  1. Anyone seen the new Wine Lands Regional permit? Bought one on Tuesday because it's very much worth it and to support the industry. https://winelandstrails.com/ This allows for access to over 700 km of mountain bike trails - Wine Lands Cycling Club - A2Z (Grabouw) - Helderberg trials (Helderberg/Somerset West) - Stellenbosch Trail Fund (Stellenbosch) - MTO Jonkershoek (Stellenbosch - Banhoek Conservancy (Kylemore/Pniel) - Franschhoek trails (Franschoek) - Paarl trails (Paarl) - Wellington Wild boar and Scouts (Wellington) Membership will be valid from 1 December 2021 to 31 December 2022. Adult Board 19 - 64 years - cost of annual membership R1500 Junior Board < 18 years - cost of annual membership R1250 Senior board > 65 years - cost of annual membership R1250 Such a great initiative - apparently it took 3 years to get all the parties around the table and to agree.
  2. Last week I spent a lot of time trying to get information about riding on the Zachariashoek Trails near Franschhoek. I found very little. Over the weekend I ventured out that way and decided not to hit the Matoppie Trail, but rather venture into this lost corner... ...and lost it is, but in a good way. The riding was tough. Tracks are rutted and you can't do the loop anymore because of a major wash away after the fires and the resulting erosion. But, I spotted baboon and Klipsringer up on the top of the plateau. The track I was on disappeared further up the mountain. The views are amazing and with "no service" you feel truly out there... Checkout all the photos here...
  3. I am starting this thread to get some interest going regarding the mountain bike routes around Franschhoek. I have been facilitating a team of trail builders during the past 4 months. Work was mostly focused on clearing and repairing old forestry roads, but some new sections and links have also been built. We will launch the trails by the end of January once they are all marked and mapped, but in the mean time you are welcome to contact me to come and ride the routes as planned. This will also probably be the last chance to ride these mountains for free as a permit system will be necessary in future to ensure the sustainability of the project. Here are links to some GoPro footage taken recently: https://youtu.be/rhmVaZLK1x0 and https://youtu.be/oymc52ViYfo
  4. Crossing the Helshoogte Pass into the incredibly scenic Franschhoek valley, we stopped off at the more-than-300-year-old Boschendal wine farm, to see what the Boschendal team and master trail builder, Bennet Nel have put together. Click here to view the article
  5. Excitement is building for the final weekend of the Tour de France, and riders at the Tour De Franschhoek weekend will be riding then heading to the TDF fan zone in Franschhoek. Click here to view the article
