  1. I have a choice of the following wheelsets Mavic aksium elite evo ust Shimano rs500-tl Fulcrum Racing 600What wheelset will you pick, or any other wheelset in the same price. https://bike.shimano.com/en-EU/product/component/ultegra-r8000/WH-RS500-TL-R.html https://www.fulcrumwheels.com/en/wheels/road-bike-wheels/racing-6 https://shop.mavic.com/en-be/aksium-elite-ust-rr1147.html
  2. Hey guys. Has anyone ridden or tested any of the Vittoria MTB wheels, I can't find any reviews online as they are still reasonably new. I'm specifically looking at the Vittoria Reaxion wheelset, but if someone has ridden the creed's or any other models that would also help http://www.vittoria.com/wheel/reaxcion-2/ Comments anyone? Currently have NoTubes Crest on shimano hubs, but not happy with the crests, as fitting tires is an issue, especially if you have problems out on a ride and need to put a tube in.
  3. Hello hubbers, My bike, Scott Genius 750 (2018), has the ability to switch between 27"+ and 29", and now I'm interested to do exactly that. The reason is mainly because my bike has quite a low BB, and I believe 29er will be able to just add a few needed centimeters. I just want to know if it's possible to trade my current 27"+ wheelsets for 29ers? I have the following: Rims: Syncros X-30s, 32 hole, 30mm Hubs: Front - Shimano HB-M6010-B CL, 15x110mm Rear - Shimano FH-M6010 CL, 12x148mm Tires: Maxxis Recon 2.8" I also have a Shimano CS-HG50-10 speed cassette, which I believe is not compatible with Sram XD hubs, but in the future I'd probably want to upgrade to Sram SX/NX and I don't know if XD hubs and Shimano cassetes are compatible for the time being? What can I expect to get for my wheelset aswell? Thanks in advance!
  4. Hey Guys, I have dented my rear Rapidé rim quite badly. Do you think its worth trying to fix it or should I just have it replaced ? Thanks for your help, James
  5. I recently brought the Scott Genius 750 2018 with 27.5 plus tyres. I've been thinking of getting a 29er wheel-set for the bike( even though it fly down the trails with the plus tyres) I was just wondering if someone has tested both wheel-sets on the bike and what the difference feels like. Also if its worth buying a new complete wheelset for the bike? Thanks
  6. I am relatively heavy, 96kg, working towards being sub 90kg. I have had my secondhand Specialized Tarmac with EASTON EA 50 SL wheels for two years now. Last week I was practicing a sprint effort and the chain slipped off the chainring with the associated near tumble and extra forces on the wheelset. Afterwards I saw the rear cassette was sliding left and right while shifting and after inspection the axle was completely broken off. I took the Wheel to Cycle Lab Lynwood on Monday, but they have yet to find a replacement for the axle throughout their entire network of contacts. So I am thinking of taking the broken axle and have our machine shop manufacture one from scratch to at least salvage the rear wheel for training. But now the actual question: I am looking at wheelsets in the classifieds in the sub R5k range, which wheels are some of the more robust options? Taking into account the fact that 2nd hand wheels have already been ridden and their life has probably been shortened. I can get these HUNT wheels NEW and Delivered which are rated at 115kg rider weight and 1579g for the wheelset. https://www.huntbikewheels.com/collections/road-rim-brake-wheels/products/hunt-4season-aero-road-wheelset-1589g-28deep-22wide They cost R5k, if I add R1300 they will fit 25mm tubeless tyres for me, which makes allot of sense. So, 2nd hand wheelset in the classifieds or new Hunt Wheels?
  7. Hi Hubbers I’m new to road biking and recently got told that the only thing I need to upgrade on road bike is the wheels. Carbon wheels 40mm....please I dont understand this mm thing / deep section or carbon clincher stuff. Can anyone point me in the right direction regarding carbon wheels and what difference it will make? Any advice or help will be highly appreciated. Regards
  8. Hi everyone, so carbon wheels has always looked awesome on a road bike to me. Is it worth having? Or do they just look cool. My issue is the braking surface. To switch between carbon and aluminium brake pads when you swap between your training and racing wheels. Or do you always just ride your carbon wheels? I've looked at carbon wheels with an aluminium braking surface like cosmic's. There are second hand ones which I can get, do you think they are worth it? Or should I go full carbon. Another question, is it worth importing Chinese carbon wheels if I don't want to pay 10k+ The main question is, are they a benefit to go faster or not?
  9. Howzit guys, I am seeking advice in regards to a new wheelset. Quick background on my scenario: "So I have a 2014 Scott Scale 940 running the factory Syncros XC39 wheels. A few months ago I noticed play on my cassette. Ignored and continued to ride. Late September I took my bike in to check out the rear hub. The bearings got replaced and the hub is a bit smoother, but there is still play on the cassette and a roughness which can be felt on the chainstay when freeing. Was told to replace the hub with a new one and to rebuild the wheel." My options which I have in mind: 1.) Replace only the rear wheel (because there is nothing wrong with the front wheel - still running perfectly) 2.) Replace the whole wheelset 3.) Replace the hub (Shimano Deore FH-M615) and rebuild the wheel My problem is with the above options is will it be even worth it to invest in a good quality wheelset or rear wheel? Because if I upgrade later on, the next bike will most probably have a TA (through axle) system. While my Scale 940 is only QR front and rear. Yeah, I know I can buy a conversion kit, but still. Would it be worth it to rebuild a new hub on a three-year-old wheelset? The last option would be the most cost-effective option compared to the other two. I am not a serious racer, but I would categorize myself as a serious amateur and I love climbing. I ride about 150km plus each week with 2000 to 3000m of climbing. Now a lighter rear wheel/wheelset would be greatly appreciated. But then again, 90% lies in the legs. I am a student, so I would like to make a wise decision before spending any money because I would not be able to replenish it quickly. My budget is R4000. Thanks. André
  10. Hi Hubbers I've been reading topics for a while and have yet to post something but I think I've come across something that needs your help. I am looking at new hubs for a 2015 Giant Trance 27.5 2. I bought a set of WTB KOM i23 rims and am looking to build a nice trail wheelset. Some info that I think is relevant: Weight: 78kg Riding style: Trail, aggressive XC and marathon I noticed that The Rapidé Ultralight Hubs are incredibly competitively priced and I am quite interested in a set. Obviously Hope/Chris King are tried and trusted but I am quite keen on supporting lical particularly if it is a bargain and good quality. Does anyone have any experience with Rapidé hubs?
