  1. Hey Hubbers, To get to Northern Farm from Randburg I ride to Fourways and then up Cedar, turn right at the top then to the Northern entrance BUT that section of road is crazy. Is there a backway / secret way to get to Northerns on the "lesser known" trails from Fourways? Any ideas? I am not one to drive to Northern, I like to bank the 25km getting there and then around a bit / play a bit and home..........I am hoping there are some options. Thanks and cheers, Craig

  4. Jo’burgers have to be the most hardcore cycling fanatics in the country as when we arrived to Northern Farm in the early hours of the morning on a very frosty Sunday 31 July for the final round of the Junior Eliminator Series there were already a number of vehicles in the parking lot of riders out on the trails! 5. Today we got stuck about 6-7km from the trail head at Northern Farm when my son's rear axle broke rendering his bike un-rideable. We walked a bit carrying his bike but thought there was no way we would walk all the way back. We googled the farm number and could only find a cell phone number for Bongani Sithole. We called him and told him we were stuck. He was very friendly and immediately offered to bring his tractor and trailer to where we were (which happened to be "Road to nowhere"). He knew exactly where that was and came to our rescue! Thank you Bongani, you were my hero of the day! I hope you get promoted soon! We gave him a nice gratuity! Bongani's rig bringing us home! 6. Just to start of, I normally not the kind of guy that would moan about a race but alas.... A friend and I decided to go ride at Northern Farms today and stumbled onto a "organized" race. We decided to find out what the race cost and the distances involved, a STAGGERING R235 for 45km!!!! I enjoy the MTN and Trailseeker series, thus paying R235 for it which is in the same price category as Dullstroom, Hakahana, Van Gaalens and Cullinun with well planned out routes, excellent water points, great goodie bags en some nice scenery, seems unreasonable. Finally, against our better judgment, we decided to try the 45km which is basically the normal route with the only exception being some gravel and rocks they placed over muddy areas for easy riding. There were 2 water points with literally only water and not even a medal when we finished. Understanding that we started late seeing that the 45km already started when we signed up so a medal was just optional... NOW, In my mind I'm trying to justify the amount of money that we spend on this race and what was on offer and I can't think of anything. I would pay NO MORE than R100 for the race and that is even being generous. Did a large chunk of the entry go to charity??? I have signed up for 10km running races that cost R40 with more on offer. Is there anybody out there that feels the same? Can one of the race organizers come back to me to justify these costs?
