  1. It's time to top up my tyre sealant and I'm wondering what the best sealant is for South African conditions? I've read online that Orange Sealant is great (although I've never seen it in SA stores) and apparently Stan's is crap. I've had some success previously with Enduro Seal. What's your experience and what do you use?
  2. Stans have released their fourth generation Crest, Arch and Flow rims featuring updated internal dimensions, an asymmetric profile and a more generous warranty. Read up on the specifications and local availability below. View full article
  3. Stans Crest MK4 - Fast and Made to Last Crest rims are part of the history of mountain biking. Introduced in 2005, the Crest's design evolved directly from Stan's earliest ideas, including the legendary 355 rims. Stan wanted a simple and durable rim that would work well without a tube and weighed less than everybody else's rims. The Crest achieved those goals. With a more durable and lighter 6069 alloy and an asymmetric rim shape that balances spoke tension, today's Crest MK4 has technology that's lightyears ahead of the early design, but the spirit of the original Crest lives on: make it light, make it serviceable, make it resist flats, and make it go as fast as possible. The BST Asymmetric rim design of the Crest MK4 allows for a stronger wheel while offering the easy inflation and Stan’s trademark unmatched airtight seal. The Crest MK4 rim is optimized for 40mm Gravel tires and up to 2.3” mountain tires, making it a great, versatile choice for a wide range of bikes and riding styles. The durable but forgiving ride of the Crest MK4’s 6069 alloy construction and lightweight, low-profile rim shape offer an unbeatable ride quality uniquely suited to Gravel and short-travel XC riding, and like all rims that bear the Crest name, it’s built for speed. The Crest MK4 combines the heritage of Stan’s legendary tubeless design with today’s best materials and a stronger asymmetric design. Roll faster with more comfort and more security on your next Gravel or XC ride with the Crest MK4 rim. 25mm rim width optimized for Gravel and XC tires up to 2.3”

With a 28mm wide asymmetric rim shape and ultra-strong 6069 alloy, today's Arch MK4 rim has evolved to match these more capable bikes. Through all the years of testing and refinement of this rim, one thing has never changed: versatility. Now more than ever, when you want a reliable rim that can handle every trail, the Arch MK4 is for you. The Arch MK4 rim is light enough to take XC racing but was born from research and testing on the Enduro World Series circuit, making it a great rim for anyone looking to improve both descending and climbing. Constructed of light and strong 6069 aluminum alloy, with a reinforced spoke bed and 28mm internal width ideal for 2.2-2.5" tires, the Arch MK4 can get you up the climbs easier and make the descent even better. The Arch MK4's BST Asymmetric shape improves spoke angle, allowing for a stronger overall wheel build. Unlike most asymmetric rims that struggle with tubeless inflation and consistent airtight seal under hard cornering, the Arch MK4's shape is designed to equalize pressure for easy inflation and incredibly strong tire retention on both sides of the rim. Stan's patented Bead Socket Technology, combined with a stronger asymmetric design, light and durable 6069 alloy, and the perfect rim width for balancing control and weight, make the Arch MK4 your best choice for all-around riding. Powering up rocky switchback climbs or slapping berms on every descent, the Arch MK4 is ready for whatever you can throw at it. Versatile 28mm internal rim width optimized for 2.2-2.5” tires Light and durable 6069 aluminum with welded joint and reinforced spoke bed BST Asymmetric design combines Stan’s legendary easy tubeless inflation with a stronger, more balanced wheel build 3-year rim warranty with 1-year crash replacement Rim Internal Width: 28.0mm // Rim External Width: 31.4mm // Rim Depth: 18.9mm // Rim Weight: 451g (27.5") / 481g (29") // Hole Count: 28-hole or 32-hole Stans Flow MK4 - Instant Confidence Since 2007, the Flow rim has been helping riders progress, push boundaries, and do more on their bikes. The original Flow was light, wide, tubeless, and strong as hell. It redefined mountain bike rims and played a role in the evolution of riding. Today's Flow MK4 continues the progression with a 30mm wide asymmetric rim designed to build an even stronger overall wheel. Durability and an almost uncanny feeling of control on the trail have made Flow rims the preferred choice of multiple Red Bull Rampage riders, and today’s Flow goes even further. The Flow MK4’s reinforced spoke bed, combined with the offset drilling of the asym design, builds into an incredibly durable wheel that brings added confidence to every ride. Unlike many asymmetric rims, the Flow MK4's BST Asymmetric shape is designed to equalize resistance to dents and tire bead retention on both sides of the rim under even the worst rock gardens and hardest cornering. Combined with Stan's patented Bead Socket Technology, the Flow MK4 rim offers the easiest tubeless setup and most reliable airtight performance on the trail. Ramp up your progression and make every ride even better with the confidence of Flow MK4 asymmetric rims. Low-profile 30mm internal width optimizes tire shape, traction, and control for 2.3-2.6” tires Durable 6069 aluminum with welded joint and reinforced spoke bed BST Asymmetric design combines Stan’s legendary easy tubeless inflation with a stronger, more balanced wheel build 3-year rim warranty with 1-year crash replacement Rim Internal Width: 30.0mm // Rim External Width: 33.6mm // Rim Depth: 18.9mm // Rim Weight: 466g (26") / 487g (27.5") / 521g (29") // Hole Count: 28-hole, 32-hole Local availability Selected 29" MK4 Crest, Arch and Flow rims are expected to be available in South Africa in August 2021. More wheel sizes will be available later in 2021.
