  1. Hi Hubbers! Now that the chill is upon us in Gangsta's Paradise, some (like me) will retreat to their Winter Pain Caves (or local VA). Just before LÉTape I followed one of Hunter Allen's 8 week Sportive training programs and it kept me occupied abd motivated. A few club members have told me about Training Peaks and TrainerRoad. To those who use these (or any other paid service), what do you guys recommend? Also, I only have an Andriod phone, not a tablet!
  2. Hi Hubbers, One of my Endura booties' zip broke and I need to replace them for the winter, wet commuting. Yesterday's commute was not pleasant at all coming home with soaked feet... What are my options? My friend and I will be a placing an order from CRC tomorrow, so I have that option as well, just not sure for which one to go (yes I am aware of the 30% import tax on clothing). Thanks!
  3. Capaia MTB and Running Trails will start opening from 7am as of next week Saturday 24 March, up until the 31 31 August. These will be our winter times - prices stay the same at R40 per day for the tracks If you have any questions or queries please let us know on trails@capaia.co.za or 072 770 9695
  4. I hate: The alarm. It makes me feel nauseous at 4amThe fear for the first 15 minutes that I am underdressedThe hissing sound of pavement irrigation systems that make me think I have a punctureThose same irrigation systems spraying me while I am worrying that I have a punctureMunicipal water leaks across the road that spray up onto shoes and legs and backsideRunners, pedestrians and recycling dudes in dark clothes on my side of the road that loom out of the darkness like cattleMy visible breath as I’m climbing which reminds me that I am not going fast enough to disperse itThe thought that the flashing rear lights on bikes I’m riding behind might cause an epileptic seizureRepair channels cut into the tar across the road which are darker than the other tar making me wonder if they are deep dongas in shadow or new tar. Bunny hop or proceed in faith? The temperature drop while descending into dipsCars that keep their lights on bright while coming towards meStreet lights that for some reason best known to themselves go out just as I get to themSo much snot and tears coming out of me that I worry I might dehydrateThe loss of feeling in hands and feet as they slowly freezeI love: The brotherhood of cyclists up at that time of the morningWatching the sun come up and the mist across the landThe coffee and hot shower after the rideThe warm feeling of blood arriving in my legs as I get to the first climbThe knowledge that I am out on the road while lots of people are trying to train on indoor trainers or spin classesThe friendly runners and other people up and about when everyone else is still in bedThe bubble of solitude that riding in the dark brings. Can’t see my bike computer and can’t see much beyond my front light. Just riding to feel and my thoughts.Reading the early morning newspaper headline posters on the side of the roadKnowing almost down to the degree celcius what layers I need to wearBeing out on my bike

  6. Just an observation I've made, there aren't too many people who cycle early morning or evenings wearing reflective jackets or other items of visibility other than their front and rear lights. Firstly, is there a reason for this? Also, given that the largest part of a cyclist on a bike is the actual cyclist, would it not make sense for the cyclist to be most visible? The reason I ask is I am fairly new to cycling and wanted to understand if items like the two jackets below with LED's are considered taboo? or not practical for some reason? or just not readily available? With Winter fast approaching and most of my cycling to occur during darker periods I am hoping to understand what options are available to me or recommended to ensure I remain safe on the road. Not sure if I'm alone here or if others share the same thoughts or interests in items like the below?
