Giant 1/2 wheeler

I have just purchased a Giant 1/2 wheeler (bike trailer) to encourage my youngest to learn how to ride. I installed it on the weekend on my wife's bike but it is very unstable.

 

Anybody out there have experience with this and how to make it more secure so the youngster on the back doesn't feel he is going fall?

scared of falling? get knee/elbow pads. young'un has to fall at least once.
