  1. It's time to top up my tyre sealant and I'm wondering what the best sealant is for South African conditions? I've read online that Orange Sealant is great (although I've never seen it in SA stores) and apparently Stan's is crap. I've had some success previously with Enduro Seal. What's your experience and what do you use?
  2. I bought the Ryder AirTank 2.0 from Cylce lab for R1200 and it’s fantastic. It can seat MTB tires (if you correctly position) has a realy good valve to press on to the presto and the gauge is great best of all it fast - fewer pumps. My last pump I bought 11 years ago served me well and still works but this is in a different league!
  3. Good Morning. I recently won a set of tubular wheels. I have never ridden on tubulars before and did a lot of research on how to put the tyres on and everything about that. So last week the wheels were ready to ride. I put Continental Gatorskin 25mm tyres on which I thought should be the best puncture resistant. I also put some sealant in the tyre to prevent punctures. I read that people in the UK has gotten 1 000 miles+ on their tubular tyres without any issue. After the ride I fell in love with them and just want to ride the tubby's now. There's just that thought of a puncture in the back of my mind and also the cost involved in replacing such a tyre. My questions are: Is there anybody that can fix a puctured tubby? Who else trains with their tubular wheels? Should I only use the wheels for special occasions?Any views would be great. Thanks.
  4. I've been getting, on average, two flats per ride. And it sucks... Always the back tyre and (this part I can't quite explain yet) almost always going downhill (probably because I'm not going fast enough on flats!). The back wheel is a Bianchi Reparto Corse and there was, what I can only describe as a "bump" each time the area where the white spokes are, hit the ground. I reckoned the wheel needs truing and that it can somehow be linked to the punctures. Wheel somewhat trued, the flats continued. On my last ride, while changing another flat tyre, I noticed that the rim tape seemed to have moved slightly, exposing a sliver of one of the spoke holes. This is, I'm hoping, the cause of the punctures. I want to buy some rim tape to fix it myself. Are there things to look out for, like a set width or brand that is best? Muchas gracias in advance.
  5. Hi guys I did a quick search, but couldn't find anything specific to my problem. I'm a roadie noob. I'm borrowing a road bike for 94.7. I've had four punctures in the last four rides. It's rather irritating. Can any roadie supply some tips/tricks of the trade so that I can actually finish rides? Normally, we mtb'ers have big, chunky, tubeless tyres filled with sealant, so punctures don't actually happen. I do have a puncture repair kit, as well as a spare tube riding along, but trying to wrench these wire-beaded Vredesteins off the rim, trying to find the blasted hole, patching it, and only then re-engage the wrestling match to get the tyre back on, while cars are whizzing past, is not exactly fun. My riding buddy (also actually a mtb'er) tried sealant in his. The sealant came out so fast with the high tyre pressure, that he got coated from shoes to helmet. There is also not enough air in the tube so that the sealant can do its job. This afternoon I'm training on my mtb again...
  6. I've noticed that my tyres seem to be sweating sealant I don't loose pressure it just looks odd, I am sure it's the stans leaking through... Anybody else every experienced this?
