Upgrading my ride

About eight months ago I bought my first mtb, a Scott Aspect 30, beautiful entry level hardtail. I've done a few social rides and the bike has really impressed.

 

Now my wife decided she also wanted to ride along on a few simple rides but did not want me to break bank on a bike for her so she was happy to get a raleigh y-frame from house & homes.... BIG mistake, those THINGS give mountain bikes a bad name.

 

So I have decided to give her my impressive aspect 30 and get myself an upgraded ride. I've got my eye on the Scott scale 70 2010 model.

 

Anybody know the bike or have one, what's your opinion on the bike?

I'm also in two minds whether or not the time is right to go for an entry level 29er, any thoughts?

there is a good review on a GT Karakoram and Momsen AL300 in this months Ride magazine. Both are entry level 29ers and at a good price.
