what if we could force cyclists to ride more responsible?

Cyclists are there own worse enemy!!

There is a cycling lane but no we rather ride in the road next to the cycling lane and then still 2 abreast?

We cannot even show respect to each other. Please correct me if I am wrong but I bet everyone who reads this has entered a "fun ride" only to be pushed by someone who thinks they are racing the Tour de France??

If we adhere to the rules and show some respect for each other and towards the other road users well then just maybe they will return the favour??

Not saying right or wrong, but when last did you see a street sweeping machine cleaning the cycling lane? I was part of the back up crew for today's stage of the Tour De Boland, and just to see how much glass was in the emergency lane and into the road is ridiculous! One guy had to pull out because of a flat he got on the descent over Du Toit's Kloof.

I cycle in the Paarl area lots and the have a cyclist lane (well kinda) - the lane is so full of glass and rubbish that I prefer to ride in the road knowing that I am safer than in the cyclist lane.

+1 SirK - that's one cyclist lane to avoid at all cost! (Unless maybe when on an mtb!)

I'm not adding value here, just another rant - returning from the gym the other evening (yes EVENING - it was freakin dark!) I personally nearly ran over a cyclist.... RIDING WITHOUT LIGHTS! The only reason I saw the idiots - I later saw there was TWO! - was when the crossed traffic and I saw the car in front of mine's rear light disappear!

You can't cure stupidity.

Sorry, I'm sure my mood will improve after another coffee.

The problem for me is, these are the people who bugger into the roads for a couple of weeks once a year - an we who ride all year long, smile-and-wave & stopping-at-red-lights-types like me even, get judged on that.

I'll shut my trap now with that next coffee.
