  1. Hey baldy,it's okes like you and the bigguy that make this race so awesome!!! Congrats om beating team tortoise, I hear it was a photo finish. See you guys next year. Oh and thanks for compacting our trails. Mark and I were out at 05:30 this morning, what a "slight"jol!!!! Cheers Geoff
  2. Don't worry, Mark and I don't just plot these route on a map, we actualy ride them out to see if its got the right flow. Believe me, I'm not the fittest - you will feel it, but you will enjoy it!!!!!
  3. Check out our new web site on www.mankele.co.za it's awesome!
  4. I've found my new passion, adventure racing! It was the first time I've ever done an adventure race and wasn't quite sure of what to expect. We arrived at the briefing on Friday night with the team mates and were handed maps and a list of 20 GPS coordinates that we had to plot out on the maps. Each co-ord came with a small clue. We met up the next morning @4:30 and the race began at 5:00 sharp. The first leg was a 5km jog with 2 check points and back to the start. 2nd leg 35km MTB with 8 various CP's. A normal 35km mtb ride would take us about 2 hours, but this time we were out for 5 hours, argueing about the shortest route which wasn't always the shortest. In fact most times we ended up pushing our bikes up steep fire breaks, through the grass, over rivers and around rocks. 3rd leg was a 25km run (walk / crawl). It was the toughest, most gruelling thing that I have ever done in my life, Sani & Sabie Experience are a piece of cake in comparison. It was like an emotional roller coaster, from laughing to tears every half an hour. The most fun was the adventure of having to search for each check point and hoping that you had plotted it correctly on the map or you were buggered. In total it was only 58km, but 1890m ascent!!!!! Definately one to mark on your calendar for next year. Big thanks to Werner and the gang from Passionate Adventures for an awesome event - I'm hooked.
  5. Ja, please don't go missioning into the plantations without a permit, because it gives MTB'ers a bad name and the local foresters become reluctant to issue permits for land access, for races etc.
  6. Go To www.mankele.co.za click on avalanche - results. Cheers
  7. Thanks to all the guys and gals who took on the avalanche, what an event. For a change Mark and I got the chance to take part aswell. What a flippen lekker ride, "If you snooze you looze" to all the the locals who were afraid of the rain. I must say we were lank intimidated on friday night when we saw all the big rigs pulling in. Home ground advantage aside, I managed to pull off a 9th place (YAY) & Mark 1st, so for you guys out there who think SUPER D. is just for downhillers - you are wrong. Come check it out next year, you won't be diappointed! Later.
  8. Only 5 wets have pulled out so far, still a few places open. Line entries tomorrow between 6-8. First shuttle leaves at 08:00 and racing starts at 09:00.
  9. More than likely HIGH WATER, what a joll!! It is confirmed - 2runs per stage = 6 awesome runs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. It has been raining here since Sunday non-stop. All we need is 2hours of sunshine to bake the track and it will be shweet. But for now bring your gum guard. We'll be finishing off the chicken mesh on the last 2 board walks tomorrow morning and we've made an alternative drop into the bush tunnel, just to be safe. Don't be afraid of the mud, have faith!!!
  11. Unfortunately comencal can't make it (sick in bed - poor excuse), but as for spectators, it will be similar to a DH race where you can just mission up and down the track as you wish.
  12. Only 5,5 days to go.
  13. Bump, Only 6 Days To Go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. Make sure you're at the briefing, there is a chance you'll get to have 2 runs of each stage - to be confirmed. And rumour has Comencal is bring a bunch of demo bikes down for the weekend.
  15. The next two weeks is all about preping the tracks, so be ready for the best trail riding you'll ever experience.
  16. This weekend we had some of the Gauteng boys and girls down to come and check out the Avalanche routes. I was really keen for an awesome ride so i took it upon myself to be a guide for the day. WHAT A RIDE!!!!! A BIG thanks to Damion, Geraldene & Antonio for encouraging me to do the drop off on the 3rd stage (what was I thinking!), which saw me flying gracefully through the air, landing like a pro and then loosing it in the bush & over my bars. Chafed ear, scratched arm, grazed shoulder, bruised ribs, bent cabble housing and worst of all buckled EGO. Thanks for the laughs, see you here on the 21 NOV.
  17. No,no, the question is are you going to do the avalanche????????????
  18. Stage 3. is a little shorter, approximately 4.5km, ascent 20m and descent of 260m. It consists mainly of single track, with 4 or 5 bridges, one nasty dropp off that most who have been to Mankele will know about & some hecticly fast steep descents. As for times, Stage 1. +- 18min, Stage 2. +- 10min & Stage 3. Oh man, I forgot to stop my garmin. We might be swopping some of the stages around, so please be at the briefing so that you know whats up & know your shuttle times. Later. NB. Only 76 spot open!!!!
  19. Entries can be done on www.entrytime. and is only R500 per entry. This includes a tent, mattress & a shuttle to the start of each stage. Only 100 entries available!!!!
  20. What a ride! Stage 1. is quite technical. It starts with a bit of up & down, then gets steeper and faster. This stage is 98% single track. The first half is open grass land and has a few tight corners. The second section is more rocky, with some step downs and ends off with 2 fast, steep & short sections. Distance:4.26km, Ascent: 24m & Descent : 344m Stage 2. is a bit longer and faster. The first 2km are insanly fast jeep track, and the remainder is flowing single track. This section of track takes you over a series of board walks, streams, bridges & a bushtunnel. You will definately finish this stage with a smile from ear to ear. Distance : 6.11km, Ascent : 20m & Descent : 310m. We'll be doing stage 3 tomorrow morning & let you know.
  21. It depends if you're there for the fun or the podium. A downhill rig will get heavy on those flatter peddly sections. Each track is ridable on a hard tail (not very comfortable). My recomendation is a long travel, full susser, all mountain bike eg. my BLUR LT. Mark & I are riding stage 1. & 2. tomorrow morning at 05:00am, so I'll keep you posted on distances & drop. Later.
  22. No, it's not related, but it's the same concept. Longer than a normal downhill race, but not as technical and there are some peddaly sections. Awesome, fun, amazing & wickked!!!