  4. Been to Enduro at Hakahana and saw that 90% was using Tyre Juice. Spoke to Paul at Epic Sports and they now just stock Tyre Juice. Hatfield Cycles recommend Tyre Juice. They even say "mix it with No Flats (that blue stuff)" Any Comments/Feedback? I am tired of Stans as I always end up with a rubber ball in a week. No bombs, no leaks, nothing!
  5. Hi Anyone here tried making homemade tyre sealant ? where did you get your latex liquid and how much more or less for 1lt ? did you use slime (green stuff) , glitter or both ? what antifreeze did you use ? the concentrate or the already mixed versions ? anything that i might need to add or that i am forgetting ?

  7. Looking for a few more opinions / experiences with wider rims on XC specific bikes. I have a 29er hardtail: 2014 ZASKAR 9R ELITE & I've been wanting to upgrade my wheelset for a while now, specifically the width of my rims for more control and less tetchy handling downhill. I'm not riding anything extreme. Mostly jeep track with steep sections and loose gravel. My stock standard wheelset is Jalco XCD22, Double Wall, 32H. I believe the internal rim width is 19mm. I currently run Maxis Ikon 2.2 on the rear & Ardent 2.25 on the front. I've felt the handling benefits of wider rims but don't have enough cash to go for a more trail oriented dual suspension bike right now. So I'm trying to see if I can make some changes to help keep my chin on my face for the time being. That said, my bike isn't designed for wider rims and space is tight, especially on the rear. My LBS told me there isn't really any point in buying, for example, a Stans ZTR Arch wheelset with 25mm inner width because A) it's too tight and B) it's not what the bike is built for. I've attached some pics, which might help. What do you guys think?
  8. Has anyone done this? I was contemplating buying a set of Specialized Grid casing tires to run on Stans Flow EX rims (current model), then I came across this little bit of info on the web: " Not Recommend Tires WTB TCS and UST 29 inch tires are too tight for Stan's Notubes rims and NoTubes licensed rims such as Sun Ringle Black Flag. Specialized Grid UST Tires are very tight on Stan's Rims. *Use of sealant in non-tubeless tires may void the tires manufacturer’s warranty. " (off Stans own website) So now I'm a bit skeptical as to whether or not this setup is a good idea or not. I know I could choose from a bunch of other strong casing tires that won't pose a problem, but in my experience the Spez tires are pretty decent and, more importantly, are actually quite cheap compared to most other brands. Anyhow, if this is going to send the tire levers flying into my eyeballs I'd rather go a different route.
