  1. having a 20 year background in motorsport here is my 2 cents worth.. the problem with these commercial mass produced carbon parts is the materials used.. poor quality low modulus carbon fibre, cheap unstable resins used to bond the fibre. poor production techniques used and lack of quality control.. and then when you do buy a genuine quality part that is almost unaffordable it is advised that you replace the part every three years.. carbon is extremely stiff for its weight but has poor impact resistance characteristics.. normal fibre glass is far more impact resistant than carbon fibre but 5 times heavier...from what i have seen i will not have a carbon fibre framed bike or use any carbon parts on my ride.. aluminum for me thanks.. i am 105 kg and my current dual sus full ally weighs 12kg.... its light enough for me.. for all the 65kg racing snakes out there carbon may be the answer.. but beware
  2. yes it is a 26er... with bigger wheels..... and.... over R10000 rands worth of worth of extras that your so called noob may not have...
  3. unfair?? in which way do u think i am trying to be dishonest or hide anything... or would another poorly looked after unmaintained bike with heaps of mileage on it with entry / mid level components and no extras be better just because it has the factory wheels..if u spent less time trashing other people's posts and more time researching the subject as i did you will clearly see that the 650b conversion is a very common and popular option.... i have a motorsports engineering background and if i felt in anyway it wasn't a sound conversion on my personal bike then it wouldn't have happened

  6. i would be careful about publishing peoples names sponsors names etc on an open forum bashing and slating people and events and organisers sounds like a lot like a medieval witchunt to me...
  7. my ks lev 272 has been an awesome addition to my ride i find the 100mm drop more than adequate.. and it is one beautifully made bit of equipment the quality is second to none.. pricey i know but in the end you really do get what you pay for...
  8. I found a very interesting article on the internet ... this guy really knew what he was talking about ... sheldonbrown.com \ wheelbuilding or something like that he really explains it in depth .......definitely worth a read before you get stuck in jus my 2 cents worth ....
  9. Mus be a safe place to ride ...imagine how bike jackers will be dealt with , f@#& yeah , only days ago I read how a 2 year old was torn out of his father's arms by 2 dogs and killed whilst the father hit the dogs with bricks ..nothing could stop them . so now imagine this happened at Van Gaalens .could you imagine ?? It would have been national news child bitten dead whilst on picnic ... could you imagine ?? By reading the response from Van Gaalens and reading the comments of people who were not even there ......yes I agree its a tough one that the public witnessed it and especially a child but how are the parents going to deal with something more serious like if their child witness a person being shot or dying in a car accident which they probably have seen a hundred times in movies or on television..... I believe the owner refused to take a chance with his guests saftey and acted in order to ensure his guests saftey ..in thei report the dog / dogs were responsible for killing more than a dozen livestock killed goats and attacked sheep.. well then that dog could easliy take a child or small adult down if it attacked ., unfortunate incident I agree but I say well done to the owner at Van Gaalens I will be riding there p.s. leave your dogs at home
  10. This is also a brilliant bit of kit with helmets around costing more than double the money i think the IXS is gonna be tough to beat. although weighing in at around 350 grams it is a 100 grams heavier thay old helmet but offers far more comprehensive protection especially at the rear lower part of the skull.. ventilation and fit is excellent and was noticibly better than other helmets i tried.. wicked colours and the quality and finish and feel of the materials is awesome.. the biggest plus though is that my visibility has improved a lot one doesnt end up looking into the peak of the helmet when lookin infront of oneself and strain to look up especially after those loooong rides when one is tired. the peak also has a breakaway function should u take a tumble aswell as being removable should one wish to ride without it ... go on to the IXS website and see their story and their commitment to supply better kit at half the price of their competitors....
  11. Has to be my KS LSV 272 dropper seat post.. amazing bit of kit incredible quality and engineering.. it has transfomed my riding... i am 185 tall 105kgs and have my seat high up so my centre of gravity is high.. with the 100mm drop on the seatpost i now smash those once before sketchy downhill technical bits
