OK - Right. Lets get a few things straight here....

A witch rides a broom, do you ride a broom or a bike?

If you have it your weigh, how much would you like to way?

What would you like your FRONT FORK to do exactly?

What front FORK do you have at present. Is it AIR adjust, or COIL? Does it have COMPRESSION adjust and REBOUND adjust?

Or are you indeed talking about a SHOCK here, ie: the thing under your seet?

Help us out here, we wait.....with baited breath!

BishopD, Initially I also had a coilspring Suntour shock on my MTB. Changed that for a RockShox Reba I picked up on here and it made a world of difference. Air shocks can be adjusted for rider weight and works a treat. The next item I upgraded was my brakes (cable disk brakes to Juicy 7 hudraulic brakes). These two items will add immensely to your safety and riding experience on the bike. Only after these (staying on the road, and stopping safely) should you worry about wheels / rims and cosmetic stuff.

Just pay attention to the steerer tube length when you buy a second hand air shock. It will be worth your while to measure your current shock. After that pay attention to shock travel etc as you might not want to fit a 140mm dirt jump shock to a frame designed for a 80 - 100mm shock.

Happy researching and cycling!

@BishopD

That helps. Yep. At 90kg you would be better off getting an Air adjustable Fork (Rock Shox - Recon or Revelation) Travel adjustable if you can afford it! This will give you good range if you are riding for fun most of the time.

Pike is also a good Coil Fork, and the spring ride weight usually come set for heavier riders.

Compression on coil shocks is usually only adjustable by changing out the spring (if such is available). The XC Fork springs sold OEM are usually installed to suit 'average' rider weights between 65-80kg.

Hope that helps
