  1. Fantastic news! We can all do with some basic knowledge and some of the cycle shops will definitely benefit from qualified mechanics.
  2. I guess trying to fit XT shifters to Avid matchmakers will have the same fitment issues? Currently have SRAM but looking to switch to Shimano shifter to go 1x10 (only cause I have a long cage clutch rear deraillieur).
  3. Thanks for the advice. It was 2012!
  4. Need to service my fork, but oil volumes changed between the two years. Anyone know how to tell the difference between the two models? There was a change in the damper design and stantion length. Guy at Cape Cycles explained how to use the manufacturing code, but the linebwas not great.
  5. Small saddle bag on a mountain bike is called 'efficiency' and trust in your equipment. You only take 2 bombs and some plugs along for those 4 hour rides (if that was a road bike, it would be a different story)
  6. Thanks Spoke101. Unfortunately, it is not that specific 1-bolt system - the clamping mechanism is very different.
  7. Bought this seatpost from a fellow hubber, but cannot find the rail clamp torque in the Ritchey manuals. They only have the 1-bolt mechanism that works differently. The one in the photo has two cones that fit into the seatpost with the outside clamps pressing them inwards and clamping. Anyone knows what the torque should be?
  8. I see there is a tar road tonthe top of Mariepskop. Is it open to the public? Planning a trip to Swadini and also interested in knowing if there are some MTB routes around.
  9. I agree with your last comment droo - think they needed a "weak" spot to ensure something fails quickly. I used the plastic dust cover from my previous BB, shaped it to the correct thickness and used it in "reverse" as a spacer to keep the plastic cover from moving. Seems to do the trick but really wanted a better engineered solution!
  10. Thanks USXORF. Guess I'll give Cape Cycles a ring; although I'm sure the standard BB also comes with a small retaining lip. For some reasing it does not last - second BB in 3 months! Newboy: Which ceramic BB did you get?
  11. Are Shimano and SRAM the same thread size, axle diameter, cup width etc? I run X0 cranks.
  12. I have just serviced by BB due to a creaking noise. I found that the plastic dust cover on the drive side actually comes out of the BB cup leaving a gap of approx 4mm for dust etc. to get into the bearing. This is the second consecutive BB that suffers from this. As the dust cover also acts as the "spacer" between the axle and bearing, there is play on the axle / bearing interface. The bearing is still OK on this BB, but the previous one failed because of this. I now space the gap between the plastic duct cover and crank to stop it from coming out. Anyone else come across this? Any other BB brands (besides Chris King) that will not do this?
  13. Excellent! Will hit the dirt on Saturday.
  14. Thanks. Have you cycled there recently?
  15. Anyone riding in this area this coming weekend (17 August)? Looking to ride from Mountain Sanctuary Park over Breedts Nek and back - not sure if going alone is an option. Stefan 083 461 6738
  16. Where will the results be posted?
  17. Thanks for the feedback; stepped headset it will be. I suppose I will reconsider if a good deal comes along - as always!
  18. Any technical reason for that comment? They are not that easy to find on the hub, but I have considered it.
  19. I am getting a new 29er frame with a taper headset and have a fork with a straight steerer tube. I know that you can fit an adaptor to get the fork to fit into the 1.5in headset. What are the downsides (if any) in using such a setup? I know that with a taper tube comes additional stifness, but is it worth the R5,000 to upgrade?
  20. Is it possible to remove the white surface on carbon seatposts where it has been inserted in the seat tube? I bought a Truvativ Noir 400mm post that was inserted 180mm and I need the full extension length. The problem is the aesthitics of the dull, scratched section that was inserted in the past. Any ideas?
  21. Does the KMC work with SRAM 10-speed (and the Powerlink)?
  22. icycling does seem well priced - TACX Flow trainer at R3,750 which is cheaper than CRC delivered in SA. I am in the market for a TACX and just thought I would put it out there; the website seems to not work very well. I generally use CWC and Buycycle and have found them both very efficient and my on-line store of choice!
  23. Anyone tried www.icycling.co.za yet? They have some good prices on certain items - lower than CRC with VAT included.
  24. Will have to save up first!
  25. OK - I'll stay with Campi and keep the Italian spirit going! I've only ridden 105 and cannot comment on the Campi performance. One thing is certain, the thumb shifters are much faster than the Shimano and the carbon brake levers really look the part!
