Hey guys , I'm brand new to the hub. Looking to get a mtb for my son 13 years old , new to cycling , so don't want to go overboard . Saw a Silverback stride , new , in Morningside shop for R 2,000.00 , kind of max I would like to spend ,and was told it would be right for him. Anybody got some feedback for me. Thanks.

Nothing wrong with the SB Stride if your son wants to commute between school and home, but if he wants to join his buddies doing some xc or mountain biking, or the occasional race, that Strides going to slow him down. That thing must weigh a ton. Establish your son's application, and base your purchase on the outcome. R2000 does not buy a lot of bike , and some people spend that on handlebars, so if you can reach a bit deeper in those pockets, rather invest in a proper entry level bike such as a Merida Matts for around R4K. Keep some cash left for kit, cause he will also need a helmet (R250 - R500), proper shoes (starting at R500), gloves (R75 - R150), and cycling clothing. Good luck with your purchase!

First bike? 13 Year old? Go second hand. For R2k, in this here classifieds you can get a decent entry bike.
