Gear Ratios

Compact gearing imo is not required/suitable/ideal for SA conditions. Rather stick with a 53/39 or 52/42 and suitable cluster according to your ability and pedaling style.

 

I used to ride a 53/39 - 11/23 in SA, since moving to the hillspastthecloudszone have been riding with a compact 50/34 for the last 4 or so years.

 

For the first time in 4 years rode the 94.7 in a "not so ideal condition" (i.e fat and unfit) with a 53/39 - 12/?? 8 spd cluster and was initialy worried about the change from compact to normal gearing....

 

To be honest i did not really miss the compact gear ratios, the terrain does not justify compact gearing.

Although it would have been nice to have a 10spd option instead of the 8 spd...
