  1. Best self defence system I came accross so far!!! Just a little to big to carry on the bike, pitty!
  2. You cant go wrong with the red metal 5's, I have a set thats two years old, and all I needed to replace only once so far is the bearings. (this will go for any hub)
  3. Unless it is between dawn and dusk, visibility is at least 150m, it is safe to do so and you have moved over to let other vehicles past (a pretty much permanent state for a cyclist). I stand corrected, but this law only count on NON Highway roads, highway always have two lanes.
  4. Dischem in boksburg had 5 bottles before the weekend, I bought 2.
  5. I would say fit, he would say not. We done the 3 towers an were 18th overall, 5th in Sub vet cat. He is 39. Dont have 94.7 time to compare, but on a mountain bike he would be able to do a sub 3:00
  6. One Sabie Experience entry up for grabs. Have entered and wont be able to make it, my partner will still ride and want someone fairly fit to take my place. If you are intrested please send me PM. I have also paid a deposit at Merry pebbles carranvan park for Accom if interested.
  7. Thx, for the info, not exactly what I was after but it helped. Recieved a new frame from LBS and had to pay in - pretty disapointed but wanted to make the problem disappear. New frame either 09 or maybe 10 not sure, doesnt have the gusset and seem to be much better welding, also have a little hole on tube which indicate the maximum height saddle can exceed.
  8. Just to put things in perspective for you, I have started training (MTB,ing) after a layoff of approx 14 years (Mid 20 to Late 30). Turned 40 last week. Starting @ 102kg now 80kg. I never go out without my HR monitor, could get my HR up past 200 in the begining, Now I K@K to get it past 190. This took me 2 years to accomplish. As one of the other hubbers said, forget about your HR, you will learn where not to go, and if you go there for to long, worst that could happen you will fall over, if you mannage to keep it there. I can tell you this, depending on how good and fit you want to get, there is just one way, Cycle and Cycle hard, for as long as possible, 3 weeks hard one week slow. Enjoy your firts 6 months to a year, loose a couple of kilos, and then worry again about your HR, get use to the fact that it will sky rocket in this period.
  9. Tommorow morning (Sunday) @ 5 am, should also be a group at 6 but dont take my word for it.
  10. Hi, Anybody knows what year model the Mongoose Canaan frame came with the cusset welded between the top tube and seat post? Was these factory fitted cussets or were they recalled and sold as new frames the next year? Also have anybody ever seen a brand new bike been sold with two diffrent colors on the frame - front one color and back triangle diffrent color? Seems a bit strange to me, escpecialy if the two colors are very close, matt vs clossy. any help will be appriciated. thx
  11. You should be able to plug this one from the outside; there is different size plugs available check your LBS. Also make sure your sealant are still OK, it needs to be topped up on a regular basis. If there are any leaks you should be able to see it with soapy water.
  12. Kamikazi, I do agree with you Flesh vs Metal - bad idea, period. I speak from experience. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Salve ? as for all your calculations the day that this is going to happen to you will be day you are doing 0 or just about and the car 120 ? Murphy?s law. Exactly what happened to me. I was slowing down to stop at traffic light, cop was accelerating to jump light. So I will continue to take my chances and have some sort of control of being hit by something I can see and react to.
  13. As for the legal side of this, irrespective of which side of the road you are one, it is not about the money for me, I can replace the bike, my life I can?t. For me it is a matter of minimizing the risk of being hit by a car, no matter from which direction. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> When I was hit by the ?Blitz Patrolie? back then a lawyer was next to me in her car and the only thing the bitch cared about was making money of the third party insurance, and I was still found to be a fault. So much for our legal system.
  14. Only when there is a lot of traffic and at certian detidicated crossings that I use everyday.
  15. Guys, Thanks for some of the insight, the only real problem I still see is the "Intersection" problem, but as one guy pointed out and what I do is to make use of the pedestrian crossing. Problem solved. Even if I am in the left lane and want to turn rigth in traffic, i continue on over the crossing, stop on the other side and make use of the pedesrtrian crossing. I still believe it is safer to go against the flow of traffic and will continue to do so if the road allow it (broad shoulder).
  16. Hubbers, I know I am going to get a lot of slack for saying this, But what is wrong with Riding on the WRONG side of the road, facing on coming traffic? Especialy if there is a broad shoulder. Please hear me out before all of you jump on me. I can see the oncoming traffic and decide if it is safe to continue being on the road. I am no broader that I would be from the back so the cars should be OK with this. I have been off cycling for nearly 10 years due to obying the rules and being taken out from behind by the the POLICE. Waking up in hospital not knowing your own name tend to change your thoughts about this rule. I want to look the F%$#* in the eyes next time I get taken out (which is hopefully never). That is the reason I own two mountain bikes and tend to spend as little time as possible on the tar, but unfortuantly living in GP you still have to contend with some tar. Just like to know why everyone is so upset when they see a cyclist on the wrong side of the road, it is most likley me!!!!!
