  1. ? Get your facts straight..... he served time in Rooigrond for the asssault on a petrol attendant. Terre'Blanche spent 3 years in prison for assaulting a black petrol station worker - whom suffered brain damage as a result - and the attempted murder (with dogs) of a black security guard in 1996.
  2. Has the SWC 2010 just become a career ending embarrassment for Fifa's Sepp Blatter? Fifa has a problem. Its 2010 host country's ruling party plans to appeal judgments finding the slogan" shoot the boer / kill then boer" as hate speech, potentially inciting racial intolerance. At the same time its so called 'firebrand' youth leader is still spewing the outdated rhetoric - despite being interdicted from doing so - from the 'safety' of neighbouring Zimbabwe. The incomprehensibly disrespectful chant flies defiantly in the face of more than 3000 white farmers who have been brutally killed on their farms, since the attainment of SA's negotiated democracy. The slaying - with panga and knobkierie - of extremist Eugene Tere'blanche, on the anniversary of ANC activist Chris Hani's murder in 1993 has the potential to spark retaliatory bloodletting, and to abuse the SWC as an international platform to object to what has been called 'the most under reported genocide in the world'. It threatens the security of the 2010 Soccer World Cup (amongst others), unless Fifa can persuade the ruling ANC from changing its baseless, "cultural" endorsement of hate speech, and to muzzle its rabid spewing youth leader. How can Fifa allow its SWC host to endorse racist, vengeance inciting hate speech, whilst - at the same time - woo millions of 'imperial colonialists' to the shores of the 2010 SWC host country, South Africa?
  3. A Range Rover's RTI does seem like an interesting benchmark. One could discuss it at length whilst waiting for the recovery team / spares to arrive. Landrover : A car that'll take you into Africa (but you'll need a lift back home...) 8-)
  4. I wonder whether this was a 1st gen fortuner. Did an animal jump in front of it? Did the driver fall asleep, or perhaps swerve to avoid oncoming traffic in his own lane? Was a falling brick thrown from a oncoming vehicle through its windscreen? Or perhaps a tyre blew? Perhaps there was a pedestrian involved, or a log fell from a truck? Could an oncoming vehicle have made a mistake in overtaking? Heart attack? Seizure? Sneeze? A bee/wasp sting? Fallen sigarette? No, these are surely all impossibilities. It can only be 'the bouncy fortuner effect' I've heard of. Somewhere.
  5. The "Fortuner issue" relates to a fairly well publicized 'bouncy' rear response' under gravel road conditions which could - in severe situations - contribute to loss of vehicle control, on the 1st generation of vehicles. Although Toyota has been lambasted via he internet and word of mouth, nobody has been able to formally prove (or disprove) the effect. Certain modifications to suspension has been claimed to 'resolve' the issue, though, and the later generation Fortuner (sporting a different suspension setup) has been well received. According to the article the cause of the accident is not known, and it would be quite presumptuous to insinuate that this incident refers generically to "Fortuners". There is a vast array of potentials that might have led / contributed to this incident, simply assuming "Fortuner" related causes is prejudicial, nonconstructive and sensationalist.
  6. Yes, they do scratch a bit. Simply live with it, or pack the bike inside your car. I find their real hassle in restricting access to the boot. If you want something from the boot, everything must come down, and go back again. Trust me, it happens.
  7. Getting dropped is a fact of life. The newbie (unfortunately) got involved in a ride beyond her abilities - these things will happen - however, what was the point of the sweep vehicle if they didn't pick her up? Seems like the sweep simply didn't understand his/her job.
  8. With Duct tape some riders might even get stuck ON the mats...
  9. Thanks guys. Running is not for me - knees won't make it - but I take the LSD advice.* (*Combined with a Healthy Eating Plan") peloton2009-10-19 00:55:40
  10. Hi guys How would you rate a spinning session of 25min at approx 80-85% resistance, registering 8-9km traveled, having used 750 calories at an average wattage of approx 320, spiking to 505. Any comments - even wisecracks - welcome.
  11. It certainly has been a quiet tour so far: not a single doping incident. How can that be if 'everybody' is doping?
  12. OK OK, it's a bit late in reply, but here it is at least. Originally done by Nine Inch Nails, and written by Trent Reznor. It is said that when he (Trent Reznor) saw Johnny Cash's video, he said "it felt like losing a girlfriend", for the song was no longer theirs. I see TNT1 is also using words of the song as his tagline. peloton2009-07-08 08:53:02
  13. oi - Edman - "Everyone I know + Goes away in the end = Hurt (Johnny Cash)" Pray tell : is it true? (Good song, that.)
