  1. One of the best organised races on the calendar but a question for the organizers: Those rumble strips on R557 at crossing with R551 are really terrible - of the bone rattling, wheel breaking kind... Any possibility to get some conveyer belt strips out there?
  2. Never ridden in the area, would appreciate if someone has Strava files available, would like to have a look at segments, gradients etc. Thanks
  3. Provision for boomed-off areas are made in terms of the Rationalization of Local Government Affairs Act. A committee of the neighborhood has to re-apply with the Local Authority (Usually every 2 years) for permission of restricted access. They may control access but not prevent access. My suggestion is to bypass security company and rather chat with chairperson of the neighborhood committee. Let them sort it out with security contractors. He will most likely go out of his way to accommodate you, if not, you have right to object with Municipality which will impact on their next re-application. As you said, problem with one person, not really security concept - should be sorted. Good luck
  4. Good organising, great event. This one will grow... Some random Pics on Team @Slab Facebook page.
  5. Date I have is 9th June 2012 - think - I got it from CSA's site
  6. Okay, the Receiver of Revenue smiled upon me this year... Need help deciding between Campag Shamal, Fulcrum Race Zero and Easton EA90 SLX. All 3 wheelsets similar in weight & price. Will be used mostly for training but must be good allrounder for occasional race as well. I'm 63Kg, do about 800-1000Km/month. Bike - Specialized Tarmac, Campag Chorus 10Spd groupset Mtb'er of nature and any help/ experience with these wheelsets will be appreciated.
  7. Make your way to Rietvlei in Alberton. Great MTB riding there. This weekend (Sunday)is Provincials, next weekend, Nationals, check it out
  8. +1 For service & Good prices - I'll be back
  9. Now I know why it's called Rant & Rave - it's so easy to Rant... My fault - did not provide extensive info. I've also had a few PM's and will try to address some of the issues: The way the sponsorship (Assistance!)is structured will in no way be to the detrement of bike dealers. The main sponsor (One who gives MONEY) wanted a big name to be linked with the team. The opposite is true, the bikeshops will benefit in the end with more riders getting out on their bikes. Age of the riders - The top 10 racing team that will benefit most will probably be youngsters with no work or good source of income. Develop them with assistence. Sponsors want podiums for exposure of their brand and performance will be encouraged and rewarded. Saying all of that, remember that about 100 riders will be kitted out for brand exposure. Although not in top 10, performance will still be monitored. Age is therefor not a limiting factor and if all goes well next year the racing team might look completely different. The intention is alround good and furter queries are welcomed.
  10. I'm assisting a friend who's sponsoring a new team. We're inviting CV's of interested guys, and especially girls. It will be a development team where no salaries are paid but the rider will be rewarded for performance and issued with kit. We have one of the biggest Cycle houses on board and their name is also part of the team's name. The cyclist will be able to buy bikes, gear etc. at GREATLY reduced prices, service the bike etc. Believe me this is a spezial deal. We're loooking to kit out about 100 Cyclists but only the top 10 will be known as the racing team and will be able to make use of the advantages from our Cycling Sponsor (Bikes etc) The sponsors are committed and if the first year is a success, the team will continue perhaps until 2015. After next year, the Cycling house have indicatedthey might be much more involved and then make sure that all the riders have same, decent bikes! (This year was a bit late and they spent their budget) The emphasis is on Mountainbiking but if you want to do races on the road/ track, it will also be encouraged. The area from which we're hoping to draw interest is the greater Pretoria and Jhb areas. Kindly PM me if you're interested.

  13. Yip, c'd & p'd. Download the document - makes for interesting reading: My link
  14. From CSA's Website - SA-MTB Race Regulations: Section 1.9 dealing with Equipment: " 1.9.2 Bicycles must use a wheel on both front and back for all disiplines of Mountain Bike competition that is no bigger than 26 inches. Mountain bikes using two 29” wheels may now also be used."
  15. Had to service them after about 18 months of hard racing & training. Easy to service yourself. Get the bearings, a circlip pliers, download the "how to" and off you go. Go get them!
