komodo's all in the space of about a month. It only happens on the rear and I am running out patience and money. Any tips???
