  1. As far as I am concerned and taking all opinions into account... A comprehensive strength training program for a particular sport should consider a person's biomechanics, sport specificity and muscular imbalances which can be caused by the sport. So even if gym work may not help your performance it can help iron out muscular balances and most importantly help prevent injury especially to joints. I dont think you can debate that stronger muscles will give better support to joints therefore reducing your chances of injury. If a person does choose to hit the gym in the hope of improving their cycling performance then the exercises must be specific to the sport they are training for.
  2. Definitely take Robrider's advice on training to "Lactate Threshold" and structure your training zones around that. I would also suggest to everyone out there to read Joe Friels blog. http://www.joefrielsblog.com/ he has tons of usefull training information and is happy to share his knowledge with the general public. I am a Personal Trainer and I have learnt a lot from reading it.
  3. Hi Hubbers, I am sure a few of you out there have tried the relatively new cereal called Futurelife. Being very health conscious I checked out the ingredients and noticed that the main protein source is soy protein. I have heard a lot of bad stuff about soy protein and I was wondering if there are any nutritionists or dieticians out there that could elaborate on the negative aspects of soy protein and advise if Futurelife is even a healthy food?

  5. Dont know if this applies in RSA...Hopefully!! Love Crunchy Black Cat, Chow it straight out of the jar!!
  6. Hi I just thought I would had my few cents... I am not sure if this diet has been prescribed to you by a doctor or dietician because if it has then there is probably a good reason that I am not aware of. I really dont think that the Atkins Diet is a good option for you especially if you are doing long Aerobic type rides where Carbohydrates are a major fuel source. Apart from all the Protein that you are taking in putting quite a lot of strain on your liver Carbohydrates are the fuel for your brain. Carbohydrates are not the enemy, the key is to maintain steady insulin levels by eating Low GI, good quality, unrefined carbohydrates in moderation. I would recommend going to see a good Nutritionist but I know they can be expensive so I would suggest having a look at this site www.thepaleodiet.com/
  7. Hi I am suffering from the same symptoms as you. I injured my knee during a fall and now my knee clicks when doing normal everyday things. It absolutely kills me when I run. I can do a 1:30hr ride before it starts to agitate me so at least I am still on the bike. You either have Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome or Chondromalacia. Check this link http://sportsmedicine.about.com/cs/knee_injuries/a/knee11.htm As a Personal Trainer I understand the severity of this condition. I really would recommend that you don't ignore it because you are basically wearing away the cartilage on the inside of your knee with the friction caused by the mall tracking. This could lead to Arthritis. I would recommend that you first check your bike set up and if that doesn't help seek out a good physio to properly assess the problem. My scenario is a little different from yours in that I injured my knee but if your symptoms have just appeared then it is probably bike set up or a biomechanical problem such as weak Glutes, Vastus Medialis, Abductors, Hip Flexors or Rotated Pelvis.
  8. Thanks for the replies, I have emailed that Cecil guy to see if he imports them
  9. Hi Hubbers I am wondering if any of you guys know who the agent in SA is for Quintana Roo Triathlon Bikes or if there is even one in the country? I have googled it but haven't had much luck. Thanks
  10. Thanks Mackie, Im a big fan as well. So stocked Im going to be getting a GT full sus!! Can even wear my GT riding jersey again with pride..just hasnt felt right wearing it riding a different brand.. Thanks for all your replies makes me feel much better about it, I can change the travel on the fork but I think even with that the overall height of the forks will stay the same so still making it quite an upright bike. I am definitely not a racing snake so I think I will give it a good go and Im sure it will be hundreds toadwart7772010-05-21 05:06:58
  11. Hi Everyone My first forum, how exciting!! Another personal exciting topic is that I ordered a GT Force 2 (2008 model) on Omnico's massive sale they are busy having, I really couldn't say no to those prices. I even sold the sound system in my car to make up the cost! I am hoping that I could get some feedback from you guys on this bike, especially from people riding them. I have read all the online reviews and the bike seems to have more positives than negatives which I am happy about. My only concern is that I want to get more serious about MTBing and I am worried that I have bought the wrong bike for the type of riding I am going to be doing. I realize the bike is an All Mountain bike and is going to be superb on the single track and technical downhills but I am concerned about its climbing capabilities. I am definitely going to be doing many more longer one day events and would like to work up to Staged Events so I am a little concerned about going up hills with the bikes very upright riding position because of the long travel fork. Look forward to hearing back from you guys. Cheers
