  1. Arguably our biggest bike project to date --- the new VIPA ULTRA will be hitting the local trails shortly. Following it's debut at the 2018 CAPE EPIC, the new bike has seen 6 months of added refinement ( on top of the 18 months of design and development ) as well as extensive riding and testing in South Africa. Rider feedback and real-world feedback have resulted in various refinements and tweaks to those first bikes debuted in March. The new and final frames are expected next month ( August 2018 ). We will be launching a dedicated website and portal for all things ULTRA.
  2. Hi Guys Please help if possible. Iv'e been looking for a reasonably priced NEW soft tail around the R25k mark, the bikes i've found so far are: Silverback SIDO 3 (R23k) Merida 96 600 (R25k) Specialized camber 29 (R26k) Looking mostly at XC cycling, sani2c etc. Does anyone have any other ideas or recommendations on the above 3 bikes? Thanks!
  3. Hi all, I have 2 bikes, a 2015 Scott Scale 910 and a 2014 Trek Superfly FS 9. Both bikes have full XT group sets are well maintained and in excellent condition. My aim is to sell both bikes and buy a nice new dual suspension bike. I have shortlisted the new Scott Scale or Spesialized... i need some guidance on what the bikes are worth? I have been offered a number on trade in on the one bike but i think I'm getting taken for a ride. Any guidace or advise will be appreciated.
  4. Hi Guys, I currently have a Giant Anthem X1 which I had for about 5 years (with a frame replacement in between) which I am generally still happy with, although the confidence going downhill is worse compared to my old Giant VT-2.What a bike - but got stolen. It is perfect for the Nissan Trailseeker series and most of the trails in and around Pta. I am playing with the idea of a trail/all-mountain/enduro bike for stage racing and when I go to Cape Town and trails with more technical downhill. I think the trail bike will be better and less punishing over 3 days in the saddle. Travel around 140mm, dropper seat and slr/xt (sram equivalents) is about the specs needed - nothing too fancy. It looks like my options if the budget is <30K is basically limited to the Giant Trance 2. (I will be very happy with another Giant and the bike gets good reviews). Any other options in the price range? (I prefer a 27.5 over the 29" which I don't like in terms of looks) Also it looks like a lot of the importers don't bring in the 27.5 trail bikes? I don't see them on websites. (GT Force, Trek Remedy, Scott Genius, Specialized Stumpy FSR etc...)
  5. Hi everyone, Was hoping you could all share some wisdom wrt service costs and intervals on a full-sus bike. I just paid 700bob for a rear linkage service and new bearings - my bike is 10 months old -- Merida 120 and I've only done about 1200km on it - mix of XC and technical trail. My LBS told me that the bearings aren't serviceable and will have to be replaced yearly. This is apparently also true of my BB (shimano octalink). Does that sound right? I thought they would both be serviceable? I take good care of my bike - regular washing/ lubing, I keep as much water away from seals and bearings as possible, it's stored in a shed away from the elements etc etc. I am however 6"3 and 90kg, and ride through very wet JHB summers. Anyway my questions are: 1.Should I be taking the bike in for a service every 6 months to avoid wear, replacing parts? Or should I just aim for a full service every year? 2. Is it true that some rear-linkage bearings and BBs are not serviceable? 3. How often should I bleed brakes and replace gear cables, is it a matter of feel - or is it safer to bleed brakes at regular intervals? 4. How often should I service my fork (air) and shock(air)?
  6. So I was looking at the geometry of my full sus Giant anthem 26er and wondered "if I change the front fork and rear assemblage would a 650b conversion be possible? Anyone know if it'll work?
