Sorry I was naughty, but that's a good one. Year ago I have sent the frameset for the corrosion via the bike shop I bought the frame and I thought they declined it,because Specialized and the bike shop had some issue with each other and that is the reason I took a day of from work to take itself to Stellenbosch. I honestly forgot to tell them about the squeak of the frameset and it did only cross my mind now that we talking about the after effects of the corrosion taking place on both side of the seat stay by the lugs. The frame still made a noise and all time I was thinking the sound came from the crank or from the set post.

Guys thank for opinions, but I need your expertise once again.I am sitting with another problem with the same frame. I total forgot to mention it as corrosion took over my brains. About six months ago the frame start squeaking and was in and out the bike shop to have it fix. I have send it to Olympic for a major service and the confirm that my BB and crankset is fine and everything else was fine. Two weeks on the bike the frame started squeaking again and it only happens when I am climbing. I have sent it to a specialized mechanic and he took the whole crank and BB apart and still commenting that I have a very good ceramic bearing and should not have any problems, but a week later it happen again. By that time I was training for the ARGUS and could not afford letting the bike stand by the bike shop.I got another mechanic to look at my crank area and he greased it up for the Argus. I don't know if the squeaking is coming from the crank or from the frame itself. The day I took the bike to Specialized in Stellenbosch for the corrosion/paint problem, I completely forgot to mention it to them. What do you think can be the problem. I will definitely be taking it back to them to have it check out and give me another report. Will be look forward to see what the assessment report will be telling me this time. Look for your opinion again. Could it be that the corroded area is making the noise, as I had the BB and crankset check out on numerous occasion. I actual got frustrated as a cycling buddy is riding an old Cannondale aluminum frame and no noise from his bike.

This quote taken from a international bike forum The problem the guy had with aluminum was due to galvanic corrosion and poor electrical insulation between the carbon and aluminum, not because the carbon absorbed water. Water was a factor, but would have been just on the outside surface. So, that's dumb.

I am learning a lot and with this news it becomes very much clear they should actual replace the frame within the frame warranty and not under the paint warranty as they insinuaing. I think they will be ignoring my finding and stick to there original decision. I'll still loosing out, as big brand like Specialized is not going to admit that they were wrong. Specialized fanatics and I was one of them, this is enough proof that my frame should have been replaced and not use a petty excuse of corrosion and not providing me with an explanation of what could of caused it. Is see myself as harden cyclist and with that I have always maintain and look after my equipment and making sure it gets it's regular service. Have any one heard of galvanic corrosion that only take place between carbon and aluminium. Some interesting information Carbon, corrodes, you get galvanic corrosion setting up wherever there are metal inserts on the frame and the thing becomes one huge great. Carbon corrodes extremely slow. I'd be dust before it happens. However since carbon is more cathodic, it can cause more anodic metals such as aluminum to corrode faster

Interest article I find on the web. I used to work in a bike shop that was a specialized dealer (in fact it was owned by the British Specialized importers). We had a lot of trouble with the early Allez epic carbon frames, as the bond between the lugs and the tubing persistently failed. It transpired that the adhesive used was basically water soluble, which became weak after immersion. This fault was obviously kept rather quiet at the time.

Is this part of the paint warranty or structure. I will think that corrosion will be under the frame warranty as the infected area is on the frame which cause the paint to bubble.

So I take it that you one of the people that look at there bike everyday. Atleast my car does not take that quick to corrode and it's metal where as the bike is carbon.

Let me put this whole story in perspective. I purchased this frame on the 16.11.2012 ( Less than 3 and half years old) just before DC and I only notice the very vey very small bump just more than year and half on the one side after I purchase the frame. Not knowing about corrosion can settle in so quickly, as I did not have any issue with my previous frame. The bike got regurlary service at the bike shop and they also did not notice the corrosion. Before the 2015 Argus, I was to late send the bike away for the service and decided to clean it myself and it was only then that I notice the very very very very small bump is growing . I then took it to the bike shop where I bought the frame and they send it of to Specialized to have it checked out. The report confirmed it's corrosion and that the paint warranty is only 2 years. I did not understand it , as the paint was still on the frame and the bubbles is forming under the paint. By that time the bike shop and Specialized had some issues and then decided to take the frame myself, as a owner of a Specialized product, which I specially took of from work and drove to Stellenbosch to the head office and I was basically provided with the same report, but the only difference is that the infected arear grown big and the other side is also infected, which was not on the previous report. I cannot understand how it can corrode like that, as my bike and my wife's bike is standing in the same room and there is nothing wrong with her bike.

I think that will change my frames name from Specialized Tarmac Pro to Corrosion Tarmac Pro.

Just notice on the report, they confirmed that both side at the aluminium it's corroding and I only thought it's the one side. I am really shocked.

I am sorry guys. tried to down load the report Specialized issued me, unsuccessful. The bike is at the bike shop and will ask them to send me a pic. I like some of the discussion on the causes of corrosion and have learnt alot. I might agree will some of the guys that I should have taken the frame earlier to them, but did not expect corrosion to appear so quickly and did not even know corrosion can take place between the 2 material (carbon and aluminium). I am just so shock and the infected area only got worst after the 2 year warranty was expired. It's like what happened when i had to buy 3 Willards batteries for the some vehicle just after the warranty period expired. The frame is infected where the aluminium and the carbon are joint and there is no damage or any paint that was peeled or removed in that area. So no water could have enter the raw surface or any dampness The whole concept around the paint warranty does not get to me, as the paint is very much on the frame only the bubbles is forming under the paint. To all the Specialized guys, I think the product is not a bad one, but this kind of issue what the brand needs to look into better the product to avoid corrosion future problems, because it could happen to any one of us. Murphy's law it could happen after the year warranty expires. Guys firstly, as I mention previously, I am not look for a new frame and I'll except if they can fix the problem or provide me with a 2013 Specialized Tarmac Pro frameset just to put me the same position. I must admit that I did my faster Argus on this bike, but now I am afraid to ride it hard, as don't know what to expect coming down Suikerbossie.

Giant bike was standing in the same room and had no problems with corrosion. In the warranty, corrosion is not evens mention in the policy, because it should've be a problem, because of the material that been used. I did not even know the word corrosion exist when you buying a carbon product. You expect things like this to happen to your aluminium frame (metal) or was I stupid to think it can't happen to a carbon frame.

Mine is also squecking and don,t know the source of it and then I am sitting with corrosion the possible which Specialized don't want to replace.

The bike was standing in a room and the wheel set was eastons ea 90 slx and a set of Mavericks sl.

I did not expect any corrosion issue within this short period coming from well know brand like Specialized. I am not expect them to replace my frame with latest 2016 frame, but only to fix it or to replace it with a 2013 frame, just to put me in the position when I bought the frame. I do have insurance on the bike, but they will not replace the frame due to the corrision and will look at as a manufacturing error. I am current in a position where I basically lost R23 000 and nothing to so for it.

Would not expect corrosion to settle in so quickly and not expecting it to come from a bike brand SPECIALIZED. They did not evens tried to accommodate me or offer to fix it. I am not asking them to give the latest 2016 frame, just need to be in the position prior the corrosion even if they offer me a replacement 2013 frame again, l'll exempt it gladly. I agree with some of the readers that they got a very good product, but with that they should have good service to. No one is going to expect that any corrosion will take place so soon and I spoke to a lot of cycles and they all agreed that Specialized could of offered to fix it or replacing the frame.