  11. Hi Hubbers! Anyone that can give me feedback or their thoughts on these wheelsets for MTB? Cheers
  12. Hi Hubbers, I have recently been looking into a new wheelset. I saw the AM Smoking Gun wheels at CWCycles the first time a couple of months back. Then already I thought they were quite amazing. My question is does anyone have a set? Has anyone ridden a set? How are they? Would it be better to go for the Wide Lightnings which also come at a better price? As I understand it though the wider you go the better the ride gets. According to several reviews they are quite amazing. The next set I but might become my only set so I would like to buy versatile quality wheels. I have also looked at a set of Arch MK3/Hope Pro 4. Had Arches previously and quite liked them. Any advice, reviews and opinions would be greatly appreciated. 13. Although not the first to launch properly wide rims, American Classic's Wide Lightning were the first to offer extra width in a light and strong rim. Billed for anything from XC to Enduro, we put them to test to see for ourselves how they hold up after months of real-life use. Click here to view the article

  15. Hi just wanted advice I want to upgrade my Wheelset currently riding aksium wheels which are not bad as trainers wanted to go for a ksyrium elite or should I rather put in a bit more and go for a campy eurus Wheelset lots of confusing comments on the Google forums makes a person confused at the end.
  16. Hi Guys I recently bought a set of wheels from a guy who advertised them on the HUB. Not being a professional wheel builder I tried to asses the wheels for anything strange on them after I met the seller with the wheels. After some inspection I noticed a small dent on the rear wheel, I made it clear to the seller and he looked me in the eye saying that it has no effect on the wheel or the tubeless ability of it. Taking his word for it (*stupid of me I know*) I bought the wheels and fitted them to my bike, not long into my 1st ride I noticed a bump coming from the back, I then went off the trail and onto some smooth tar road, here the bump was very noticeable. After have the back wheel assessed by two LBS's in my area, It comes down to a bust rear wheel due to a massive flat-spot on it. The seller however refuses to accept that he sold me a busted wheel-set, and refund me or replace the rear wheel. And says I can take him to court if I want my money back. WHAT SHOULD I DO?
  17. Hello everyone So I have finally decided to let go of my deep section tubbies and go back to clinchers. The choice has been made and I am ready to place my order for some great looking carbon wheels. This is the problem I now have. With the wide range of choices available, I cannot seem to make up my mind as to what wheels will look the best with my bike (from China so its only about the looks). I have brought the selections down between the following wheels but now I need the input from my fellow hubbers. * FFWD (not sure if it will be too red) * Easton * Dura Ace C50 * Campy Bora Please note which you think will look the best... I have also added a photo of my bike. Thanks in advance
  18. Hi there, I'm currently in the market for a new wheelset, obvious choice would be a carbon set, but that is way to expensive. My options are: * Roval Alloy * American Classic Wide Lighting * ZTR Crest / Archex / Flowex American Classic Race Hope you guys can help.
  19. Hi everyone Does anyone own the above mentioned wheelset build by EvoBikes? I am in the market for some wheels and heard allot of good things about the Novatec hubs, but don't know how this wheel performs. I buy most of my gear from EvoBikes so recommend most of their products, but don't have any knowledge about these wheels. Any info regarding them would really be appreciated. They also on special at the moment for a really good price so was just wondering. Thanks!
  20. Hi All, How 'bomb-proof' is the Specialized Stout XC Pro 29 wheelset? I'm looking to go from 26" to 29" and I am looking at the 'specialized crave expert 2016'. I have buckled my 26" alex rims in the past and this is the only 'component' that ever failed me. Thus I just want to ensure the wheelset is sturdy enough. Thanks in advance.
  21. Hi All, Looking for some assistance. I ride a Silverback Space 2.0 (Full carbon & Ultegra groupset) On a recent ride, someone rode into the back of me (nothing serious) but the rear stay paint is not chipped & slight damage to the rear wheel as well. I am looking at getting the chips repaired & possibly getting a custom spray job done. At the same time, was looking to get the wheelset refurbished of the scratches etc, to suit the new paint job that the frame may soon have. Any ideas on who does wheelset repair/refurbishment? Is has a set of Mavic Aksiums. Also, is it worth getting this done, or just getting a new set of wheels (that are not too expensive) I am a weekend rider, Sunday mornings riding about 120kms, so nothing major, & my bike is 3 years old? Any thoughs/suggestions will be helpful. Thanks in advance.

  23. Any suggestions where to go for the best deal on a new Wheelset? ZTR 29r Flow EX/Hope Combo with 15mm Front and 142x12 Rear.
  24. So there is a bike on my radar for a good price, but I would like to upgrade the wheels on it to shed some weight. The standard wheelset is about 2.130kg so there's a significant amount to drop. For a budget of about R8000, whats a good upgrade ? In terms of quality and ride quality. Have looked into the below. I know Mavic make good wheels also but cant find much online locally with pricing so any input on them would be appreciated.
