  1. Hi Bikehub family. Hoping you can help me with this question. Recently purchased an older 2001 De Rosa Vega Merak from a hubber here. Wanting to slowly upgrade it. List of decisions: - opt for lighter wheels - carbon WHY or those amazing Campy Shamal HPW 12 Titanium bits that used to come on colnagos from the same era: >> Installed and fitted the Shamals for now - carbon bits much later... - Carbon seatpost >> To Do - Convert current mixed older 105/Tiagra groupset set up for more moodern 105/Ultegra groupset >> To Do - Convert brake calipers from older 105 to Bontrager or WHY Direct mount brake calipers >> To Do. This is where I need your advice. Is it even possible? I mean I want to believe that the fork could be modified as it is aluminium, but... - would that mess up the structural integrity of the fork? - Thinking that direct mount calipers would put the fork and rear seat stays under new pressures but is that okay? - Can I drill into the fork (it is thick enough in surface area)? Seeking your help to understand what I should consider here, Thanks, Chris
  2. Hi, I bought a road bike with Shimano 105 components and an 12-28 rear cassette. I have found that the 12 tooth does not give me a high enough speed and want to replace it with an 11 tooth gear. All the bike shops I have been to want to sell me a complete cassette with an 11 tooth gear but not just the 11 tooth gear itself. There is virtually no wear on the cassette and it makes no sense to replace the complete cassette. Is there anywhere I can get just the 11 tooth gear for the 10 speed Shimano 105? Or do I have to replace the complete cassette? All advice appreciated. Denis
  3. Hello Cyclist I need help regarding replacing my chain on my Tiagra 10 speed. I used my chain checker tool, and the tool indicates that chain needs replacement in the future (0.75) and not (1.0) at the moment. I would like to know the chain options that are available for replacement, do I purchase a Tiagra 10 spd chain or can I purchase a 105 chain. Instead of Shimano can I give SRAM a go. Power link or Chain break tool? Instead of a road chain can I make use of an MTB chain. Are MTB chain stronger and last longer? Please advise. Thanks
  4. Hi guys Friend bought one of the BMC granfondo's off the VeloLife auction. Came exactly as per online specs, except it came with an 11-25 casette which he doesn't feel ready for. According to online specs it should have come with a 11-32 casette. (As per specs below) I see online that older posts says 10 speed 105 can only accept up to a 11-28 casette? So which will work, 11-28 or 11-32? He'd like to have as much granny as possible. Thanks guys Technische Daten des Test: BMC Granfondo GF02 105 Preis: 1499 Euro Gewicht: 8580 g Rahmengewicht: 1274 g Gabelgewicht: 338 g Rahmenhöhen: 48/51/54/56/58/61 cm Getestete Rahmenhöhe: 56 cm Rahmenmaterial: Aluminium Vertriebsweg: Fachhandel Schaltgruppe: Shimano 105, 11–32 Kurbelsatz: Shimano 105, 50/34 Bremse: Shimano 105 Laufräder: Shimano WH-R500 Reifen: Continental Ultra Sport, 28 Vorbau: Easton EA30 Lenker: Easton EA70 Sattel: Fizik Aliante Sattelstütze: BMC Carbon
  5. I've always looked at posts when people asked 'how much is my bike worth' and wondered how they couldn't know a rough value. Now I'm in the same position and actually don't have much of a clue what my 2011 Shimano 105 5600 (Black) is worth on the market. It's the group set but with out the BB or crank but includes: - Brakes - 11/ 28 Ultegra cassette (+/- 400kms) - STIs - Front mech - Rear mech - Chain (sub 300kms) - Cables I'd say the condition is about 7.5 out of 10. Some scrapes on the STi's and from being knocked over by the automatic gate are the only issues. The shifting is still crisp and sharp and the brakes have Swiss stop pads. So brains trust of the hub... what would this go for? I've looked through past sales and there is quite a range.
  6. Hi guys Currently have Shimano 2300 (8spd) on my Specialized Secteur. Been riding for about 2 years now and feel like it's time for an upgrade. Have got no issues with the brakes or crank (compact), but the shifting is starting to bug me. Also would like to get a wider range cassette, maybe something like a 11-26 (13-26 current). Don't have a fortune to spend, so my question is is it worth it to upgrade to Tiagra components, or should I hold out and replace with 105's? Thanks
