  1. Thanks very much, that explains it, must keep a better look out for the signposts and not just start somewhere along a trail. :-) And here I thought choosing the correct bike and riding it, was my biggest challenge- I clearly have a lot to learn :-)
  2. Ok, so it was on the R540 (Kromdraai Rd - Lanseria), near the Lion and Rhino Park, there is a trail which runs parallel to the road. Don't want to start my new hobby off by causing accidents!
  3. Hi Newbie, so need to know what the correct etiquette is, if you are travelling in the same direction it is keep left pass right. If you are coming in opposite direction on the same trail, my assumption would have been, pass one another on the right (as you would driving a car), but this weekend (my first ride) someone said "wrong side" and now I'm not sure. What is the correct etiquette?
  4. Thanks guys, tried it, loved it and the 930 is parked in the garage. Your input made me far more comfortable with the plunge.... :-)
  5. Just got my first MTB, Scott Aspect 930. Very chuffed! Took my first ride after 10 years and it was awesome...
  6. Guys, some percpective here, don't grumble about a race....yes you have trained and geared yourself up for this (financially and otherwise), but look around your home, losing that is of far greater consequence. Some perspective is warranted. Planning can't take in to consideration "acts of God or Smokers" we'd never get anything done. This is bigger than the cycling community, read about the generosity towards a guy called Scott in 2013 by this community....was expecting more rallying around the local community by the race supporters?!
  7. Thats great to hear, I'm even starting to get excited again. I was so disappointed when vbike only had the Aspect 610 in an XS, thought I was going to have to wait a good while til I had a bigger budget.
  8. Thanks guys, your feedback is greatly appreciated. I really can't make a mistake on this one. With my budget, the list of decent new bikes to even consider is very limited. So I will be going on Friday to see how it feels, provided that's all good, I will take the plunge.
  9. Moderator- have reposted this in the bike room, please delete this post (buyers guide)
  10. Ok, it's the question all newbies pose.... Please can I have your opinions about the Scott Aspect 930 (2014) http://www.vitalmtb.com/product/guide/Bikes,3/Scott/Aspect-930,13565#product-specs Rider type...woman (height 5.5), newbie, will mainly do leisure and a few pavements but if the bug bites.... Is a 29" good, bad or inconsequential for a girl newbie? After discount 6k?

  12. First time posting and wanting to get my first bike. I saw this special and desperately wanted to order but they only have an XS (15") it is just a bit too small, I thought I'd share it. Scott Aspect 610 -2013 for R5999.99 - new. http://www.vbike.co.za/scott-aspect-610-2013/ No, I have nothing to do with vbike, but from other posts I've seen they are reputable. It seems like such a great deal, just not available in a small. Maybe another newbie on a tight budget or someone looking for an XS, could benefit....
