  1. Big up to Zululand cycles. They carry parts. All sorted
  2. Just discovered my rear shock loses air. Assume it needs a service and new seals. Problem is I leave for berg&Bush on Thursday and the LBS says they need to send the shock to Cape town. They will try give it a clean and change the valve. Anyone know where I can get service seals in Ballito/Durban area? Hoping someone will carry them as I assume they must be a common serviced item.
  3. yes thanks, the Charity is registered. Happy to add more people but we got the minimum required number

  5. OldBull got your entries will add to the list
  6. Hi All, My company has a Charity trust which supports a number of Orphanages and this year I'd like to enter the charity into the 94.7 charity bonds group. In order to register with 94.7 as a charity bond we need 20 cyclists. This is the first year we will register and we need to attract riders so there will not be any mandatory fee or minimum amount needed to be paid to join. There will be a voluntary donation if you so choose. Check out the charity here: http://goldertrust.org/ The way it works: We need the ID numbers of 20 riders who have already registered to ride the 94.7. We will then submit this list along with our application (on 21st August) and once registered all the riders will be seeded in the Charity bond group. As I understand it the charity bonds have a preferential start time. If you would like to join the Golder Trust Charity please send a PM with your name and ID number once registered and I'll add you to the list. I need this by Friday 18th... I currently have 12 riders so need 8 more to meet the minimum requirements... but the more the merrier !
  7. this is exactly what happens. the advise I got was if it gets sticky you can pore water on it and it'll relax...
  8. problem is it's apparently it is not just an o-ring its a cone-shaped rubber washer...
  9. where did you get these from? Shamano says they do not supply spares and recommends the bikeshop doesn't try to service the brake leaver..
  10. I would guess only about 3000km on the brakes...
  11. Hi All, So I just got back from Sani where I ended up riding 1/2 of day 2 and day 3 with only a rear brake, not great. So this is what I experienced. I have Shimano XT brakes, recently serviced at cycletech. About 50km into day 1 I realized my front brake was tightening up as I was riding but pushed through to the end. Asked one of the local mechanics to take a look. day 2 the decent was fine but then started tightening again. by the 70km mark there was zero play in the lever and the brake was tight on the caliper. flipped the bike over and manually opened the calipers. I then rode the rest of the way to the sea without the front brake. it worked when I needed it but if I used it I would need to stop within a few minutes to manually open the calipers to release the brake pads. Basically the brake would not release once used and the leaver would take earlier until there was no play when braking. It back in the shop and the feedback I have gotten is it is a problem with the lever and shimano don't carry spares so I need to replace by brakes...? for now I've opted to just have hem cleaned up and see how it goes but with Dusi2C in 3weeks time I don't want to have a repeat of my Sani experience. Any advice?
  12. So weather is looking good for the Trail event...
  13. I see the route profile and descriptions are up on the sani website. it seems that the Nandoes Climb and Push of a climb have been excluded in the new route alignment...
  14. looking at google there is a route option which may be a possibility. When you cross the river at the clover truck you turn left on the district road from there the new route could possibly head straight over cutting out the Nandos climb and push of a climb. its about 3km as suggested... only time will tell
  15. As HOEKVLAG said. you only receive your clothes at registration and then there are a lot of people looking to trade so you'll probable come right on the day.
  16. im going to run the same this year
  17. also enjoyed doing the odd Babba's when the race calendar was quiet... pity was also good training rides leading up to Sani...
  18. I know there are a few projects running simultaneously. I received notification about a month ago that the environmental authorization was granted to commence with the upgrades...
  19. some venues and bike parks rent bikes out by the day. I know you can rent a bike at Red Barn, Northern Farm and the PWC Bike Park, even Sondela hires bikes.... cant be sure on the quality though, I suspect entry level bike that have taken some beating...

  21. Agree! Lots of work needed to maintain after these rains. Some big washouts, dislodged bridges and overgrown vegetation. I also haven't contributed in a little while so will also do so now. I'll dig out the banking detail and post them for everyone.
  22. Great race, nice and wet but at least the weather was dry and even had a little sun. Only had to put my foot down once maybe twice as a result of mud, all ridable. now to clean the bike...
  23. I've only done a few races there (maybe 4 or so). In October last year there was also a race afer a week of rain and I was expecting It to be bad... it wasn't. Modderfontein has quite a steep topography with two or 3 confluences in the valley. 90% of the course I rode last year was elevated with mostly quick draining granite outcrops. There is a section in the valley where you traverse the wetland for about 1.5km then cross at a bridge and come back down the other side in the wetland/reeds. this section is about 3km long and the only place I would be concerned about. that being said this section can easily be excluded if the race organisers wanted to. on the rest of the trail im sure there will be muddy puddles but nothing too hectic.
