  2. Agree. Bekker School was the last straw for me too. And having Hekpoort inside the first 20km completely ruins the race.
  3. I thought they could've created 'staging'/pre-loading areas to prevent that huge bottleneck. And having alternate groups filtering in from two entry points (like they used to have) would've helped. But, let's give organisers the benefit of the doubt. First year with the new layout...
  4. Climbing isn't "harder" in the Argus. Main thing that affects finish times is the extra distance: 108ish on Garmin (for practically everyone I know on Strava/rode with) vs 93ish on Garmin for yesterday's exploits (same "methodology") Only three big climbs, sure, but two are in the second half. Top of Suikerbossie is just shy of yesterday's finish distance, with still another 15km to go. Still ±20 minutes riding, even if you're pinning it.
  5. Won't be swapped back. Staying this way, as far as I know... Gets all the important suburban roads open a lot earlier and lessens the moaning from all those residents. Having Jan Smuts closed all day, as used to be the case, creates a lot of problems. Not really a major issue if M1/R55/Summit stay closed a few hours longer (especially since R55 was contra-flow at Woodmead so the shops could trade).

  7. Basically the top of Fox Hill (12-15km into the race) as you turn left. Dodgy stretch runs for another ~15km.
  8. One thing that struck me yesterday is that, with the reversed route, there'll be practically no spectators from the Zoo all the way to the finish... Going to make for a very different atmosphere, especially for the late-starters/second-lappers.
  9. Accommodation and return flights booked before everything ends up costing triple... Will sort out the entry next month. Will be my first one!
