  1. Anyone know if they publish the pictures from all the photographers that were out on the route? Tried Googling but only find a few official ones.
  2. Umfula. Nice spot to also kayak. Just wondering where to find some dirt.
  3. I'm camping that way from next week, just 4 km out of Parys on the western side, did you find a suitable route?
  4. Is it possible to do a normal ride at vG this weekend (Saturday morning) while the 24 hour event is happening?
  5. I may also plan to get there, say 7.00 arrival to start riding 7.15. Likely to take on about 65 km which means the strips, tannie miems, the mine, Oom Piets, then up to the Greek Church and Jou Bliksem, back via the river. I'm not hellishly fast, kind of medium speed person! What kind of distance / technicality / speed are you looking for?
  6. Did they publish pictures of riders? I've seen the usual Facebook pics etc of the main riders ... any pics of us amateurs?
  7. How do you do that ? Do you cycle from Rosemary Hill over the highway to the Bronkhorspruit Road, turn right and look for a track somewhere ?
  8. Hi, I rode this past weekend in the Rosemary Hill area and tried to access the railway line but see the land owner has closed things off since I was last there (where the red post boxes are). Any one know what the best way is to still access the railway line route from the region of Rosemary Hill ? Thanks.
  9. vG2_activity_571850488.zip And a week later I found the full mine loop and included Oom Piet's
  10. Here's a Garmin exported GPX activity file which maybe you can load to your Garmin ? I see the route I posted was up towards the mine at one point but was the day I was on my own and missed the final turning so misses a part of the loop, pay attention there and you should spot it.vG_activity_566445766.zip

  12. My first social ride at vG was done with some people who knew the routes and I'm glad I did it that way. The routes are marked but you see people all the time asking for directions and eyeing a map looking lost. Having said that, if you are sharp eyed you might be able to work it out. Or upload a GPS track from someone who has been before. I have a couple 50 km routes I've done out there and could probably work out how to export the Garmin file if you're interested.
  13. I hope this is viewable without being logged in to Strava: http://www.strava.com/activities/181091549 ... It was concrete Strips, Pofadder, down and around to the railway line, up to the mine, around to Savannah Hills, then Greek Church and Jou Bliksem, then back via the river and was 54 km. If you miss out the mine and Jou Bliksem but include Oom Piet's then I think you will still be at around 50 km. Enjoy the ride ... Wish I could also go but had my appendix out rather suddenly this past Monday so enjoying some forced rest !
  14. Hakahana is just down the road and equally good fun, if vG is closed this weekend, think I'll do a Hakahana.
  15. Classic, this is how the cable ties came out the sealed envelope ! Explanation guesses please !!
  16. Weather for Saturday ! Depends on which app you look at as usual but the Weather SA one indicates : - Friday 2 to 13 degC with wind at 31 kph - Saturday 2 to 17 with wind at 2 kph These cold fronts usually take longer to arrive than they predict ... flipping hope they're right this time and the wind disappears late Friday ... 70 km in a 34 kph wind will be like living at the coast for us Gautengers !
  17. Do you think Hakahana's opening times influence people's choice of a trail to ride ? They close at 1.00 on a Saturday for instance.
  18. I've ridden Hakahana a couple times recently, really enjoyed the mix of elevation and technical climbs / descents. Strikes me though that they are not as busy as vG ... what do some of the regulars here think about why that might be ?
  19. Is there a beer license this year ? Last year's lack of one came as a bit of a surprise ! Do we need to pack a couple in a cool box in case ?
  20. So how does the LionMan this year compare to this year's MTN nationals route at van Gaalens in terms of technical difficulty, hills, beer stops etc ?
  21. Hey Wessel, Just wondering how many batches there are each for the Marathon and Half Marathon at Hakahana ?
  22. See you there then, have also entered the marathon. I did the marathon last year, my first visit to Hakahana, I walked a few sections but still had a great experience. One of those races that you make a mental note afterwards to ride again the next year !
  23. So far MTB is winning for sure, just glad I wrote up a few years ago how to do the other hobby at www.chezwallis.com/pensans/
  24. Sorry, it posted the last message twice and I can't seem to delete this one ...
