  1. I got a new xd drive in December for my hope 4 pro and the green seal that is meant to protect the teeth isn’t sitting flat. When I spin my wheel one sided the seal always just shows and then go away on the rotation, is this normal or not? I’m just worried dirt gets in and damages the teeth and hub. If you can help it would be very appreciated. Francois
  2. Hi guys, I have done a Google search but have not been able to get any meaningful results. Can the Cannondale experts maybe point me in the right direction of a list of available/compatible hubs for a lefty 2.0 fork if I wanted to get some custom wheels built? Also, if you could chip in some opinions on which hubs you would recommend and why. Not necessarily looking for the lightest, but rather a balance of weight and strength as I weigh about 85kgs and am a bit rough on wheels. Will probably need 28 or preferably 32hole hubs. Thanks in advance.
  3. Hello Hubbers I'm looking for some guidance/advice. My rear wheel for some reason suddenly got very sticky (the hub wasn't spinning freely and its really sapping energy) Took the wheel to the LBS and they replaced the bearings. That made things better, but still nowhere near as free spinning as my other wheels (Fulcrums) They are road wheels by the way... Couple of questions: 1.) Any idea why this suddenly happend? It seemed fine when I got them (Its a Bitex road hub on wheels I got new in April and I'm well below the max weight limit) 2.) What are your recommendations for a replacement rear hub? Thinking of just rebuilding the wheel onto a "better" hub 3.) Who is the best wheel builder in JHB? Any advice/recommendations would be very welcome! Thanks and Happy Friday
  4. So my Google skills seems to be failing me and only able to get to a bike shop over the weekend... hoping for some solid BikeHub advice till then. Does anybody know of a way to fit standard AC Wide Lightning wheels (15x100) to a boost (15x110) fork? Can you convert the existing hub in some way or are there adapters available AND does anyone have experience with this / tried it?
  5. I have a customer with a Race Face hub from a 2014 Lapierre Zesty AM 427. I think it’s the Aeffect hub, but I’m not 100% sure. The pawls are worn down, and causing some slipping as they engage. So, I’d like to replace the pawls or the whole freehub if necessary. However, I’m having difficulty tracking down the part. All the listed Race Face freehub bodies I can find on various sites are for newer, different hubs. Silverfish in the UK told me that the Easton X5 freehub body would fit. Is there anyone who can confirm whether this is true or not? Or any recommended sources of information to check specs? Here are some images of the hub in question:
  6. Hi all, I have a set of 650B American Classic wide lightnings on my Giant Trance. Really enjoy them. However, I notice that as I corner, there is a feeling of vibration/juddering almost as if the discs are touching the pads or something. The back end of the bike also feels a bit sketchy - like it's "loose". Anyone else experience this and have any idea what to do to resolve that?
  7. Good afternoon, Today was supposed to be the first time I get on my bike after more than 2 months off the bike. As I took my bike out of the garage to clean off the dust I noticed the rear wheel was buckled which seemed strange because I got the rear wheel built by a well known wheel builder not that long ago. On closer inspection I noticed the hub flange broke off. What should I do?
  8. After about 15 years of singlespeeding I’ve finally got a bike with gears again. I bought it second-hand, and it looks like the chain and/or cassette are worn and will need to be replaced. It’s a 2×9 setup, and that suits me, so I’ll probably just get a 9-speed XT cassette and a couple of chains. Seems to be the best value for money option, and the gear range suits me. (I think it was probably a 3×9 originally, but the big ring has been replaced with a bash ring.) But, for the future, will I be able to just pop on a 10-speed cassette instead? (Assuming I change the derailleur and shifter too, obviously.) Or is the freewheel body spacing or spline pattern different? The hub is a Sun Ringlé − not sure which model. I’m trying to catch up on 15 years of tech development as quickly as I can − clutch derailleurs, NW chainrings, boost spacing… it’s an exciting and confusing new world! And expensive − I remember why I went singlespeed in the first place, especially with all this chain slip, bad shifting, etc. None of that with my fat BMX chains, even with really worn chainrings. Also, I assume that SRAM 9-speed is compatible with Shimano 9-speed, 10-speed with 10-speed, etc? I have SRAM X9 shifters, X0 rear derailleur, and Shimano XT front derailleur, but the Shimano chain and cassette options seem to be easier to get here and good value for money, particularly in the 9-speed range.
  9. Hi Anyone know where i can get a bearing for Mavic Kysyrium Free Hub Bearing (22mm OD x 9mm ID x 7mm Thickness). Struck out at bearing man so any help advice appreciated.
