  3. Hi Everyone, Me and a few of my mates are planning a 100km MTB ride from the ground cafe in Muldersdrift around Hartebeespoort dam and back. The estimated route that I got from Garmin suggested that this will be roughly 100km's, but unfortunately, with my limited knowledge and the common safety factors one needs to be 100% certain before embarking on such a journey. Have any of you done a ride in recent months to and from harties and the cradle, and what routes did you use? Garmins suggested route link below https://connect.garmin.com/modern/course/83099336 Thank you so much for you assistance in advance. Emile

  6. Anybody who rides regularly in the Cradle, will be aware of the success of the Flap Away project run by Megan, who successfully lobbied the JRA to remove those deadly lane dividing flaps. She has now turned her attention to the state of the roads and trails in the Cradle to ensure that they are as safe as possible. To achieve this goal, she needs as much info and feedback as possible, from the community that rides in the Cradle. Please click on the link below and share your thoughts on the survey. It shouldn't take more than 30 seconds of your day and could help to make the cradle safer and more pleasant to ride. Click here
  7. Hi All. I'm wondering if there is any girls interested in starting a girls group in the Cradle? I usually start from Valverde at 6:00 on Saturday's. Usually I cycle with a group of guys but they loose me very quickly. I average about 21-23 km/h, but my goal with the group would be to become a stronger rider, so I wish to better this by a lot
  8. I stay in Krugersdorp-Kenmare and would like to do early morning(5am) road rides from Krugersdorp +- 1 to 1,5 hours Current avg speed 27 after long break- hope to improve this avg.
  9. The Aim of the Flap Away Campaign Hundreds of cyclists in Gauteng join together to enjoy a ride to the Cradle of Human Kind every weekend. After a number of accidents involving the 574 Swareflex Lane Dividers situated on the D540 and D374, it is felt that safety is being compromised. The aim of the Flap Away Campaign is to gain as much support as possible to have these removed. Why are the ‘flappers’… a problem? While the initial intension was to improve safety for cyclists on this busy route it has fallen short of expectations. This has resulted in some nasty pile ups. Furthermore, limited space does not allow for two cyclists to ride abreast enabling them to stay within the cycling lane. A large number of the ‘flappers’ are broken and difficult to see. What we need from you, the cyclist We need your support in removing these hazards. Please click on the following Google link http://goo.gl/forms/ZCI4cFNJka and complete the survey. In order for the campaign to succeed, we need as much support as possible. Spread the word, share the information with club members and friends as well as ‘like’ and ‘share’ our Facebook page – ‘Flap Away’. Testimonials regarding incidents or accidents that have occurred will add impetus to our initiative. The campaign will also endeavour to gain the support and backing of the local media. In order to have the necessary impact, this campaign needs to be finalised as soon as possible. Further queries can be sent to Megan Thorpe at meganthorpe@netactive.co.za. Together, let’s strive to make cycling safer in the Cradle!
  10. Hi guy. I'm from JHB and My current trails comprise: -Van Gaalens -Heia Safari -Avianto I was hoping guys that ride these areas would take the time to post what other gems you have found anywhere from the cradle area, muldersdrift, krugersdorp to Hartebeespoort so that guys riding outta JHB can explore something new. As a starting point what happened to Kings Kloof is there anything like that still running?
  11. A very kind cyclist stopped to help with a puncture this afternoon along the lion park road just past teak place in the cradle. He left his spare tube and repair kit with us (a man and women dressed in blue ). There was a bit of a misunderstanding from our side. We were hoping to pass him again as he said he was coming back from the Lion Park. We did not get a name but he was wearing Red. If this is you, please reply to this message with your details. We would like to get your stuff back to you as well as replace the tube you gave us. Thanks Wednesday 1 July 2015