  9. Created by Stan’s Racing Development (SRD), the new high-performance Race Sealant has been designed for and tested by top racers in the most demanding conditions around the globe, and it’s now available to riders everywhere. It’s the next level of sealing power from the company that invented tubeless conversion. “When everything is on the line, this is the sealant you want in your tires,” said Stan Koziatek, Founder and Owner of Stan’s NoTubes. “We’ve worked with the pros to create a sealant that seals more quickly and more reliably, meaning less air is lost during punctures so you can get to the finish line faster.” Behind the Scenes with Stan's Racing Development (SRD) If you've ever walked through the mechanics' pits at any national or international event, chances are you've seen them: trademark Stan's NoTubes black quart bottles with no labels. If you had looked closer, you might have seen strange symbols scrawled all over the bottles with a silver marker. They were the letters, numbers and sealant formula notes of the man himself, Stan Koziatek. From cross country and downhill mountain biking to cyclocross, a passion for racing has always been a driving force for Stan's NoTubes' products. Stan's Racing Development (SRD) is a new in-house division created to pursue high-performance, race-oriented products developed and tested through the rigors of professional racing at the highest levels. SRD products are the embodiment of all of the time spent determining how to shave tenths of a second from the clock by developing the absolute best equipment that provides our athletes with an advantage on race day. Stan’s NoTubes new Race Sealant is the first SRD product we’re making available. About the new Race Sealant For more than 14 years, Stan’s NoTubes has been quietly formulating a special racing version of our legendary sealant for many of cycling's most successful teams. Working with athletes who push themselves and their tubeless systems to the absolute limit, we developed a proprietary sealant formula we call Race Sealant.Race Sealant starts with the same premium low-viscosity latex blend that we developed when we invented tubeless conversion 15 years ago. Like our standard sealant, new Race Sealant is formulated to perform in temperatures as low as -30 degrees Fahrenheit (-34.4 degrees Celsius) to let you ride where and when you want. Of course, we also used natural materials to ensure that our sealant is non-toxic, non-hazardous and safe for humans and the environment. The key difference is the amount and type of sealing crystals used in creating Race Sealant. With nearly twice the amount of our standard sealing crystals, plus additional "XL" crystals capable of sealing even larger punctures, Race Sealant is designed for maximum sealing power. The combination of new larger and more smaller crystals interlock to form a lattice work that not only seals punctured tires faster but also strengthens and reinforces them. Racers love our Race Sealant because it’s lighter, works faster, and seals even larger punctures. "Stan's Race Sealant allows us to use less sealant and get the same performance,” said current U.S. Cross Country and Short Track Mountain Bike National Champion Chloe Woodruff of the Stan’s NoTubes-Pivot Team. “Race Sealant gives us an edge over the competition because it's lighter and highly effective.” Stan’s NoTubes Crest wheels filled with the new Race Sealant. Race Sealant is different from our traditional sealant in that it must be installed directly into the tire. The quantity and size of its crystals in our new special formula will clog injectors and smaller bottles almost immediately. Luna Chix Pro Team Mechanic Dusty Labarr said, “Stan’s NoTubes Race Sealant is the most important item on my checklist of things to take to every race. It’s essential for a great ride. It doesn’t matter if you are trying to get on the podium at Worlds or are just trying to make it back to the truck before it gets dark. If you have Stan’s Race Sealant in your tires, you’re going to get there.” Timeline: 15 years of Stan’s NoTubes 2016 marks 15 years in business for Stan’s NoTubes. It all started in 2001, when owner Stan Koziatek started selling his soon-to-be-famous sealant and tubeless conversion kits, which became popular among mountain bikers sick of changing flats in their traditional tube-filled tires. Before long, Stan’s NoTubes was also designing tubeless wheels and wheelsets for riders of all disciplines around the world, and the product line now includes tubeless-ready wheels for mountain bikes and road bikes. 13. Cervélo bikes back in SA Earlier this year it was announced that Two Wheels Trading are the new distributors for Cervélo in Southern Africa. It's a premium brand with a heavy focus on engineering and design. Although it's a name which has been quiet in South Africa for nearly a decade, thanks to Team MTN-Qhubeka's rise to stardom it is sure set for a resurgence. One of a kind: currently the only custom Team MTN-Qhubeka Cervelo S5 in South Africa. 2016 Cervelo S5 DA 2016 Cervelo R3 Ultegra Some models have arrived and are already available through certain dealers. View the model line up and dealer listing here: http://twowheelstrading.co.za/products/cervelo/ New Bravo rims and Neo Hubs from Stans Although not on show on the evening, TWT will soon be offering Stan’s NoTubes Bravo carbon wheels. Designed for trail riding and enduro racing, the Bravo rims promise improved stiffness and impact absorption over their aluminium counterparts. Having been tested by the Atherton’s on the World Cup DH circuit, it’s reasonably safe to say that they are suitably tough. The rims measure 32mm externally and 26.6mm internally and use Stan’s familiar Bead Socket Technology to lock tubeless tires in place. With the Bravo, Stan’s also launched new Neo Ultimate and Neo hubs. The Neo hub features a 4 pawl drive system which claims to engage 20% faster than their previous hubs while the 6 pawl version found in the Neo Ultimate is even quicker offering a 5-degree engagement. The Neo hubs also feature larger bearings and better sealing to improve rolling and durability. To help riders deal with the deluge of axle standards, the Neo hubs have interchangeable end caps to allow for different axle sizes on the same hub, including extended caps to make your hub capability with Boost frames and forks. VEE Tire Co Another of the recent additions to the TWT stable is VEE Tire Co. VEE Tire Co. may not yet be a household name when it comes to bike tires, but they've been manufacturing OEM tires for many years. Left to right: VEE Tire Trax Fatty - a low rolling fat bike / "plus" tire, VEE 8 - fast rolling fat tire with additional grip for rocky sections, VEE Tire Rail - fast rolling cross country tire Having initially entered our market with fat bike tires, they've now got a wider range of mountain bike models available along with the Apache road tire which we're currently testing.
