  1. I do believe the answer to your question lies in the first three words of the story... "Following a request"
  2. Seems a harsh assessment of a pleasant event. The water tables were perfectly adequate (ice is not a requirement - but a nice-to-have) and staffed by cheerful and friendly people. The food post-race was ample; as was the cold beer. The event garment was excellent. The three days were all different and interesting to ride; and R620 for three days of car drop-off is not unreasonable. All riders were pleasant and seemed to be enjoying the laidback nature of the race. Personally, medals are a waste, but if you like them, then so be it. I'd rather have the lekker sweater. All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable three days.
  3. Definitely one of the stronger fields assembled; a winner will be tough to pick. Coming off the 2016 Olympics, though, you have to back Nino Schurter to give it a full go. Not sure Sauser can keep up with Kulhavy for 8 days. My pick for the win; the Topeak crowd or the Olympic champ. Robyn de Groot (strongest rider in the ladies race, no doubt) and Sabine to take the ladies title.
  4. This is an excellent initiative. Well done, Cape Epic! I'm sure those tents will come in handy for both the Red Cross and Gift of the Givers. It's also pleasing to hear that event wants to focus more on the communities it passes through - hopefully lots of good will come from this mindset.
  5. Chum, it starts and finishes on the UCT rugby fields and goes through the singletrack built on university grounds.
  6. Forza Italia! Epic should be interesting this year with Sauser "retired" from competitive racing. A new winner will certainly keep it fresh.
  7. Seems like a fine pairing - Reid looks like the real deal and will be great to see another South African vying for a podium spot at the Epic.
  8. Haven't done this race, either, but sounds like an awesome weekend - how does it compare cost-wise to something like Wines2Whales. Can you get a go on the supertube at Goudini after cycling?
