No power!!!

stretching does something... it weakens your muscles. So no stretching before a race/training!

Almost. You have to know what to stretch and when to stretch it for it to be usefull.

i find Warmup oil helps keep your legs in race mode while you have to wait in the start pens .... that combined with a 5-10min spin / equipment check before the start seems to do the trick for me.

You could always ask the group to slow down while you're still warming up. :D

Cyclists are very understanding.

Hahaha!

Yeah, do a lil' warm up - it will go a long way to a better start.

A warm up ride before the race will help but its not the only answer, rather do interval training at least once a week, that will prepare you for a fast start and when the bunch decides to speed up"

Interval training...What is this?

Ride for 10.

Stop for 10.

Ride for 10.

Stop for 10.

Nah, actually, interval training is to vary your intensity on a training ride.

E.g. cruise at 25 km/h from one street light to the 3rd one.

Then go at 33 km/j for the next street lights.

Then recover. And so forth.

Interval training makes you cry if you do it right.

And makes you smile when you race as you will be more likely to keep up with the pace.

Its better to warm up and then at the last minute jump in, even if its at the back, you'll get to the front easily enough...
