  1. I don't know if I would trust that
  2. I'm pretty sure that the Tora is a coil shock. The Reba is not only an air shock, But a flipping good one! Crack is right. Go for the more comfortable frame geometry for yourself. (and then go for the reba )
  3. I need some 10c worth... I've got an aluminium Bianchi SL3, with Campag Veloce. I thought of upgrading to Chorus or Record, and then buying a new frame(Hopefully a 928) a bit later, maybe in a year or two. OR do I just skip the upgrade for now, and save up for a new plastic? If I upgrade to Record, will the 11spd casette fit onto the 10spd freehub? I've got a Bianchi Elevation wheelset.
  4. I would also be keen, but I don't think its worth doing it by myself. Like you said sometimes there are some dodgy looking oakes.
  5. I think you guys are right, trying to get hold of council or whoever seems to be impossible, as nobody wants to take responsibility.Although, Thanx for the tip Daft Vader. The bridge in delta park is starting to show some loose planks, will have a look over the weekend. I've been trying to get a couple of shops involved for materials, (they all think its a good idea, but sponsorships doesn't go without costings, and plans etc).I'll put a bit more effort into trying to find out what needs to be done in terms of permission, but no-one can complain if we just keep doing maintenance on existing bridges.
  6. I'm not sure what the response will be, but here goes.... I'm sure that there are plenty of hubbers in the Joburg area that loves riding the Braamfontein spruit. However, currently there are sections and bridges needing attention. Although there are a couple of areas needing attention, I think that most would agree that going up to Republic Rd is a nightmare. There are only a few riders able to negotiate through the mod, and even those that can ride it don't want to, because not everyone's convinced that it's only mud in that mess. Myself and a couple of other riders are prepared to put in some manual labour to fix up some bridges that would be a more permanent solution, as that mess hasn't cleared up for months. Two problems however: Does anyone know whether council or ward permission is required to build bridges on the spruit? And of course money.. It doesn't cost a fortune to build a proper bridge (high enough, wide enough and strong enough), but 3 riders can't carry the cost of building that. Any one interested in sponsoring some material??? or any ideas for the initiative??
  7. @00000008 Could I ask you to plot this location on the site: http://sites.google.com/site/joburgcyclingsafety/ In order to market this initiative to several other companies/organizations, i would like to provide them with some sort of pilot project.
  8. Hi Guys, As a fed up cyclist, I have been in contact with some of the tracking companies in South Africa, and the response that I have been getting seems promising. A couple of companies are working on a tracking device, they only need to get the battery pack small enough to be practical enough to use. HOWEVER, apart from the subjective feedback that cyclists are giving, there are no real data available about where and when these crimes are taking place. A response from one of the companies was that they would like to create safe zones for cyclists, but they need input about where the crime is taking place. I'd like to start an initiative where cyclists that have been targeted can plot the location on a map, including some information about the crime, for example time, nature and description of the bikes that were stolen. If we can generate the data about crime, and provide data to the relevant policing or security authorities, we might be able to have a safer ride. I need some input from you guys to see whether you think the initiative will work. I am bust setting up a website with a mapping tool, will cyclists make the effort to map the location that they were targeted at?? How many of the hubbers will make the effort?

  11. Thanx David, will definitely do that. It was a trapezium. Despite it being busy, no one saw anything.
  12. Hi all Please be informed of the posibility of crime at the van Gaalen cheese farm. Our bikes were stolen of the bike rack today (locks and straps were cut) after our ride at the cheese farm. Please be on the look-out for three bikes, the description and rewards are as follows: A white Merida HFS 3500, Brand new (two weeks old) - the reward is R2000 As well as a black Merida (Matts Miami, with V-brakes, and XT deore), and a Blue and grey Silwerback (Alpine). The reward for these bikes are R1000 each. Please be on the look-out, as we believe that this was not done by amateurs, and thus the bikes will likely be traded in or sold. The bikes were stolen today (05/09). Please also be cautious when cycling at the farm, as this is most probably an organized crime.