  10. Hi Hubbers, Trying to figure out what brand this hub is, need to get more info on the hub. Thanks, Dale
  11. From our very first Ti-glide hubs launched back in 1993 we've have had a reputation for producing some of the most durable and high quality hubs on the market. This attention to detail has been carried into the new Pro 4 hub range as they are a direct development of the successful Pro 2 EVO. Click here to view the article
  12. This is a precautionary note for owners of 2015 Spez bikes that share the same hubs as the Rumor Comp : A friend just purchased a low milage Spez Rumor advertised on the Hub. The bike is a 2105 model, in excellent condition and low milage as advertised. My friend brought it round to fit some pedals and give it a check. It has a 15mm TA Reba on front and I could not remove the front wheel. Prior attempts by someone else had damaged the cup on the RS Maxle. the Maxle seemed to be seized in the hub or left front fork leg. It would partially unscrew from the right leg but then went tight and would not come out of the left leg.. A firm tap with a soft mallet got it freed up and the cause became clear: The wheel bearings are not stainless steel, there is no axle in this hub as the Maxle does that duty and the wheel bearing inner races had rusted onto the Maxle. There was no grease anywhere to be seen. So I squirted the inside of the hub with grease and liberally greased the Maxle as well. At a later stage when I get a bit more time with the bike I am going to strip those cheap bearings out and put something decent in. Since there was only rust in there and no dirt I'm guessing the water got in when the bike was transported on a carrier in the rain or during washing. If you have one of these bikes be warned. There are no o rings or seals in the hub to prevent water gaining access to the axle so you are advised to use liberal amounts of grease and avoid submerging the axle in water. Also avoid spraying water from a hose when washing it. This is going to need care for the life of the bike/hub.
  13. Howzit guys and Girls, I have a pair of Easton EA70 XC Wheels and want to replace the rear hub as all I have heard is bad things about them, I have been told that Novatec makes an affordable quality rear hub but havent had a chance to ride wheels with them, Anything you guys can recommend? its a 24H hub with Q/R. Many thanks
  14. I wondered whether it is possible to source spares for a rear hub (Shimano FH-RM66 cl from a 2014 scott scale 960). Specifically I'm looking for the drive side bearing seal (see attached pictures). In the diagram I think it's the equivalent of part number 12 (I don't think this is exactly the same hub). As I understand it's just a bit of plastic that keeps dust out and grease in. As you will see in the pictures mine is cracked (in fact a piece has come loose from it) - I suspect this happened when I got a new rim put on the wheel by a cycling shop - though I'm not sure. I think that the slight scraping noise from my rear wheel can be tied back to this. Thanks in advance.
  15. My apologies if this has been posted before, so please point me in the right direction if it has. While cleaning my bike over the weekend, i heard a strange noise coming from the rear wheel. To try and describe the sound accurately, it almost sounds like the metal balls in a bearing rolling over each other. To try and isolate the noise, I even took off the back wheel and spun it while holding it, and the noise is definitely coming from around the hub, and almost sounds like the bearings dried up and are rolling over each other (if that makes sense). A bit of background, this was after riding Red Barn on Sunday where I hit the trails pretty hard, then proceeded to degrease my chain using Cleen Grean. I did spray some onto the cassette, and let it sit for about 15 mins, not sure if this has any harmful effect. At a loss as to whether the bearings are fried, what else I could do to make 100% sure, and if damaged, what the cost of replacing is. I'm a noob at this. The bike is still new (less than 100km), and it's the first time I'm hearing the noise (I always give the bike a thorough check when washing). Anyone?
  16. Has anyone used this hub in their wheelset? What is the quality of this hub like? If the wheel has been built up how much of a degreade is it when compared to the Mavic Crossmax SL wheeelset? Is it a worth while to get the hub?
  17. I have an old set of 26" Giant wheels that came with my Anthem (maybe from the USA). They run on no-name 24 hole hubs. Front wheel is still perfect, but on the rear the freebody is shot; it slips. My LBS (small town) told me it's unrepairable because spares are not available. Is this really the case? I'd love to use that rear wheel on my indoor trainer. Thanks guys!
  18. Evening all :-) I wonder if anyone knows where I might get an adapter to convert a 15mm thru bolt to a 9mm Quick Release? Just got a 2nd hand wheel with at Specialized hub (not DT Swiss) which has a15mm thru adapter in it. I actually think the native size of the hub is 20mm see images. I have a Giant STP with Fox F80 shocks and have to use a 9mm Quick release which leaves me in a pickle :-P I'd really rather not replace the hub if I can help it. Thank you. Greg.
  19. Hi all, As the title states I have no idea how to determine what my rear hub specifications are. My rear hub bearings still spin like new, but there is an off-balance somewhere with the rear wheel area. When I lift the back and step the pedal, the wheel spins well, but the bike rocks up an down slightly when holding it in the air. I tried searching the forum for hub and rear hub but to no avail. Could someone please advice me how to determine my current hub specifications and which of these are important to keep in mind when buying a new hub. I know the hub has the extra part for the disc brake rotor. It says "American Classic" on the hub I haven't counted the spoke-holes as I'm unsure if there are special things that needs to be taken note of. EDIT- added: Its a new tyre with a new slime tube (well, it rocks heavily whether I have the road slicks on or the mtb tyres). A spoke was recently replaced and therefore the whole wheel was trued.

  21. Following the discusiion on the Trek / Penske thread I thought I'd start a new one on the Boost148 "standard". Bikeradar have just published an article with more info on it http://www.bikeradar.com/mtb/news/article/trek-and-sram-roll-out-wider-axle-standard-41352/ http://cdn.mos.bikeradar.com/images/news/2014/06/13/1402615772146-ao0yv51uzn7z-320-180.jpg
  22. Hello, I've got a "sticky" front axle, and the wheel is difficult to rotate. Spinning the wheel freely - off the bike - it rolls smoothly and noiselessly. Once I put the wheel in place and lock the axle in place, the wheel is difficult to spin. If I loosen the axle a bit, the wheel spins normally. But, then it is loose and not safe to ride. What could be the problem?
